Stop light at local intersection could go away
A traffic light in Springfield could be removed, and getting rid of it could save the city over $300,000.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:30, city officials are making plans for the intersection of Lagonda Avenue and Sherman Avenue.

'We have the option to replace it because it's aging and traffic signals right now are running about $330,000, or study it and see if it can be removed,' Chris Moore, Service Director with the City of Springfield, said.
City officials say 300 cars need to drive through the intersection every hour to meet the requirement for a traffic light.
The city has also placed signs at the intersection saying, 'signal under study for removal.' They have also set the traffic lights to flash at the intersection, to let drivers know it could look different very soon.
'Once that flashing period is over, the signals will then be bagged and covered up and stop signs will be put up on Sherman Avenue, and we will then continue to monitor to see how folks navigate,' Moore said.
Moore says this intersection does not have enough traffic to need a light. He says his department is looking to use their resources more effectively.
'We also look at older signals. Just because it's always been there doesn't mean it needs to,' Moore said.
Since putting up the signs on Monday, the city has gotten feedback from the community, and they say they want the light gone.

Two people hospitalized after car crash in Oswego County
HANNIBAL, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Two people with serious injuries are being treated at Upstate Hospital after a car crash in Oswego County on Wednesday night. At 4:41 p.m. on June 4, the Oswego County Sheriff's Office was called to a two-car crash at the corner of State Route 104 and 66 Road in the Town of Hannibal. Hall Co. escaped inmate steals motorcycle, leads deputies on multi-state chase, officials say
An inmate on work release is back in custody after deputies said he led them on a multi-state chase. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] On Monday, Stephens County deputies tried to stop a black motorcycle. The sheriff's office said they were notified that the driver, later identified as 39-year-old Daniel Jesse Bell of Braselton, was an escaped inmate from Hall County. The SCSO said Bell cut off his ankle monitor before leaving the area earlier Monday afternoon and the motorcycle was also possibly stolen from Hall County. Deputies said they spotted the motorcycle traveling on Highway 123. When they tried to stop Bell, he sped away. Stephens County deputies chased Bell into South Carolina, where Oconee County, S.C. deputies took over. Oconee deputies then took Bell into custody. Due to his burn injuries, Bell was taken to a burn center for treatment, where he remains in custody. 3 teens charged with dozens of auto entry felonies, Troup County authorities say
The Troup County Sheriff's Office said they arrested three teenagers Monday in connection with dozens of crimes. Authorities said the teens got into people's vehicles, many of which had been left unlocked, taking items. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The three teens, two aged 14 and one aged 15, were charged with 52 felonies in all in connection with the 36 auto entering cases. The youths' charges include theft, entering auto and firearms violations. Troup County Sheriff's Office said the crimes began in March and continued through Sunday.
