Elisabeth Moss 'closed' Handmaid's Tale set to film emotional final scene
Elisabeth Moss "closed the set" for the final scene of 'The Handmaid's Tale'.
The 42-year-old actress - who has won two Emmy Awards for her portrayal of June Osborne - has opened up on the emotional closing moments of the show's sixth and final season, and how she wanted to protect herself as an actress and director as her character returned to the Waterford house.
She told The Hollywood Reporter: "I did close the set. Not to keep it secret, but mostly because I needed the set to be a very quiet space that day.
"When you're shooting the final scene of a show, it tends to attract some attention. So it was actually me as a director protecting my actor, who is me.
"I needed to be able to do my job that day, which was a very difficult job of ending a series as an actor and pulling off that final moment. So I closed the set for that reason."
While the scene was the final one in the show, it wasn't the last to be actually shot.
While Elisabeth could be the only director to film themselves as an actor in the last scene of a long running show in that way, she pointed to the help she had from the cast and crew as a whole.
She said: "That would be a fun fact to find out. But this cast, this crew has made me a better director. They made me a better actor. They made me a better producer.
"That post team made me better at what I do because of them. Every time I've been talking with [season six showrunners] Eric Tuchman and Yahlin Chang I tell them how I miss collaborating with them."
She insisted the door could even be open to work together more in the future, although it's unlikely given the way they ended the series.
She added: "I don't see why we couldn't at some point come back and do something.
"What's so great about the landscape now is that we could do something in a few years if we wanted to.
"There's nothing saying we can't. There are no rules anymore. But I do think where we end it is right. They did a brilliant job of wrapping it up."

Elisabeth told Billboard: "I've been wanting to use a Taylor song for many years on the show and we finally found the perfect spot for a track from her, and I'm so glad we waited because there could not be a more perfect song for a more perfect moment. "Taylor has been such an inspiration to me personally. As a Swiftie myself, and I think I can speak for [co-star] Yvonne [Strahovski] and our entire cast as well, who are all Swifties, it's such an honor to be able to use her music in the final episodes of our show." The Handmaid's Tale editor Wendy Hallam Martin added to the publication:"In trying many songs for this specific moment in our series and knowing how much Lizzie [Moss] wanted a strong female voice and message, Taylor was really the artist that delivered both lyrically and tonally. "Our badass main character June in this scene, really was saying 'Look what you made me do' and the song couldn't have been more on point. "A perfect pairing. When I laid the song up against the scene, it just landed perfectly thematically, rhythmically and magically hit all the edit points which sometimes happens if it's meant to be. I shared it with Lizzie and we both knew immediately that this was the one!"

‘We've got a pretty good story': John Wick director Chad Stahelski teases Chapter 5
Chad Stahelski has a "pretty good story" for John Wick: Chapter 5. After the titular hitman's apparent death in 2023's John Wick: Chapter 4, Lionsgate has greenlit a fifth outing for Keanu Reeves' assassin, and Stahelski, 56, has teased the script he and scribe Mike Finch wrote is coming along nicely - though will only go ahead with the movie if they "crack" the story. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about continuing John Wick's story after his supposed end in Chapter 4, the filmmaker said: "I'm not going to lie to you, it's a bit of a conundrum. Me and Mike Finch — the writer on 4 who's also writing 5 — we've got a pretty good story that I think is cool. Once we have a 50-page book, and if we're feeling it, we'll sit with Keanu and shape this thing. "Look, everybody seems to want it. It's a matter of whether we crack it. We're actively working on it. It's just … is it going to be satisfying?" Stahelski added that while Lionsgate wants John Wick: Chapter 5, the sequel isn't locked in just yet. He explained: "The studio would very much will it into existence, I'm sure, at some point. Look, they've been great and they've asked us to really try and we have a really good couple of ideas and we're going to try." The filmmaker added that even if John Wick: Chapter 5 ultimately doesn't come to fruition, he and his creative team will likely discover plenty of other ideas that could be reworked for a spin-off in the process of developing the movie, such as the Ana de Armas-starring Ballerina. Stahelski said: "If we go down the road of John Wick 5 and build this story and decide this isn't right, there are probably going to be 10 other things we'll discover that we'll use for other things. "It's a great creative exercise. It's being in the room riffing with people we love. That's nothing but wins." Ballerina - which also stars Norman Reedus, Ian McShane, Lorenza Izzo, Anjelica Huston and the late Lance Reddick - follows Eve Maccaro, a deadly assassin who seeks vengeance for her family's murder and unleashes her fury against those who wronged her. The film is also set to include John Wick as an adversary of Macarro's, though Stahelski revealed this wasn't always in the plan, and he was initially "kind of against" bringing in Reeves' assassin. He explained: "That wasn't in the original script. To be honest, I was kind of against it. But I do see the benefit and we wanted to help out [director Len Wiseman]. "We had just opened John Wick 4 and it was huge. He couldn't go back to the model of the first John Wick and do a little $18 million indie thing and try to build it up. "In order to stay in the same game, you got to give him a fighting chance. And the easiest way to transfer that over — at least, from the studio point of view — was have Wick in Ballerina in a special timeline."

Kristen Bell refuses to work outside Los Angeles because she "can't physically operate in the world" if she is unable to spend time with her family. The 44-year-old actress is mother to two daughters - Lincoln, 12, and Delta, 10 - with her husband Dax Shepard and Kristen has revealed she won't take on any acting project that will require her to leave town because she needs to be able to see her partner and her kids every day. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she explained: "I can't physically operate in the world if I don't have some part of the morning or evening with my family. I am so rooted in that life, and I can explain it best by saying, I like being an actress, but I love being Kristen. "And if I had to choose between the two, I would quit this career in a heartbeat." Kristen explained she made the decision after Lincoln was born and she's stuck to LA-based projects ever since. She added: "About 12 years ago, because my oldest is 12, I was like: 'What if I just tried to see if I had leverage to be like, I'm not going to shoot outside of L.A. anymore?' "No matter how good the director is or how good the script is, I won't do it. I wouldn't care enough. I'm not trying to do the Revenant 2 in wherever they shot that. I don't need to do that. It wouldn't fulfill me. "So, I said: 'Don't even send me anything if it's not shooting in L.A. or if it's not early enough in the development that I can say: 'We have to shoot in L.A.' and I've been really, really lucky. "But that does bleed in a little to the, when I get there in the morning, I will absolutely compartmentalize and shut that off and I'm never trying to bring baggage to set unless it's happy, playful, fun stuff that would excite us. "But then, at the end of the day, I'm not really here for: 'Let's do a couple [takes] more just for us'. If we've got it, I need to go home and reconnect with my family because otherwise I can't come in tomorrow."
