The Centre, Livingston has unveiled plans to host a spring and summer fashion event this Saturday with local stylist Leigh Maybury, to raise funds for its charity partner, Breast Friends and Family. It follows on from the success of the previous events at the shopping centre hosted by Leigh, who qualified at the London College of Style and trained in the art of colour and is also the founder of 'Life with Style' consultancy. On the day of the 'Seasonal Style-Up' event shoppers will be able to get an express colour analysis, which was popular in the 80's thanks to the bestselling book, 'Color Me Beautiful' by Carole Jackson, and find out which colours can help enhance their natural features and personal style. There will also be the opportunity to get tips on how to refresh your wardrobe and insights into some of the hottest trends which includes everything from plaid jumpsuits and tuille skirts to boho fringing and ruffles in shades of reds, pink, oranges and bright yellow. Six lucky shoppers will also be in with a chance of being presented with a £25 Gift Card, courtesy of The Centre, Livingston to treat themselves. The aim of the event is to give people the confidence to step out of their comfort zone and try out a new, fresh look which makes them feel great and also to help them create a capsule wardrobe with key pieces that are versatile and adaptable, weaving in some of their existing wardrobe favourites. All style consultations and a live 'Q&A with Leigh' is free to attend. To help raise funds for Breast Friends and Family, which supports patients through a breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery, one-to-one, express colour analysis sessions, will cost £10 per person, with all funds going the charity. West Lothian Film Festival announces partnership with breast cancer support charity based in Bathgate
Breast Friends and Family emerged as the winner from 30 nominated organisations West Lothian Film Festival has confirmed that its first official charity partner is Breast Friends and Family. The announcement follows more than five months of public voting and 2,164 individual ballots cast, and the partnership will run for the next three years. Nominations opened in October last year and the public were invited to nominate and vote via social media for local causes they felt deserved recognition and support. There were 30 organisations in the running, with Breast Friends and Family emerging as the winner after securing more than 700 public votes. Breast Friends and Family aims to support patients through a breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Based on Glasgow Road in Bathgate they provide practical, emotional, and peer support for breast cancer patients across West Lothian. From its office, affectionately known as The Heart, the charity distributes treatment support bags, runs wellbeing sessions, and offers a vital sense of solidarity to those facing diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. West Lothian Film Festival has attracted 306 films — an unprecedented increase from last year's 82 submissions. All submissions are currently in the hands of the 20 strong volunteer judging panel. Festival Director Christopher McPhillips said: 'Every nominated charity had something meaningful to offer West Lothian, and we're grateful to have celebrated them all over the past five months. With 747 votes, Breast Friends and Family clearly resonated with our community, representing compassion, strength, and unity. 'The people of West Lothian chose them as their charity of choice, and we're proud to use our platform to support and celebrate the incredible work they do. While it's been an honour to spotlight 30 brilliant organisations, we're equally proud to now walk alongside Breast Friends and Family as our official partner for the next three years.' As part of the three-year charity partnership, the festival has committed to: full marketing and promotional support, volunteer days from the festival team, and a dedicated Breast Friends and Family showcase day at each edition of the festival from 2026 to 2028. Hazel Orr of Breast Friends and Family said: 'We were delighted to be nominated. The 30 nominated charities are all worthy charities and community groups, so we knew we faced some strong competition. 'On first meeting Christopher, we realised that this could be a fantastic opportunity for Breast Friends and Family, with so many ways he could help promote our charity through the film festival as well as his business associates and connections. It made us think about how we connect with our followers through social media, through our own Facebook and Instagram platforms and how we could encourage our followers to like, vote and share posts. 'We grabbed the opportunity offered by the film festival and Condor Entertainment, to go along on one of their media days, to record an interview about how the charity came about and what it provides. "We loved sharing the finished result. And, we took advantage of the leaflets and posters provided by Artos Digital and Clear Colour, not just taking them to our events but sharing with work colleagues, neighbours, family and friends, at every opportunity. YouTuber reveals favourite 'chippy' after UK tour
A YouTuber who has spent 15 months travelling across the UK to sample 120 fish and chip shops has told how his favourite turned out to be in a town just a short hop from Peel said he began his delicious mission - named The Chippy Tour - to "support and promote the traditional fish and chip".But after scouring the length and breadth of the country he decided - after a third visit - that his absolute number one was Green Lane Chippy in Leigh, Greater Manchester. Proprietor Paul Georgiou, who runs the shop with his brother Andy, said it was a "great honour" to be praised by Mr Peel, who has amassed thousands of online followers. Mr Georgiou said his shop had been around for "well over 100 years". "There's customers in there who are 80, 90 years old who have been coming in since they were kids," he said. "We do take a lot of care, we're very fussy in our products. We've got great staff and fantastic customers." Mr Peel, of Warrington, Cheshire, who posts his reviews on Youtube, said he got the idea after becoming concerned by the decline of traditional fish and chip shops due to spiralling costs and competition. He said he visits each shop incognito to ensure he gets the same service as anyone else, before filming his reviews somewhere nearby and rating each establishment out of five. "The idea is to show fish and chips at different chippies, how they do it, their love for the meal," he told BBC Radio Manchester. "When you actually get to start meeting the people, they really want to be the best. They have their own ideas about things like the batter and their cooking mediums."It's family-run usually, through generations sometimes. There's so much more that goes into these businesses." Mr Peel said he often ensures he also tries any other speciality dishes he spots on the menu. "If they do their own pies or do their own things like deep fired Mars bars, I'm on it," he said. Denni-Leigh Shanks' two-year-old daughter Dakota was born with a rare condition which saw her bladder develop on the outside of her body. After a year on a waiting list, Dakota is now set to have the vital surgery in Manchester on June 23 - a procedure which could see her need to stay in hospital for up to eight weeks - but Denni-Leigh has been forced to reach out for help to pay her own accommodation costs. The Livingston mum said launching a GoFundMe page was 'the last thing' she thought she would do, but that she needs to 'scramble' funds together in just a few weeks to secure accommodation down south. 'We need to travel to Manchester a week before her operation for daily pre-op appointments and I'll need to cover hotels, food, fuel - everything to get up and down there. We have to fund everything until Dakota is admitted to hospital. 'But the main thing is that Dakota has a safe place to stay for that first week. Everything I do, I do for Dakota. So, if for any reason I can't get into the Ronald McDonald accommodation and I don't have the funds to stay anywhere else then I'll probably just sleep in the car if I have to.' But unexpected costs including having to buy a new washing machine meant she had to use up some of her savings. And the family was also dealt a heartbreaking blow just a few weeks ago when Dakota's dad Kris Braithwaite, who was helping Denni-Leigh with travel and hotel costs, died suddenly. Denni-Leigh said: 'Kris was always there for his daughter and he would have helped in any way he could. 'Dakota is really struggling with it. She's only two so she doesn't really understand, but she makes a lot of comments about wanting her daddy back and makes a lot of comments about being sad and has struggled with her sleep since it happened.'
