Moses Itauma 'finalising a deal to fight top British heavyweight' with date and venue provisionally agreed
Moses Itauma looks close to securing the biggest fight of his professional career — with a clash against a top British heavyweight now said to be in advanced talks.
The 20-year-old is unbeaten in 12 professional bouts and is widely viewed as one of the most exciting prospects in world boxing.
Known for his explosive power and composed style, Itauma has dispatched 10 of his opponents by knockout and has barely put a foot wrong since turning professional.
Now, he appears poised for a major step up, with negotiations said to be progressing well for a summer showdown that would put him under the brightest lights of his young career.
According to Ring Magazine's senior insider Mike Coppinger, Itauma is in the process of finalising a deal to fight Dillian Whyte.
The date and venue have reportedly already been decided too, with the event provisionally scheduled for August 16 in Riyadh.
The bout is expected to headline a Riyadh Season show being staged alongside the Esports World Cup, which runs in the Saudi capital through July and August.
Reports suggest the undercard could feature WBA featherweight champion Nick Ball facing Sam Goodman, with Anthony Cacace also in line to meet Raymond Ford at junior lightweight.
Whyte, 37, is a former WBC interim title holder who has shared the ring with some of the biggest names in the division — including Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker.
He returned to action in December with a win over Ebenezer Tetteh, having been cleared after a previous drug test result was ruled unreliable.
Should the deal be completed, the fight would represent a huge opportunity for Itauma to accelerate his rise through the heavyweight ranks — and a chance for Whyte to reassert his credentials on the world stage.
