The Los Angeles Lakers pulled off one of the most unexpected blockbuster trades in recent NBA memory, landing Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Davis.

A new report suggests the Lakers could top that with an even bigger trade, naming the Mavericks as a potential destination if LeBron James hits the trade block.
James chose to opt in to the final year of his contract for the Lakers for $52.6 million, but The Athletic's Sam Amick reported that there are growing rumors among front offices that the move could be a precursor to a trade.
"The speculation was rampant all around the league when news of James' decision broke, with rival executives wondering if this was a precursor to a trade request (James, remember, has a no-trade clause and could thus control any such move)," Amick wrote.
Amick added that there are differing opinions, with some believing that James is just pushing the Lakers to build a title-contendeing team for what could be his final NBA season.

"Or, of course, it could be yet another attempt to apply pressure to the front office to find a way to add impactful talent," Amick wrote. "Either way, it's becoming increasingly clear that — even if James doesn't retire next summer — this could be his last season in a Lakers uniform."
Lakers reporter Jovan Buha suggested that the Mavericks could be a destination for James if he indeed hits the trade block.
"If LeBron asks out, keep an eye on Dallas," Buha noted.
While it could come as a surprise for the Lakers to send another star to Dallas, The Athletic's Amick suggested the Lakers are primarily concerned with the long-term future and finding a new co-star for Doncic.

The projected transaction is likely due to the Blazers having second-year center Donovan Clingan and eight-year center Robert Williams under contract. Across his seven-year career, Ayton averaged 16.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks per game on a 59% field goal percentage. He has been much maligned throughout his NBA tenure for his motor and underperformance as a former top selection from the 2018 NBA Draft. With the squad reportedly letting Kevon Looney test free agency, they will only have second-year center Quentin Post as its lone big man after exercising his franchise tender. Ayton's upside in the Warriors' motion offense is immense. He'll have more room to operate inside with Steph Curry on the floor along with easier rim opportunities around the basket with Green feeding him entry passes and high-low lob touches. The defensive and motor issues are a concern and will require Golden State to work through them during Ayton's highs and lows. From a maximization standpoint though, it may be the veteran big man's best situation to have an impactful contract year.

Philadelphia getting WNBA team as part of 3-team expansion by 2030: "The W's coming"
The WNBA is finally coming to Philadelphia as part of a three-city expansion by 2030, Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and the 76ers announced Monday. The Philly team, owned by Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, which also owns the Sixers, and Comcast Spectacor, will begin play in 2030. The announcement comes months after HBSE and Comcast announced a new shared arena with the Sixers and the Flyers set to open in 2031. "Philadelphia, the W's coming. Let's go, this is awesome," Harris said Monday. "To the city of Philly, this is your team. Philadelphia is a city about sports, and basketball in particular, including generations of extraordinary women's basketball talent, athletes who have shaped the game and inspired countless others." "For me and the community, bringing the WNBA to Philly wasn't just nice to have. It was an obligation." Harris said the WNBA team will give girls in the Philadelphia region a team to root for and be inspired by. "Sports have changed my life, and I've seen them change so many other lives," Harris said. "I have two daughters, one of whom is in the audience, and I believe deeply in the power of sports to inspire, uplift and teach. Lessons that carry far beyond athletics. Now, millions of girls will have the same opportunity." Engelbert, who is from Collingswood, New Jersey, cited the growing popularity of women's basketball and the WNBA beyond the latest expansion. The three new teams all have NBA ownership groups, and each paid a $250 million expansion fee. Engelbert, whose father, Kurt, played basketball at St. Joseph's University and is in the Big 5 Hall of Fame, also said the HBSE's long-term commitment to making a WNBA team work in Philadelphia was a key factor. "On behalf of the entire WNBA, I'm thrilled to welcome Cleveland and Detroit back and Philadelphia officially to the WNBA," Engelbert said. "These are proud cities with powerful sports legacies, each one rich in basketball tradition and fueled by passionate fan bases. We know they're going to show up for the W. Now, they join the most elite women's sports league in the world. It's far more than an expansion of our league. It's an evolution of it." Last year, while the Sixers were pushing to build a new arena in Center City, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker joined the call for the city to get a WNBA team. Parker said she believes the Sixers getting a new arena would help draw the league to Philadelphia. "We don't have a WNBA team here in the city of Philadelphia," Parker said in September 2024. "Do any of y'all ever notice that? Y'all know y'all mayor don't like that." In January, the Sixers' plans to build 76 Place at Market East were scrapped when the team and Comcast Spectacor announced plans for a new stadium in South Philadelphia. During the press conference announcing the shared arena in January, Emmy-winning comedian and actress Wanda Sykes also joined the fray to declare that now is the time to bring the WNBA to Philadelphia. A certain type of employee stands out from their peers, says Klutch Sports founder and CEO Rich Paul: someone who believes there's no limit to what they can do. Employees who are open to trying new projects at work — or who always raise their hand for opportunities, even if they've never done them before — are more likely to be noticed and rewarded by bosses, says Paul, who gained public recognition as NBA superstar LeBron James' agent and founded his sports agency in 2012. That's especially true for early career professionals and recent grads, Paul tells CNBC Make It. "Try to learn as much as you possibly can and have as much range as you possibly can," says Paul, who also hosts a class on MasterClass called "The Dealmaker's Mindset" that released on June 9th. "There's so much to do. You should never be [bored at] work."Paul learned this lesson firsthand, he added. Before becoming a sports agent, the Cleveland-native hustled to make ends meet. As a kid, he made money playing dice in the neighborhood. He worked at his dad's convenience store, where he learned about entrepreneurship, and built a local clothes-ironing business, he told "The Tim Ferriss Show" in October 2023. At age 21, Paul was running a jersey resale business — sometimes selling out of the trunk of his car — when he met James at an airport and struck up a friendship, he told The New York Times in October 2023. He worked as James' unofficial assistant for about five years before landing a role at Creative Artists Agency, one of the world's most well-known talent agency businesses, working under James' then-agent Leon Rose. After about four years at Creative Artists Agency, Paul founded Klutch Sports Group in 2012. His company now represents athletes including James, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and Las Vegas Aces center A'ja Wilson. "I didn't get here because I wanted to be a sports agent. Actually, that was the furthest thing from my mind," says Paul. "But I got here [by] not being complacent and understanding that I have no limitations in terms of my capabilities, and I can start in any role that I'm being asked to play." You can show your ambition at work by simply telling your boss that you're interested taking on new, challenging or exciting projects, says Jenny Wood, a bestselling author and former Google executive. "Agreeing to take notes for every team meeting or showing up early to help decorate for an office party," may not get you the promotion or raise you're looking for, Wood said in December. But "raising your hand to increase a given metric by 20% or volunteering to help drive a reorg and present it to leadership" can make you more successful, she said. If want to do a job you've never done before, you can tell your boss about your curiosity and eagerness to learn. Executives from Bill Gates to Mark Cuban say inquisitiveness is crucial to success, especially in the age of AI.
