CBI arrests Mumbai resident in Operation Chakra-V, conducts multi-state raids in 10 locations
New Delhi [India] June 13 (ANI): In a crackdown on cyber financial crimes, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted multi-state searches under Operation Chakra-V, targeting cyber-enabled financial crimes.
The CBI carried out extensive searches at 10 locations across Delhi, Hisar, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik in connection with a cyber-enabled organised investment fraud case.
The CBI has also arrested one accused, a resident of Kalyan, Mumbai, after his involvement surfaced in the fraud. The accused was actively involved in supplying pre-activated SIM cards and mule bank accounts to cybercriminal networks, thereby enabling and sustaining their illegal operations. Substantial incriminating material was recovered from his possession during the searches.
The case pertains to a well-orchestrated fraud where unsuspecting individuals were cheated through a fraudulent mobile application and WhatsApp groups. The perpetrators deceitfully lured innocent investors by promising shares of reputed listed companies at discounted rates. Once the victims invested their hard-earned money, the accused misappropriated the funds, causing significant financial loss to the public.
During the coordinated searches, the CBI seized incriminating digital and documentary evidence from the premises of the accused persons, exposing the intricate modus operandi employed to dupe innocent investors.
Operation Chakra-V underscores the CBI's unwavering commitment to dismantling cybercrime syndicates and infrastructure supporting the commission of such offences. Investigation is continuing. (ANI)

CBI books Supertech, its officials for Rs 126 crore fraud with IDBI Bank
New Delhi: In a matter related to alleged builder fraud, the CBI has registered an FIR against Supertech Limited and its officials for cheating and forgery, which resulted in a loss of Rs 126 crore to IDBI Bank. The Bank Securities and Fraud Branch of the federal agency registered the FIR on the complaint of Hari Kumar Meena, DGM, IDBI Bank, NPA Management Group, New Delhi. In his complaint, Meena alleged offences of criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, using forged documents as genuine, criminal breach of trust and criminal misconduct by the accused directors of Supertech Limited, which has an office in Sector 96 in Noida. The CBI registered the case, taking note of alleged conspiracy among directors of the company and with unknown public servants, whereby IDBI Bank was cheated to the tune of Rs 126.07 crore after it gave a loan of Rs 200 crore to the real estate firm. Apart from the company, which has been named as one of the 10 accused, the CBI has also booked directors and other officials of Supertech in the case. Those named in the FIR include Ram Kishor Arora, Sangita Arora, Mohit Arora, Anil Kumar Sharma, Vikas Kansal, Pradeep Kumar Goel, Anil Kumar Jain and Parul Arora. The bank's complaint to the CBI said that Supertech and its officials perpetrated a fraud through acts of misappropriation; fraudulent encashment through forged instruments, manipulation of books of account or fictitious accounts and conversion of property and cheating and forgery (forged balance sheet). The bank, under a consortium banking arrangement with Union Bank of India, had sanctioned a term loan of Rs 200 crore to the real estate company in 2014. Meena said in his complaint that the loan was to be paid in 11 equal quarterly instalments starting March 2017, but the company failed to do so, resulting in a principal outstanding of Rs 126.07 crore towards IDBI Bank. In April, the Supreme Court had ordered a CBI investigation into the nexus between Supertech and eight banks over not completing projects on time and forcing people to pay EMIs. The apex court had come down heavily on developers and banks for forming an 'unholy nexus' in order to deceive homebuyers.

CBI arrests 2 men in Mumbai who defrauded NEET UG 2025 aspirants; ‘Sought Rs 90 lakh from each candidate'
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday said that it has recently arrested two individuals who were allegedly involved in defrauding aspiring NEET candidates by falsely promising to manipulate their NEET UG 2025 scores in exchange for money. The two accused — Sandeep Shah, a resident of Solapur, and Salim Patel, a resident of Navi Mumbai — were arrested in Mumbai and Sangli on June 9 and 10, respectively. The central agency said that it registered a cheating case on June 9 after discovering that two individuals were involved in duping NEET candidates and their parents by falsely claiming to have connections with officials of the National Testing Agency (NTA) that conducts the examination. 'They assured the victims that they could manipulate the marks of low-scoring candidates in NEET UG 2025 in return for hefty payments,' the CBI stated. To ensure that they are indeed influential people connected with highly placed officials, they would meet gullible parents at five-star hotels like ITC Grand Central, Parel, Mumbai. The accused Shah demanded Rs 90 lakh from each candidate and eventually agreed to accept Rs 87.5 lakh per candidate after negotiations, the probe agency stated. Shah would assure candidates that they would receive details of their purportedly increased marks six hours before the official declaration of results. The accused was in regular contact with the co-accused, who operates an admission consultancy firm in Navi Mumbai, and another individual, who runs a similar consultancy in Pune. A forensic examination of the mobile phones of the arrested individuals (Shah and Patel) revealed incriminating chats containing details of prospective candidates, their roll numbers, admit cards, OMR sheets, and evidence of financial transactions through hawala networks, a CBI officer said. The CBI produced the two accused in court and secured their custody till June 16. The agency did not find any involvement of government officials or NTA personnel in the racket. The CBI is in the process of identifying the victim aspirants and their parents by analysing the phone call details of the accused, and is also analysing financial transactions done by the accused to defraud students and their parents.
