New direct train links European capital with 3 destinations for first time
Looking to embark on a train travel adventure next winter? (Picture: Travelski Night Express)
The ski season might now firmly be over for another year – but if you're already dreaming of hitting the slopes (or enjoying a bit of Après afterwards), a new night train is set to make that easier than ever.
Forget flying: if you're looking to soak up the snow in the French Alps, the Travelski Night Express will now link Paris directly to Moutiers, Aime or Bourg-Saint-Maurice.
Departing from the City of Love on Friday evening, the service will arrive on Saturday morning – and take around 8 hours.
From there, keen skiiers will be able to board their transfer to eight popular ski destinations, including Courchevel, Les Arcs, La Plagne, Tignes, Méribel, Val d'Isère, Val Thorens and Les Ménuires – all French Alps destinations which, together, make it one of the world's largest winter sports choices.
Intrigued? The service will kickstart on December 19, 2025 – just in time for Christmas and New Year's skiing trips – and run through to March 20, 2026, according to Paris Secret.
On board, there'll be 660 new couchettes (or simply, bunks) for passengers to have a little snooze on board.

And as you sleep, you'll be inching closer and closer to that fresh powder – and perhaps even a post-ski beer, a chocolat chaud or some fondue.
There'll be a bar car and restaurant on board the service, run by Pegasus Trains, in case you get a pang for a midnight snack situation.
And to take the stress away from the experience, the company will be offering all-inclusive packages including travel, transfers, and accommodation, as well as ski passes and ski equipment. You'll be able to get back on the slopes in no time – and if in doubt, snow plough it out.
The service is set to revolutionise night train travel across the region. At the moment, there's no direct train to Aime-la-Plagne – instead, snow sports aficionados need to take a train from Paris to Chambéry Challes-les-Eaux, and then change again.
As for Moutiers and Bourg-St-Maurice, skiers also currently need to switch trains at Chambéry Challes-les-Eaux – making for a more challenging journey than the brand-new Travelski Night Express.
It's no secret that skiers have long been relishing the joy of the French Alps. Over on Reddit, @One-Sundae-2711 learned to ski at Les Arcs when they were little – and 'loved every second of it.'
'The Alps…the majesty of it,' they added, while @darrellsilver described it as 'so stunning you almost can't recall any other way of skiing.'
As for Méribel, @ilovepeople082 thought the slopes were 'amazing' and 'perfect for all levels.'
'The entire Trois Vallées area has such an amount of runs that it would be impossible to ski every single run in a lifetime, and you can go and never ski the same run twice.'
Elsewhere in the world of new train connections, a completely game-changing tube-style train could revolutionise European travel across 39 stations, with at least one in every country along five main routes.
Dubbed the 'tube for Europe,' the proposals for Starline envisage that replacing short-haul flights with a high-speed rail network could slice emissions by a whopping 95%, while a total of 424 major cities will be connected to ports, airports and rail.
What's more, the plans predict that there'll be an 80% reduction in short-haul flights, while the trains themselves, spanning 22,000 km (13,670.166 miles), will be 30% faster than cars and traditional rail routes.
So, how fast are we talking? The goal is for the core trains to be travelling at 100 miles per hour – or even faster – by 2040.
New £1,000,000,000 'Welsh Tube' to span 105 miles — with trains every 5 minutes
Wales' answer to London's Tube has been in the works since 2013 – and more than 10 years on, 2026 looks set to be the year it all comes together.
Costing a whopping £1,000,000,000, the project is set to span 170 kilometres (105.6 miles) worth of track, introducing 36 tram-style trains across Cardiff and the wider South Wales area.
There'll be six core lines connecting the Welsh capital to the likes of Aberdare, Coryton, Merthyr, Tydfil, Rhymney and Treherbert – with all the stops along the way identified by a colour-coded map.
The connections are set to be introduced in stages, but the project has already introduced brand-new trains across sections of the South Wales network, improved accessibility by installing extra lifts and access-for-all bridges, installed bike hoops, and added extra passenger information screens to make it easier for commuters to find their train.

Travel expert reveals the best time to book winter flights for a cheap Christmas getaway
Plus tricks to make sure you're getting the best deal BUDGET BREAK Travel expert reveals the best time to book winter flights for a cheap Christmas getaway Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THINKING about jetting off on a Christmas getaway before the summer holidays have even arrived might seem bonkers. But experts have revealed that booking up for the cold, winter months while the sun is still shining is a great way to save some cash. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Experts have told how you should be looking for a winter getaway during the summer Credit: PA 3 And there is one month where you can grab a good deal on a Christmas holiday Credit: Alamy So, if you're already eyeing up a December destination, then you might want to take note. Travel pros have found that the festive flight market follows predictable patterns that most passengers are unaware of. Prices for a Christmas getaway immediately start to climb from September onwards, and can reach eye-watering peaks by November. This is because most people start panic-booking and leave it to the last minute to organise a trip. So if you want to save money and find a cheap deal, experts have said the best time to book up for a festive trip is JUNE. Fred Harrington, a personal finance expert at SaveMyCent, revealed that this month is the "perfect window" to sort a winter holiday if you want to save some serious cash. We get so caught up in the immediate season that we miss incredible opportunities sitting right under our noses Fred Harrington He said: "Most people think booking Christmas flights in June is mad, but the data tells a completely different story. 'There's something fascinating about vacation booking psychology that works against most travellers. "We get so caught up in the immediate season that we miss incredible opportunities sitting right under our noses. "People are booking their August beach vacations right now, but completely ignoring December flights that are literally at their cheapest point of the year. Cheapest family holiday destinations for summer 2025 revealed "I've seen families stress about Christmas flight costs every single year, then kick themselves when they realise they could have saved hundreds by thinking ahead. "The airlines count on this predictable behaviour - they know most people will panic-book in autumn and pay whatever prices they set. 'What's brilliant about the June booking window is that it requires zero sacrifice. "You're not gambling on last-minute deals or settling for inconvenient times. "You're simply working with airline pricing cycles instead of against them. "Right now, we're in that perfect window where Christmas feels far enough away that most people aren't thinking about it, but close enough that airlines have released their full December inventory. 'By July, summer vacation demand will peak, and airlines start adjusting their algorithms for autumn booking patterns. 'That's when Christmas fares begin their steady climb upward." Fred also told how timing is everything when it comes to getting a good deal - and the days of the week you book up can actually have a massive impact on the price. To keep costs down, he advises booking on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and try to fly out on these same days, plus Saturdays. He explained: 'Airlines release their cheapest fare batches midweek. 'Weekend bookings often trigger higher pricing tiers because the algorithms assume you're leisure travellers with flexible budgets. Why do Christmas flight prices go crazy? DECEMBER flights don't just get expensive - they get absolutely bonkers. Fred explains that the madness typically starts in September when early bookers begin their search. By October, demand ramps up properly. Come November, you're looking at premium prices across the board as last-minute bookers scramble for remaining seats. He says: "Airlines know families will pay whatever it takes to get home for the holidays, so prices can jump substantially compared to off-peak times". Airlines use sophisticated pricing algorithms that constantly adjust fares based on search patterns, booking trends, and competitor pricing. And what many people don't realise is that these systems are designed to capitalise on predictable booking behaviours. Fred explains: 'The algorithms are incredibly smart, but they also follow patterns. 'June represents a dead zone for Christmas flight searches. Airlines haven't ramped up their festive pricing yet because demand signals are still quiet.' "Flying midweek also avoids the premium pricing that kicks in for Friday and Sunday departures when business travellers and weekend warriors push up demand." However, it's not just about timing - searching is also key for nabbing a cheap winter holiday. Fred says his "Flight Search Stacking' method is his "secret weapon" and has urged everyone to try it before they book up. The stacking method involves comparing not just prices, but date flexibility and layover options across platforms - and it can save you hundreds of pounds. Which means you can often uncover 'ghost fares' - which are lower-tier deals that only appear on certain sites or through alternative routing options. Fred said: "The Flight Search Stacking technique takes maybe an extra 10 minutes but can easily save you hundreds. "Run parallel searches across multiple platforms - Google Flights, Skyscanner, airline websites - but always in incognito or private browsing mode. 'Airlines track your searches and can actually bump up prices if they think you're desperate for a particular route.'
