Hamas co-founder killed in Gaza: IDF says it has eliminated Hakham Al-Issa; planned, executed October 7 attacks
The Israeli military on Sunday confirmed the killing of a senior Hamas figure, Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa, in an airstrike in Gaza City. The operation, carried out jointly with the Israel Security Agency, targeted Al-Issa in the Sabra neighbourhood on Friday.
Described as one of the last remaining senior Hamas commanders in the Strip, Al-Issa was a founding member of both Hamas and its military wing, and served as head of its combat support headquarters.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Al-Issa played a 'significant role' in orchestrating the October 7 attacks that left more than 1,200 Israelis dead and saw over 250 hostages taken. Although the IDF did not detail his exact involvement in the assault, officials claimed he had continued to help plan attacks on Israeli civilians and troops in recent days.
He was also said to be involved in attempts to restore Hamas's operational structure, which has been severely damaged by Israeli strikes during the ongoing war.

The IDF also announced the killing of another militant figure, Abbas Al-Hassan Wahbi, from Hezbollah's Radwan Force Battalion, in southern Lebanon. Wahbi had allegedly overseen intelligence operations and was engaged in weapons transfers, which Israel said violated prior understandings with Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate. Gaza's civil defence agency reported 37 deaths across the enclave on Saturday, including at least nine children. Airstrikes hit multiple areas, including a school sheltering displaced families in Gaza City and a home in Jabalia, where three children were among the casualties. Civil defence spokesperson Mahmud Bassal said two additional civilians were killed while waiting for food aid in the Netzarim corridor.
France's foreign minister Jean-Noel Barrot stated that Paris, alongside Europe, was prepared to help secure food aid distribution to Palestinians, amid concerns that armed groups were seizing relief supplies. However, he gave no specifics on how such security would be implemented.
Efforts to broker a new ceasefire are reportedly underway. Qatar, working alongside the US and Egypt, said it was trying to build on the momentum from the recent truce with Iran to push forward negotiations in Gaza. Qatari foreign ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari warned against squandering this opportunity.

Middle East conflict: Iran warns Israel may break ceasefire, says ‘prepared to give strong response'
Gen Abdolrahim Mousavi Iran's top military commander has expressed serious doubts over Israel's commitment to the ceasefire that ended the exchange of fire between the two nations. Speaking to Saudi Arabia's defence minister Prince Khalid bin Salman on Sunday, Iran's chief of staff of armed forces, Abdolrahim Mousavi warned that Tehran is prepared to retaliate if hostilities resume. "Since we have complete doubts about the enemy's (Israel) adherence to its commitments, including the ceasefire, we are prepared to give it a strong response if it repeats the aggression," he said, cited by Reuters quoting Tehran's semi-official Tasnim news agency. Although Iran did not start the war, Mousavi said, the country 'responded to the aggressor with all our power.' 'We have serious doubts over the enemy's compliance with its commitments including the ceasefire, we are ready to respond with force' he said, reported by state TV, quoted by AFP. The comments came six days after a ceasefire was announced by US President Donald Trump, ending nearly two weeks of intense fighting that began with an Israeli airstrike on June 13 targeting Iran's nuclear programme. In the days that followed, Israel claimed it had eliminated around 30 senior Iranian commanders and 11 nuclear scientists, and targeted eight nuclear-related facilities along with over 720 military infrastructure sites. The conflict left more than 1,000 dead, including at least 417 civilians, according to a US-based Human Rights Activists group. Iran retaliated forcefully, launching more than 550 ballistic missiles towards Israel. While the majority were intercepted, the strikes caused widespread damage and killed 28 people. Over the weekend, Iran held state funerals for around 60 individuals, including senior military officials and nuclear scientists, who were killed in the conflict.

Arrest warrant cannot be issued against person granted anticipatory bail: Calcutta HC quashes NBWs against defence personnel
KOLKATA: A warrant of arrest cannot be issued against a person who was granted anticipatory bail, the Calcutta High Court's Jalpaiguri circuit bench held on June 13 while scrapping non-bailable warrants issued by a Kurseong judicial magistrate against two defence personnel. 'If someone is granted anticipatory bail, he is protected from arrest, and if arrested, he must be released upon fulfilment of the conditions imposed by the court while granting the anticipatory bail. A warrant cannot be issued against him because the bail order already provides him protection from arrest. The only event when such a person may be arrested is when he violates the conditions of bail as directed by the court for him to comply with,' Justice Rai Chattopadhyay held. The order of the judicial magistrate at Kurseong on November 26, 2024, was challenged by the two defence personnel against whom non-bailable arrest warrants were issued. Their counsel and Deputy Solicitor General (DSGI) Sudipto Kumar Mazumder said, 'A case was registered against the two after an alleged scuffle broke out in 2019 when the two, along with others, went to one of the encroached lands of defence for eviction, after notice. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo ' You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata In 2019, the two defence officials were granted anticipatory bail by the Calcutta High Court's circuit bench at Jalpaiguri. Mazumder submitted that the arrest warrant issued against them was a 'gross irregularity and unauthorised exercise of power by the magistrate.' An FIR was registered at the Kurseong police station under sections of the Indian Penal Code dealing with a member of an unlawful assembly, criminal trespass, wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, assault to a woman with an intent to outrage her modesty, causing damage to property, criminal intimidation, and common intention on February 5, 2019. It was submitted that both of them are defence personnel who, in the course of their duty, restrained the complainant and others from forcefully taking possession of defence land. They were granted anticipatory bail on June 28, 2019. A charge sheet was submitted on June 10, 2024, and it was mentioned that the accused persons are 'bailed by court.' After which, a non-bailable warrant of arrest was issued by the magistrate on November 26, 2024. The judge noted that in this case, the anticipatory bail was granted prior to the submission of the charge sheet by the police. 'It is noticeable that the magistrate, in his enthusiastic pursuit to exercise an overwhelming statutory power of him which has the effect of even curtailing the personal liberty of an individual, has perhaps overlooked such recording in the charge sheet. Thus, the learned magistrate committed a wrong by delivering an order without even feeling any necessity to cite as to what has been recorded by police in the charge sheet regarding the grant of bail to the accused persons/petitioners,' Justice Chattopadhyay held. **END** **Facts of the Case:** - Case registered against the two: February 5, 2019. - Anticipatory bail granted: June 28, 2019. - Charge sheet submitted: June 10, 2024. - Non-bailable warrants issued against the two: November 26, 2024. - The two appealed against it before HC. - Judge quashed the warrants issued and directed the two to appear before the magistrate within three weeks and grant an undertaking that they will abide by the bail conditions. Boundaries of administrative units to be frozen on Dec 31, 2025 for Census
The Centre has asked states and Union Territories to make any proposed changes in the boundaries of administrative units before December 31, when they will be considered final for the census exercise. In a letter to all states and Union Territories, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Mritunjay Kumar Narayan has said that for the Census, all villages and towns are divided into uniform enumeration blocks and for each block, an enumerator is assigned to avoid any miss or repetition during the population count. According to norms, the Census can be conducted only three months after the freezing of boundary limits of administrative units such as districts, sub-districts, tehsils, talukas and police stations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Direct Shopping From Adidas Franchise Store, Up To 50% Off Original Adidas Shop Now Undo Narayan said from April 1, 2026, the Houselisting Operation, the appointment of supervisors and enumerators and the work division among them will be done, and on February 1, 2027, the Census of the population will begin. It is important that once enumeration blocks are finalised, boundaries of administrative units are not changed, the letter said. Live Events In his letter addressed to chief secretaries, Narayan asked them to direct all departments to make any proposed changes in the boundaries of municipal corporations, revenue villages, tehsils, sub-divisions or districts before December 31. He asked the states and UTs to ensure that no changes should be made in the boundaries of administrative units between January 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027, during which Census exercise will take place. Any changes in the existing boundaries must be intimated to Census Directorates in the states and Union Territories and Registrar General of India by December 31, 2025, it said. "For Census 2027 , boundaries of administrative units will be frozen on December 31, 2025," the letter said. To ensure a fair workload for enumerators, an administrative unit is divided into manageable sections for the Census called "blocks". A block is a clearly defined area within a village or town on a notional map for census purposes. These are termed Houselisting Blocks (HLBs) during Houselisting Operations and Enumeration Blocks (EBs) during Population Enumeration and serve as the smallest administrative units for the Census. India's 16th Census with caste enumeration will be carried out in 2027 with the reference date of October 1, 2026, in snow-bound areas like Ladakh and March 1, 2027, in the rest of the country. The Census will be conducted in two phases. In phase one i.e. houselisting Operation (HLO), the housing conditions, assets and amenities of each household will be collected. Subsequently, in the second phase i.e. Population Enumeration (PE), the demographic, socio-economic, cultural and other details of every person in each household will be collected. In the Census, caste enumeration will also be done, a Government statement had said. For Census activities, about 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors and around 1.3 lakh Census functionaries would be deployed. It is the 16th Census till now and the eighth after independence. The ensuing Census will be conducted through digital means using mobile applications. Provision of Self-enumeration would also be made available to the people. Very stringent data security measures would be kept in place to ensure data security at the time of collection, transmission and storage, the statement had said. The reference date for Population Census - 2027 will be 00:00 hours of the first day of March 2027. For the Union Territory of Ladakh and the non-synchronous snow-bound areas of the UT of Jammu and Kashmir and states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the reference date will be 00.00 hours of the first day of October 2026, a notification had said. This Census will be carried out after 16 years as the last one was done in 2011.
