WATCH: Joburg high-speed chase ends with crashed Ford Falcon being apprehended
Two men and a woman had allegedly racked up more than 30 cases of fuel theft and other crimes in the Johannesburg region, but despite a valiant attempt at a getaway that resulted in a crash, they were apprehended by Anton Koen and his No Jack anti-hijacking team.
Other charges of theft and armed robbery are included alongside the reported R120 000 worth of fuel that had been stolen from multiple filling stations, resulting in the uncommon Ford Falcon being flagged in Boksburg.

Information was relayed to the No Jack team on their whereabouts, and multiple teams collaborated to apprehend the assailants. An initial attempt to get away had the Falcon scrape past a Ford Ranger and Volkswagen Polo in the security team.
What can only be described as a nerve-wracking high-speed chase ensued, which endangered many other road users and pedestrians. Eventual tyre blowouts and fender benders with other road users had the final outcome result in the getaway Ford Falcon crashing into one of the Ford Ranger chase bakkies once it was boxed in with a school bus in the oncoming lane.
Not the most logical choice for its rarity, the Ford Falcon EL used in the chase isn't a slouch with its 4.0-litre inline six-cylinder producing 157 kW and 357 N.m, but it's little surprise they chose petrol to steal because it boasted high fuel consumption in its day with averages ranging well above 11 L/100 km.

No information on what will happen with the assailants has been provided since the SAPS weren't invited to this chase, but it is assumed that they will be processed and charged before facing the full might of South African law. Koen added that some of the chase vehicles sustained damage, but it seems local panel beating shops have offered to cover the repair work free of profit.

He was sentenced to 24 years in prison and has applied for parole three times. His third attempt was briefly successful in June 2024, when the parole board cited his rehabilitation efforts and acceptance of responsibility. Limpopo police bust truck smuggling stolen goods to Malawi
Limpopo police struck a decisive blow against transnational crime, intercepting a highly organised smuggling syndicate transporting stolen goods from Cape Town to Malawi. At around 2:00 on Thursday, 5 June, the Limpopo Anti-Smuggling Task Team, working with Tshimollo Security and Investigation and Shadow Secure Technology, stopped a Scania truck with superlink trailers near the Polokwane weighbridge. The truck, believed to be part of a broader criminal network exploiting the Beitbridge border post, was found carrying a staggering cache of stolen items following an 18-hour search operation. 'This breakthrough represents a major victory against sophisticated criminal networks that have been exploiting our borders to traffic stolen goods,' said Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe. Stolen Goods Reveal Chopped Cars and Bikes Investigators uncovered chopped parts of a Ford Ranger stolen in Nyanga, including critical components like the engine and dashboard. Sixty disassembled motorcycles, hidden in drums and containers, were traced to thefts from at least seven police precincts across the Western Cape, such as Bellville, Muizenberg, and Sea Point. Electronic goods suspected to have been stolen, including plasma televisions, sound systems, solar tower batteries, and cell phones, were also added to the haul. All were concealed in an elaborate smuggling setup designed to pass undetected through one of the busiest trade routes in southern Africa. Pinetown SAPS officer to run his first Comrades
PINETOWN SAPS staff gathered in high spirits to offer their well wishes to one of their own who will run the Comrades Marathon. Detective Constable Siyabonga Sithole, who will be running his first Comrades, said it has always been his dream to run the ultimate human race. 'I was touched when I saw people living with disability starting and finishing the Comrades race, so I felt I owe it to myself to do it too.' Sithole said he started his running journey when he joined the police force in 2018. 'That's where I fell in love with sport, more especially running. Then I started with small races of 10km which I still run.' Asked how he balances his demanding job as a policeman and training for the gruelling marathon, Sithole said he trains in the afternoons after work. I also get training sometimes during the day as my job requires me to run after criminals,' he said with a smile, adding that he has prepared himself mentally to run the race. Qualifying for the Comrades is a big highlight of Sithole's life as it has changed his lifestyle positively. 'Work-wise, it helps me a lot because I keep fit, which is what my work requires. The support that I get from my colleagues is amazing, and I am growing as a person and as a police officer.' He encourages every South African to try this race at least once in a lifetime. 'This race is called 'isiko mpilo', which means 'a way of life'. I wish to further encourage youth to exercise as it helps prevent diseases.' Pinetown SAPS acting station commander, Colonel Ronnie Heeralall, said Sithole's commitment, dedication, and perseverance have paid off, thereby qualifying him to run an internationally recognised race.
