A NORTH Cumbrian church will be hosting a range of events over an upcoming weekend.
Reverend Richard Corrie has organised various events that will take place at St Mary's Church, Wigton, this summer.
On Friday, June 6, there will be an antiques and collectables valuation, hosted by BBC's antiques expert Paul Laidlaw.
Paul, of Laidlaw Auctioneers and Valuers, in Carlisle, has appeared on Bargain Hunt and Antiques Road Trip.
He will be valuing antiques and collectors' items, including jewelry, silver, watches, medals, militaria, and anything that is 'quirky or unusual.'
On Saturday, June 7, there will be a performance by the Border Concert Band.
A spokesperson said: "An independent community wind band of 35 talented amateur musicians from North Cumbria and South West Scotland.
"Brass, woodwind, percussion, with a wide repertoire, light classical, contemporary pop and rock, music from the stage and screen, and military marches.
"Always a foot-tapping, crowd-pleasing performance."
There will also be an organ recital by David T Shingler, an organ scholar of Carlisle Cathedral. This will take place on Friday, June 6, at 7.30pm.
Shingler has previously been assistant and deputy organist at St Mary's Church, in Wigton.
The programme will include a variety of pieces, including music by Cumbrian composers.
On Monday, June 9, at 7.30pm, there will be a quiz night with Tom Elliott.
Tom is a Christian comedian and musician who has been described by Miranda Hart as 'such fun.'
A spokesperson said: "This will be a fun night of general knowledge, fun, and faith.
"Teams of up to five are welcome or come along and join a team on the night."
On Sunday, June 8, at 3.30pm, there will be a Songs of Praise session hosted by two members of the Salvation Army.
Further details about these events can be found on St Mary's Church's social media pages.

Music group to launch European tour with concert in West Monkton

A renowned music group will launch their European tour with a concert near Taunton. The Monteverdi String Band will unveil their new programme of Italian Baroque and Renaissance music at St Augustine's Church in West Monkton. The concert, on Friday, July 11, at 7pm, will feature Hannah Ely, an international early music soprano, who gained fame as a soloist with groups such as The Sixteen, The Tallis Scholars, and John Eliot Gardiner's Monteverdi choir. The performance is part of a special event hosted by Music on the Quantocks, who won a national competition for the band to test their new concert. Hannah will perform alongside the Monteverdi String Band's leading violinist Oliver Webber and the band's lutenist Toby Carr, who will play the lute and theorbo – a giant lute almost six feet in length. The programme will include pieces by Palestrina, Monteverdi, and other master composers of the Italian Baroque era. The church's lawns will also be open and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks will be served. To reserve your seat, email quantocks@ and inform them of how many seats you would like. Once contacted, they will send a seating diagram to help choose your preferred spot. Seats are priced at £8, £12, £16, £18, and £20, with payment options via BACS bank transfer or cheque. Following the concert, The Monteverdi String Band will subsequently take their concert to cathedrals and prestigious concert halls across Europe.

PICTURES: Picnic in the Park a roaring success despite wet weather

THE weather did not stop Salisbury Live's latest event from being a roaring success, as picnic in the park was acclimatised at the 11th hour. On Saturday, June 7, Picnic in the Park moved into Alderbury Village Hall and Social Club due to the poor weather forecast. However, the atmosphere remained fantastic as acts performed to a packed hall and food vendors set up in the park and traded well once the sun emerged. READ MORE: Organiser Colin Holton said: "All credit to the Alderbury committee for their sterling effort in bringing it off so professionally and big thanks to the brilliant people of Alderbury for supporting the event, they certainly know how to have fun." Sunday, June 8 saw improved weather for the Acoustic Sunday at the George & Dragon pub. Sounds of Salisbury programmed and facilitated the celebration of some of the most popular acoustic acts. Acoustic Sunday has now become a mainstay in the Salisbury Live festival programme and this year's event was busy from start to finish. When a fox says ‘help' in London, there's often an ambulance on its way

PADDOCK WOOD, England — The injured fox is cornered in a cage, teeth bared and snarling at the woman trying to help it. Nicki Townsend is unfazed. Wearing only rubber gloves and an outfit suitable for a yoga class, she approaches with soothing words. 'All right, baby,' she coos as she deftly drapes a towel over his head, grabs him by the scruff of his neck, scoops up his wounded legs and moves him to a clean cage.
