Ireda files ₹510 crore insolvency plea against Gensol under IBC
New Delhi: Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (Ireda) has filed an insolvency application against Gensol Engineering Ltd over a default of ₹510 crore, according to an exchange filing from the power financier on Wednesday.
"In furtherance to our earlier letter dated 25.04.2025 with respect to M/s Gensol Engineering Limited, this is to inform you that the Company has filed an application today i.e. May 14, 2025 under Section 7 of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 against M/s Gensol Engineering Ltd, for an amount of default of ₹510,00,52,672/- (Rupees Five Hundred Ten Crore and Fifty Two Thousand Six Hundred and Seventy Two Only)," the company said in a filing.
Section 7 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code allows
financial creditors
to initiate a
corporate insolvency resolution process
(CIRP) against a corporate debtor in case of default.
The move follows Ireda's complaint to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police on April 25, alleging that Gensol submitted falsified documents and diluted promoters' shares without approval from lenders.
At the time, Ireda had said Gensol's account was under stress but not yet classified as a non-performing asset (NPA). It also stated that an internal review had been initiated in line with Reserve Bank of India guidelines and internal due diligence protocols.
The developments also follow a series of regulatory actions against Gensol Engineering and its promoters. On Tuesday, Anmol Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi, co-founders of Gensol, resigned from the company. Their resignation came a month after the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) barred them from holding any key managerial positions.
Sebi alleged that the Jaggi brothers diverted company funds for personal luxury purchases and were involved in debt defaults. The market regulator also claimed that Gensol defaulted on loans, including those taken to finance electric vehicles for BluSmart Mobility.
In April, the Enforcement Directorate conducted raids at Gensol's premises and seized documents and electronic records. Sebi has also ordered a forensic audit of the company.

Sebi offers settlement for brokers facing action in algo trading
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has offered a settlement scheme for brokers who were undergoing regulatory action for being associated with algo trading platforms. The scheme is going to apply to brokers dealing with proceedings before the regulator and the Securities Appellate Tribunal. The Sebi move is to provide a route to the brokers to conclude these matters in an expeditious manner. The scheme which commences on July 16 will conclude on September 16, Sebi said in a statement This scheme aims to provide a settlement opportunity to stock brokers linked with specific algo platforms against whom proceedings have already been initiated by Sebi and are currently pending before any authority or forum like the Adjudicating Officer, Securities Appellate Tribunal or the courts. The concerned stock brokers may settle the proceedings and seek an expedited conclusion to their cases by availing of the benefits of this scheme. However, Sebi clarified that actions initiated against stock brokers, who choose not to avail this settlement opportunity, will continue in accordance with the law. Over 100 brokers earlier reportedly received Sebi warnings for allowing APIs (application programming interface) of an algo provider, which allegedly provided assured returns. Earlier, trading applications provided by several brokers allowed their clients to use API — a software that allows two applications to communicate with each other. After they are installed, APIs get the authorisation to perform a host of functions in the trading account, such as placing buy and sell orders or cancelling orders. Sebi issued a circular in 2022 prohibiting stockbrokers from any association with platforms offering assured returns. Market regulator Sebi is conducting an extensive investigation into Jane Street's derivatives trading activity over the past three years, examining whether the global quantitative trading giant attempted to manipulate India's benchmark stock indices, according to a Reuters report. The probe — said to be SEBI's most far-reaching into an international trading firm — comes amid the regulator's broader efforts to temper the heightened activity in India's booming derivatives market. The investigation is focused on Jane Street, its Singapore-based affiliate Jane Street Singapore Pte, and JSI Investments, its Indian unit. SEBI is reviewing the firms' algorithmic trading strategies, particularly in relation to the NSE's Nifty 50 index and its banking sector counterpart.

Mumbai NCLT allows 90-day extension of insolvency resolution for Lavasa Corp
Mumbai: The Mumbai bench of National Company Law Tribunal ( NCLT ) has allowed a 90-day extension in the ongoing consolidated corporate insolvency resolution process (CIRP) of Lavasa Corp beginning May 29. The planned city project is undergoing a fresh CIRP after the NCLT, in September 2024, directed that the entire process be restarted, following the successful bidder's failure to implement the approved resolution plan within the specified time frame. The company has admitted liabilities of more than ₹6,642 crore, while the erstwhile successful bidder, Darwin Platform Infrastructure , had proposed to pay ₹1,814 crore. "We are of the view that the present application deserves to be allowed," the division bench of judicial member Ashish Kalia and technical member Sanjiv Dutt observed on June 2. "Since the CIRP is at an advanced stage and resolution plans have already been submitted by PRAs (prospective resolution applicants), which are required to be considered by the CoC (committee of creditors), the extension is being sought in the interest of value maximisation and to ensure that the objectives of the Code ( Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code ) are duly met." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 모공각화증, 저는 집에서 이렇게 해결했어요 (전후사진) 현명한소비자 Undo
