Former Ukrainian president: Zelenskyy didn't have right to sanction me
Businessman Ihor Kolomoiskyi and Viktor Medvedchuk, a former MP from the banned pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life party, were legally placed under the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) sanctions, as they are no longer Ukrainian citizens, claims Petro Poroshenko, the fifth President of Ukraine and MP of the European Solidarity party. Meanwhile, he considers his inclusion in the sanctions list unfounded.

Quote: "Legally, Mr Kolomoiskyi is now a foreigner, so there are no restrictions on imposing sanctions against him. It's the same with Medvedchuk. And it is completely legal for Zelenskyy to sanction him for the third time.
But with Poroshenko you don't have that right, because Poroshenko is in Ukraine and never leaves. Petro Poroshenko is a Ukrainian citizen and has never held any other citizenship."
Background:
On 13 February, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy approved a decision made by Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council on 12 February to impose sanctions against businessman Ihor Kolomoiskyi; billionaire Kostiantyn Zhevago; Hennadii Boholiubov, former co-owner of PrivatBank; Petro Poroshenko, the fifth president of Ukraine and a European Solidarity party MP; and Viktor Medvedchuk, a former MP from the banned pro-Russian Opposition Platform – For Life party, who is also accused of treason.
Zelenskyy later said that these sanctions were aimed at people who had been "laundering" money and "withdrawing billions of hryvnias" during the war since 2014. He also added that if the funds were returned to the Ukrainian budget, the sanctions would be lifted.
Petro Poroshenko's lawyers plan to appeal the decision to impose sanctions against him in court.
On 10 January 2023, Zelenskyy revoked Viktor Medvedchuk's citizenship. However, the NSDC decision states that Medvedchuk remains a Ukrainian citizen. It is known that Medvedchuk has contested Zelenskyy's decision to revoke his citizenship.
According to media reports, Kolomoiskyi's Ukrainian citizenship was revoked in July 2022. In 2014, he admitted to having passports from Israel and Cyprus.

Three Ukrainians killed in bus accident in France, Zelensky confirms
Three Ukrainian nationals were killed in a bus accident in France on June 13, President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed in a statement on Telegram. "Terrible news about the tragic bus accident in France," Zelensky wrote. The accident occurred in the morning of June 13, near the Sarthe department of France. The bus was reportedly carrying Ukrainian nationals, including adults and children, who were returning from an educational exchange. While en route to Paris, the bus lost control and flipped into a ditch. Four adults were killed in total – three of whom were Ukrainian nationals. French media reported that nine people sustained serious injuries, while an additional 18 suffered minor injuries. Zelensky added that Ukraine's Foreign Ministry promptly sent a team of diplomats and consuls, led by the ambassador to France, to assist survivors and support the victims' families. The team is coordinating with French authorities and emergency services at the scene. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko are providing regular updates on the victims' conditions and emerging details regarding the accident. Zelensky thanked the French authorities, noting that "more than 50 emergency teams were deployed" in what he called "a true expression of French solidarity."He also expressed his "condolences to all the families of the victims" and wished for a "speedy recovery of the injured children." Judge allows Columbia activist Mahmoud Khalil to remain detained
June 13 (UPI) -- A federal judge on Friday ruled that the Trump administration can continue to detain Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil, two days after he said foreign policy grounds for his detention are insufficient and likely unconstitutional. Michael Farbiarz of the U.S. District Court for New Jersey in Newark made the decision after government lawyers presented a new filing. Farbiaz on Wednesday had stayed the preliminary injunction until Friday, giving the government time to appeal. The government said continuing to detain Khalil does not violate the injunction because he is now being detained based on "other grounds," such as being undocumented when he entered the United States. Also, they said Khalil could be held for failing to disclose all required information on his legal permanent resident application. The administration said that "an alien like Khalil may be detained during the pendency of removal proceedings regardless of the charge of removability. Khalil may seek release through the appropriate administrative processes, first before an officer of the Department of Homeland Security, and secondly through a custody redetermination hearing before an immigration judge." The judge, who was appointed by President Joe Biden, said Khalil can seek his release through a "bail application to the immigration judge. "To the extent the Petitioner requests relief from this Court, the request is denied," the judge ruled. In April, Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a memo, citing an obscure provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952. The secretary of state can deport noncitizens if the secretary determines their presence in the country would result in "potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States." On Wednesday, the judge said that while the Department of Homeland Security might have a stronger and enforceable claim to detain and deport Khalil, Rubio's determination is not enough to warrant his continued detention and eventual deportation. Brett Max Kaufman, a senior staff attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, told NBC News: "The government practically never holds people in detention on a charge like this, and it's clear that the government is doing anything they can to punish Mahmoud for his speech about Palestine. We will not stop until he's home with his family." Khalil, who was born in 1995, grew up in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria and was granted permanent U.S. resident status. He led pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University last year. In March, he was arrested outside his student housing on campus and detained before the Trump administration accused him of leading "activities aligned to Hamas, a designated terrorist organization." He has not been charged with any crime.

'All-in': GOP lawmakers divided on US involvement as Trump pushes Iran for diplomatic end
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., called for the president to go "all-in" for Israel should a diplomatic end to the conflict with Iran not be met. Earlier in the day, President Donald Trump called on Iranian leaders to return to the negotiating table to strike a nuclear deal to avoid "even more brutal" attacks. Graham lauded Trump's desire to bring Iran back to the table but countered that "if Iran refuses this offer, I strongly believe it is in America's national security interest to go all-in to help Israel finish the job." "One of the benefits of this approach is that it would substantially undo the damage done to our reputation by Biden's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan," Graham said on X. "If diplomacy fails, going all-in for Israel shows that America is back as a reliable ally and a strong force against oppression. It would strengthen our hand in all corners of the world, as well as all other conflicts we face." Fetterman Calls For Us To Supply Anything Israel Needs For Iran Attack: 'Military, Intelligence, Weaponry' Read On The Fox News App His zeal to support the Jewish State came before Fox News reported that two U.S. Navy Destroyers, the USS Sullivans and USS Arleigh Burke, were assisting Israel to shoot down incoming missile volleys from Iran. However, other pro-Israel lawmakers were not ready to see American troops deployed in the region and believed Trump would be the key to preventing any action from the U.S. Israel Launches 'Operation Rising Lion' On Iran, Targeting Nuclear Facilities, Tehran "I can't imagine a world in which that happens," Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., told Fox News Digital. "I'd be opposed to that. The president is adamantly opposed to that. I trust President Trump here to keep our troops and other personnel safe in the region." Hawley said Trump "has offered Iran an off-ramp here for a long time" through the nuclear agreement negotiation and noted the president again offered an out. Mccaul Says Israel Strikes Are 'Perfect Opportunity' For Iranians To Overthrow Islamic Regime "You know, they ought to take that off-ramp," he said. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chair Jim Risch, R-Idaho, told Fox News Digital in a statement that "no one hates to see U.S. troops put at risk more than our president." "President Trump has worked tirelessly to end wars and stop killing. And, in this case, I know he will continue to do all he can to keep U.S. troops out of harm's way as the war between Israel and Iran unfolds," he said. Israel's strike on Iran was intended to take out the country's nuclear enrichment program and carry out targeted attacks on a number of top Iranian officials. Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., said the strike was "warranted" given Iran's years of aggression against Israel, but he agreed with the president that negotiations needed to resume. "A regime that chants 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israel' can never be allowed to have a nuclear weapon," he said in a statement to Fox News Digital. "Israel has every right to defend itself, and America stands with Israel." But others, like Sen. Mark Kelly, D-Ariz., accused Trump of killing the Iran nuclear agreement and contended that the end of negotiations "accelerated Iran's development towards a bomb." Still, he hoped a deal could be made to prevent further "escalation in the region that could endanger American citizens, troops and our interests." "As we support Israel in protecting their people from Iran's response, everyone needs to be focused on de-escalation," Kelly said in a statement.
