Through a strategic partnership between the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC) entities—Technology Innovation Institute (TII) and ASPIRE—the UAE is on track to reshape the way people and goods move through urban spaces.
With aerial corridors and regulations set to be defined within the next 20 months, this pioneering effort demonstrates the UAE's unwavering commitment to deploying safe, advanced, sustainable transportation solutions that will not only ease congestion but also set a global benchmark for future urban mobility systems. These routes will connect key international airports and iconic places in the UAE, extending further to ensure seamless integration of piloted and autonomous air taxis and cargo drones across the nation's urban landscapes.
His Excellency Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA said: 'Air corridor mapping for piloted and autonomous air taxis and drones is a crucial milestone that will enable the seamless implementation of Advanced Air Mobility into the UAE's infrastructure. This initiative ensures the safe and efficient adoption of air mobility, delivering transformative solutions to urban transport and paving the way for a smarter, more connected future.'
The UAE's forward-thinking approach to urban transportation will be supported by TII's expertise in airspace management, ensuring the safe integration of piloted and autonomous air taxis and cargo drones into urban environments. These new air corridors will offer innovative solutions for passenger and cargo transport, relieving pressure on traditional road networks and improving connectivity.
Dr. Najwa Aaraj, CEO of TII, said: 'This transformative collaboration with GCAA is reshaping the future of urban transportation. The agreement was announced during World Governments Summit 2025.
Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) refers to the use of automated aircraft in urban and suburban settings to deliver innovative transport solutions for people and goods. With TII at the helm of developing the technical aspects of AAM and ASPIRE focusing on creating a network of stakeholders, including regulators, industry leaders, and researchers, this collaboration aims to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework that ensures safety and operational efficiency.
Prof. Enrico Natalizio, Chief Researcher of the Autonomous Robotics Research Center at TII, commented: 'At TII, we're developing advanced AI-powered control, vision and communication algorithms for autonomous systems that enable real-time decision-making for air taxis and drones. Having mastered this technology, we are able to propose methodologies for AAM corridors design to optimize routes, ensure collision avoidance, and integrate seamlessly with urban airspace, marking a key step toward efficient and safe autonomous air mobility in complex urban environments.'
Together with GCAA, these entities will define the airspace regulations and develop airspace management systems, making the UAE a global benchmark for advanced urban mobility.

The 2025 edition will take place on 15 November at Yas Marina Circuit with a USD $2.25 million prize pool and the launch of a pioneering global virtual racing series. Following a groundbreaking debut in April 2024, which drew over 10,000 spectators and more than 1 million global streaming views, A2RL Season 2 is back with even greater ambition, expanded international participation, and a bold new platform to advance autonomous mobility. The announcement was made during the Make it in the Emirates Forum in Abu Dhabi. The Emirates Autonomous Vehicle (EAV 24), A2RL's upgraded autonomous racecar, represents a significant leap in performance and engineering. Assembled and autonomized in the UAE, the vehicle reflects the nation's growing capabilities in AI, robotics, and high-performance mobility. Built on the proven Super Formula SF23 platform, the EAV-24 has been reengineered to incorporate enhanced sensor arrays, upgraded compute systems, and refined control logic, optimized for the demanding conditions of autonomous racing. This year's league welcomes elite research teams from 10 countries, with the global roster expanding to include France and Japan for the first time, joining a strong line-up of returning teams from the USA, Germany, China, Singapore, Italy, and the UAE. As the world's most advanced competition for autonomous systems, A2RL continues to bridge the gap between simulation and real-world application. A key innovation this season is the launch of A2RL SIM-Sprint. A series of virtual races designed to fast-track algorithm refinement and test AI systems in diverse conditions, the SIM Sprint extends A2RL into a year-round development ecosystem. By offering a consistent and controlled environment for experimentation, the SIM Sprint allows teams to accelerate the development of their autonomous driving algorithms beyond what is possible through real-world testing alone. Abu Dhabi, UAE –February 2025 – Abu Dhabi's VentureOne and CARACAL have partnered to launch Centurion, a next-generation body armor system, designed by the Technology Innovation Institute (TII), that will set new standards in safety, mobility, and comfort for defense forces, at IDEX 2025, the region's largest defense exhibition. CARACAL is a regional leader in high-performance small arms within EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups. VentureOne, which commercializes groundbreaking TII technologies, ensures that innovations can transition rapidly from R&D to large-scale deployment. Traditional body armor is often heavy, restrictive, and prone to overheating. Centurion is set to revolutionize soldier protection by integrating next-generation advanced materials, developed by experts at TII, that enhance mobility, comfort, and safety, even in extreme conditions. It will debut with UAE troops before being exported to other countries. Centurion's armor plates provide rifle-grade protection, with the Level III++ variant withstanding six rounds of 7.62x 51mm NATO FMJ (M80), 7.62x39mm MSC Ball and 5.56x45mm (SS109/M855) bullets while minimizing impact trauma. Centurion exceeds international ballistic standards, including those set by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). Centurion is also lightweight, cost-effective, and ergonomically designed for maximum mobility. It can integrate situational awareness features to enhance users' real-time responsiveness. Its modular, customizable plate system offers multiple shapes and coatings, allowing users to tailor protection for covert, tactical, or maritime missions. With positive buoyancy, it is also ideal for marine and diver operations.
