MDMK leader Vaiko backs Haasan's view on Kannada origin

COIMBATORE: MDMK leader and Rajya Sabha member Vaiko on Thursday backed actor-politician Kamal Haasan's remarks that the Kannada language was born out of Tamil.
Addressing the media, Vaiko said that Tamil is one of the oldest languages like Latin or Greek. "Not only Robert Caldwell (renowned 19th-century missionary and linguist), but other linguistic experts across the globe have acknowledged that Tamil is the oldest language in the world," the veteran politician said.
"We are not lauding the Tamil language as we are from Tamil Nadu. There is nothing wrong in Kamal Hassan's statement since he stated the truth that Kannada was born out of Tamil," said Vaiko who demanded the fringe parties in Karnataka to stop protesting against Kamal and Tamils in Karnataka.
Vaiko blamed the lack of timely police intelligence for the tragic Bengaluru stampede on Wednesday.
"The police intelligence wing could have gathered a report about the visitors and taken prior steps to prevent it," he noted.

NDA will form govt in Tamil Nadu in 2026; people will throw out DMK: Amit Shah

Madurai (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 8 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that the NDA will form government in Tamil Nadu as the people of the state will 'defeat' the DMK government in the 2026 Assembly election. He also reiterated his demand to the state government for teaching medical and engineering courses in the Tamil language. 'The NDA government of the BJP-AIADMK alliance will be formed here in 2026. I live in Delhi, but my ears are always on Tamil Nadu,' Shah said while addressing BJP office-bearers in Madurai, Tamil Nadu. 'MK Stalin says that Amit Shah cannot defeat DMK. He is right. It's not me, but the people of Tamil Nadu will defeat you,' he added. The Union Minister said that he expected Chief Minister Stalin to write to PM Modi, thanking him for installing Sengol in Parliament. 'I want to repeat my demand to the Tamil Nadu government that medical and engineering be taught in the Tamil language soon. PM Modi respected Tamil Nadu by installing Sengol in Parliament, and I expect MK Stalin to write a letter to the PM to thank him for it,' he said. Shah said that before Modi became Prime Minister, there were more deadly terror attacks than in Pahalgam, but there was no befitting reply. 'Our innocent citizens were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack. Terrorists killed them after asking their religion. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, our three armed forces entered Pakistan and killed terrorists. There were many terrorists attack before Modi became Prime Minister, but there was no befitting reply,' he said. 'After Modi ji became Prime Minister in 2014, the Uri, Pulwama, and now Pahalgam attacks took place. With surgical strike, airstrike, and Operation Sindoor, we have given a befitting reply to terrorists responsible for these attacks,' he added. Shah thanked the people of Tamil Nadu for their warm response to the Tiranga Yatra, which was held to honour the bravery of the armed forces in Operation Sindoor. He said that the people of Tamil Nadu will 'throw out' the DMK government in next year's Assembly elections. 'I have had participated in election campaigns across the country. I know the pulse of the public. This time, the people of Tamil Nadu will throw out the DMK government,' he said. 'In 2025, we formed the government in Delhi, in 2026, BJP-NDA will form the government in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu,' he added. (ANI)

Kushwaha holds rally in Muz, disregards‘4-5 seats' media buzz as distraction

Patna: Rajya Sabha member and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) president, Upendra Kushwaha , while addressing a rally in Muzaffarpur on Sunday expressed annoyance over media speculations about offer of "four-five seats" to his party under the seat-sharing formula, stating that "his politics is for change, not for posts". He said he would continue raising issues concerning the common people, no matter how many troubles come his way. His rally is being billed as a "show of strength" to bargain for more seats as the NDA gets busy with finalising the seat-sharing. Addressing the "Samvaidhanik Adhikar-Parisiman Sudhar" rally, Kushwaha said he never cared about seats since he enjoys the "people's power". "Four-five seats…Upendra Kushwaha kabhi iski chinta nahin karta hai (I never worry about it)," Kushwaha said, adding, for him issues are more important and that he would continue raising them come what may. He said if compromising with people's issues leads to a post, it is better to remain without such a post. Citing examples, Kushwaha, who served as a Union minister of state during the first term of PM Narendra Modi, said Mahatma Gandhi, Babasaheb Ambedkar, and Jayaprakash Narayan could have got any post, but they gave first priority to the people's issues. "Main pad nahin, parivartan ke liye rajniti karta hun (My politics is for change, not for any posts)," he said, alleging that the "seat issue" was being deliberately raised to divert the people's attention from the core issues. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 관절염 발생률 99% 감소 "이것" 마시기만 했더니 '손목/허리/무릎 통증 사라져" hoguanwon Undo Strongly advocating for delimitation, he said the lack of this exercise was causing a great loss to the state. "If the delimitation process was carried out on time, the number of Lok Sabha seats in Bihar would have gone up to 60, leading to increased representation of scheduled castes and women, but this has been hanging fire," Kushwaha said, warning of launching an agitation against "gross injustice" to the state. He also raised concern over the collegium system in the judiciary, describing it as an "unjust process". He demanded that the appointment of judges in the Supreme Court and high courts be made through a written test, quite like the recruitment process available for the bureaucrats in the country. 'Stalin correct in saying I can't defeat DMK, but people can': Amit Shah in Tamil Nadu

Union home minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah on Sunday asserted that the NDA would form governments in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal next year. Amit Shah suggested that Tamil Nadu chief minister might be correct in saying "Amit Shah cannot defeat DMK", but it is the 'people of Tamil Nadu who will bring about that change.' Addressing party office bearers in Madurai, Shah reminded them of the party's performance in the Delhi assembly elections and vowed to repeat it in the two states. 'In 2025, we successfully formed the government in Delhi, and in 2026, it will be Tamil Nadu's turn to witness a new government under our leadership. In the same year, the BJP and NDA are set to establish governments in both West Bengal and Tamil Nadu,' Shah said. He also targeted the MK Stalin-led ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu, saying that the Karyakartas Sammelan (workers' meeting) would mark the beginning of the DMK government's decline. In 2026, the BJP-AIADMK alliance is poised to form the NDA government in Tamil Nadu,' Shah said. 'While the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu claims that Amit Shah cannot defeat the DMK, he is correct in one sense. However, it is not Amit Shah who will defeat the DMK, it is the people of Tamil Nadu who will bring about that change,' he added. Additionally, the DMK government was involved in a Rs. 4,600 crore sand mining scam, which has severely impacted the lives of the poor,' the home minister said. Shah further said that the BJP government in the Centre provided ₹6.80 lakh crore in 10 years to Tamil Nadu. 'And yet chief minister MK Stalin asks what has Centre done for Tamil Nadu,' he added.
