The City of Erie Blighted Property Committee has been working to fix unsafe and unappealing properties across the city, but the job isn't done quite yet.
The Blighted Property Committee met again Wednesday, declaring five more new properties as blighted.

The City of Erie Blighted Property Committee has been around for over 30 years, and since then, it's declared hundreds of properties as blighted across the city.
On Wednesday the committee met once again to rescind blights placed on five properties.
'Two of those were rehabilitation and renovation by the redevelopment authority and Erie Land Bank, properties that were conveyed to a developer for rehabilitation, and they completed those renovations and as part of that process, we've issued a certificate of completion and also the BPRC today rescinded the blight,' said Aaron Snippert, executive director of the City of Erie Redevelopment Authority.
Snippert said the designation on the other three properties was rescinded after being demolished.

The work is never done for the blighted property committee. After rescinding five properties around the City of Erie, they're adding five new ones to their list to work on, including one on German Street.
'Those five properties that were declared blighted, they'll be posted with a notice of blight on the property. We'll file a declaration of blight at the courthouse and then we'll look to try to see if the property owner will be responsive to that notice of blight,' Snippert said.
Snippert said property owners will have 30 days to respond to the notice, and if they don't respond, then city code enforcement or the Erie Land Bank will look into the property to see if it's worth acquiring down the road.
He said many of those property owners are out-of-town companies and investors who buy properties at low value in erie and leave them unattended.

American Airlines Announces Big TSA Change for Select Travelers

In late May, American Airlines announced a major change at Philadelphia International Airport. Those traveling through the popular airport will now "have a 25,000-square-foot oasis awaiting them in the A-West Terminal," as the airlines debuts two new lounges just before Memorial Day on May 22. The lounges are open to eligible AAdvantage members, qualifying OneWorld members and customers traveling in premium cabins on qualifying same-day flights, according to the announcement. Just a week later, American Airlines announced another big change for AAdvantage members at four major airports across the country. Starting May 29, AAdvantage members traveling through Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Salt Lake City International Airport will be eligible to enjoy a streamlined process at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) airport security checkpoints through TSA PreCheck Touchless ID. 'We're examining every aspect of the customer experience,' Heather Garboden, American's Chief Customer Officer said in a statement. 'TSA Precheck Touchless ID helps streamline our customers' travel experience and makes travel with us even more enjoyable. We look forward to it becoming available to even more customers in the coming months.' This program provides eligible members who choose to participate with the ability to move through security with ease at select airports. American Airlines described the new technology: "After an identity match compares a customer's image to photos they previously provided to the government, such as those in a passport, Global Entry or a visa card, the customer will be able to move through security faster with ease." Expansion will continue at airports across the system in the coming months in close collaboration with TSA, with a focus on hub Airlines Announces Big TSA Change for Select Travelers first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 2, 2025

Does APR matter if I pay off my credit card each month?

If you've ever owned a credit card before, chances are you're familiar with the term "APR," or annual percentage rate. For specifically credit cards, your purchase APR is essentially your interest rate, or the cost of borrowing money. But for those cardholders who pay their balance off on time and in full every month, their APR really doesn't matter. Let's see how managing your credit card payments can help you avoid interest entirely. Credit cards often have a few different types of APRs, but purchase APR is what many people are referring to when they talk about a credit card's interest rate. Purchase APR is essentially how much it costs to borrow money, which is what you're doing each time you use your card. For any borrowed funds that you don't pay back on time, your bank will charge you interest on the amount that remains unpaid. For example, if you had an unpaid statement balance of $1,000 on a card with a 20% APR, you would be charged an additional $16.57 in interest for that one billing cycle. You can see how credit card balances quickly balloon the longer they go unpaid. To find your card's APR, look at your monthly billing statement or contact your card issuer. It offers free credit card debt relief in 2011, Accredited Debt Relief has helped clients resolve over $1 billion in debt. Your purchase APR doesn't really matter if you pay your statement balance on time . Many credit cards have a grace period, which is the time between when your billing cycle ends and when your payment is due. Since credit cards only charge interest on outstanding balances, if you pay off everything you bought with your card for that period, you won't owe any interest. While grace periods are not required to be offered by cards, if they are, they must be for a minimum of 21 days. Paying off your card's balance on time and in full each month isn't just a good financial habit that can save you money on interest, but it also means you're maximizing the value you get from rewards. Let's look at a card like the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card, which comes with 5X miles on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and no foreign transaction fees. If you pay off your card's balance each month, you'll avoid the nearly 30% APR on purchases and balance transfers (!) and it also makes perks like an up to $120 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck that much more valuable. It's a real $120 credit; if you were also paying interest on a balance, it effectively cancels out, or subtracts from, that credit you're getting. The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card has a reasonable annual fee and earns flexible travel rewards, which makes it a great travel card for beginners or heavy travelers.$0 at the Transfer APR, 4% of the amount of each transferred balance that posts to your account at a promotional APR that Capital One may offer to you None We can apply the same thought process to a cash-rewards card like the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card. With this credit card, you can earn a flat-rate 2% unlimited cash rewards on purchases while paying no annual fee. If you use this card and pay your bill on time and in full each month, you're essentially getting 2% cash rewards of what you spend back to you for no extra fees. The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card is great if you want simplicity thanks to its flat-rate 2% unlimited cash rewards on purchases and $0 annual balance transfer fee of 3% for 120 days from account opening, then up to 5%, min: $5 3% Remember that rewards and welcome bonuses on new credit cards are really most valuable when you pay your credit card on time and in full every month. If you find yourself carrying credit card balances month to month, it's something you should address ASAP. It's likely that your credit card's APR is the highest interest rate you're being charged out of all your debts so it should be prioritized. Cut out other spending, like monthly subscriptions, until that balance is paid off entirely. And if it's a sizable amount of credit card debt, consider a balance transfer card where you transfer your outstanding balance to a credit card that has an introductory zero-interest period. That gives you time to make payments to your balance without accruing more interest. With the Citi Simplicity® Card, for example, you'll have a 0% intro APR for 21 months on balance transfers from date of account opening — nearly two years — to pay off your debt entirely (after, 18.24% to 28.99% variable APR). An intro balance transfer fee of 3% of the amount you transfer ($5 minimum) applies to transfers you make in the first four months, after that a fee of 5% of the amount you transfer applies ($5 minimum). Receive a 0% Intro APR for 21 months on balance transfers and for 12 months on purchases from date of account opening. Good to Excellent670–850 18.24% - 28.99% variable $0 None See rates and fees. There is an intro balance transfer fee of 3% of each transfer (minimum $5) completed within the first 4 months of account opening. Trump's $5m ‘gold card' visa set to launch in the coming days to help fast track rich immigrants

President Donald Trump's $5 million 'gold card' for rich immigrants is set to launch in the coming days. The website that allows wealthy people to apply for permanent U.S. residency is due to launch within a week, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told Axios. Initially the site, would allow people to register their interest in the scheme, the outlet reports. 'All that will come over a matter of the next weeks — not months, weeks,' Lutnick said at an event Wednesday. 'Everyone I meet who's not an American is going to want to buy the card if they have the fiscal capacity,' he claimed. Lutnick told the outlet that the program is aimed at those 'who can help America pay off its debt.' Trump initially floated the idea in February. He touted his card - which is his favorite color and not the typical 'green' card for immigrants - again in April as the markets were in meltdown following his announcement of global trade tariffs. 'For $5 million, this could be yours,' pitched the president. 'You know what that card is? It's the Gold Card, the Trump Card,' he added. Lutnick appeared on the All In podcast in March, claiming to have sold 1,000 gold cards, adding that Trump had estimated that they could sell one million cards in total. Lutnick said the concept was to let people buy the right to live in the U.S. and pay taxes on the income earned here. The Department of Government Efficiency team has been focusing on how to plug current U.S. government systems to verify travelers and immigration applications into a separate website for the gold visa. The domain was registered in late March, according to records published by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The site has subdomains connected to CBP, the State Department, and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service's Electronic Immigration System, the central gateway for processing visa paperwork. The Trump card visa is now also a part of the application for Global Entry, which is a program operated by CBP that allows pre-approved U.S. citizens, green card holders and travelers from some countries to save time at the airport by entering via a fast lane. Those who apply for Global Entry using a foreign passport are currently given an option to say that they have 'submitted an application for a Trump Card Visa,' according to Wired.
