Zawya19-05-2025

Egypt - Talaat Moustafa Group (TMG) is exploring new expansion opportunities on Egypt's North Coast, in the Gulf region, and across North Africa, the company has indicated, following a period of strong sales growth.
The Egyptian property developer reported record sales exceeding EGP 504bn (approximately $10bn) in 2024, building on a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 70% in value since 2017. In the first quarter of 2025, TMG announced a 25% year-on-year sales increase to EGP 77bn, up from EGP 62bn in the same period of 2024. This growth was achieved despite no new real estate projects being launched during the first quarter of the current year.
TMG Holding aims to sustain total sales for the 2025 fiscal year at levels similar to its 2024 performance. This target is expected to be supported by new project launches anticipated by year-end, including the mixed-use Sharm El Sheikh Bay development in the city of Sharm El Sheikh.
Earlier, at the beginning of May 2025, the group launched the second phase of its South Med project. The initial launch in 2024 saw over EGP 70bn in reservations secured on the first business day. Consequently, TMG's total sales year-to-date have surpassed EGP 160bn, representing a growth rate of 125%.
Talaat Moustafa Group said its acquisition of seven prominent historic hotels in Egypt, which added over 2,500 rooms to its hotel portfolio, has fortified a stable and predictable revenue stream in foreign currencies. TMG reported continued growth in revenues from recurring income activities during the first quarter of 2025, with total hotel revenues increasing by 50% to reach EGP 3.5bn in this period. Income from hotel operations and other recurring activities totalled EGP 5.6bn in the quarter, a 70% growth rate, and these revenues constituted approximately 60% of the group's total consolidated revenues during this period.
In terms of land bank expansion, Talaat Moustafa Group stated it is in advanced negotiations for a large-scale, mixed-use project in Iraq, covering approximately 14 million square metres. This follows land bank and project expansions undertaken in 2024, which included the group's entry into the Saudi Arabian market through an agreement for the Banan project (10 million square metres), in addition to the South Med project on Egypt's North Coast (23 million square metres).
Furthermore, the company is actively exploring expansion opportunities in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the broader Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, with initiatives aimed at enhancing TMG's profitability and generating cash flows in hard currencies.
Talaat Moustafa Group is also preparing for new growth opportunities on Egypt's North Coast. This strategy builds on the performance of its 'South Med' project and is supported by the opening of new destinations in the area, such as the recently inaugurated Ras El Hekma project.

Morocco's $3bln 'airports 2030' targets 80mln passengers

Morocco has approved a $3 billion plan dubbed 'airports 2030' which aims to increase the number of passengers using its airports to a record 80 million. The plan, outlined by Morocco's Transport Minister Abdul Samad Qayouh in parliament this week, involves expansion of existing facilities and the construction of new airports in preparation for the 2030 FIFA world cup games. Nearly half the targeted number of passengers will be achieved through the $1.5 billion expansion of Mohammed V airport in the Western Atlantic port of Casablanca, Morocco's largest city and business hub. Qayouh told parliament that the plan includes building a second airport in Casablanca, new airports in other cities and expansion of some existing facilities. "The plan is designed to increase the capacity of the country's airports to 80 million passengers in new airport projects and expansions, it also includes upgrading services and the infrastructure,' he said, quoted by Sabah Akadir newspaper and other Moroccan news outlets. Qayouh said the plan also comprises quadrupling the fleet of Royal Air Maroc from around 50 to more than 200 aircraft during 2023-2037. (Writing by Nadim Kawach; Editing by Anoop Menon)

Egypt aims to ease investor burdens in coming period: Finance Minister

Egypt - Ahmed Kouchouk, Egypt's Minister of Finance, reaffirmed the government's commitment to reducing the financial and procedural burdens on investors, emphasizing that the focus remains on expanding the tax base rather than increasing rates. In a statement released Monday, Kouchouk highlighted that ongoing reforms aim to alleviate both tax and non-tax pressures on businesses. This includes simplifying procedures and unifying collection authorities under a more efficient and investor-friendly system. 'We are implementing a practical and ambitious programme to reduce non-tax burdens and streamline obligations for our taxpayer partners,' he said, adding that a new package of incentives will be introduced in the next fiscal year to build on the current pro-growth tax trajectory. The minister noted that the government is working to rebuild trust with the business community, pointing out that the initial set of facilitative measures has already encouraged many new taxpayers to enter the system. Kouchouk revealed that preliminary results from the current incentive programme will be announced at a press conference before the end of the month. He also observed growing optimism within the business sector and among senior officials at the Egyptian Tax Authority. 'A 38% increase in tax revenues over the past ten months—achieved without imposing additional burdens—is a clear signal that we are on the right track toward fostering a climate of trust and cooperation,' he said.

Egypt poised to lead regional 5G expansion, eyes additional spectrum, SME inclusion: Ericsson

Egypt is making significant progress towards a nationwide 5G rollout, but must accelerate spectrum allocation and foster adoption among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to fully realise the technology's potential, according to Iwan Stella, Vice President and Head of Commercial Management & Strategy at Ericsson for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In an interview with Daily News Egypt, Stella welcomed Egypt's recent 5G licensing and network trials as 'important steps,' noting that modernisation initiatives and shared infrastructure are establishing a strong foundation. However, he emphasised the urgent need for more mid- and low-band spectrum to ensure reliable indoor coverage and scalable fixed wireless access (FWA) to meet both urban and industrial demand. 'Operators will only be able to deliver the low-latency connections required by Egypt's expanding industrial sector once sufficient spectrum is made available,' he said, stressing the importance of aligning with Egypt Vision 2030 through a phased rollout that balances cost efficiency with measurable milestones. While Egypt's digital infrastructure—including backhaul fibre networks and upgraded power systems—is largely 5G-ready, Stella noted that clear timelines for additional spectrum, particularly in contiguous mid-band ranges, will be critical for operators to complete network planning and accelerate deployment. He pointed to 'try-and-buy' initiatives and software-as-a-service (SaaS) models as practical methods to encourage 5G adoption among SMEs. 'Tiered service offerings—from basic connectivity for micro-enterprises to assured low-latency connections for advanced manufacturers—allow smaller businesses to scale services according to their needs,' Stella explained. Ericsson views Egypt's strong digital maturity and regulatory momentum as key differentiators in the region. Its strategy includes dual-band deployment—low-band for broad national coverage and mid-band for high-demand areas—combined with AI-powered network optimisation managed from Ericsson's Cairo-based Analytics Hub. To ensure a sustainable rollout, Stella called for transparent spectrum planning, robust cybersecurity frameworks, and incentives to encourage the adoption of energy-efficient network technologies—aligning both commercial goals and environmental responsibilities. With Egypt gaining international recognition for its broadband advancements, Stella urged policymakers to support the migration of legacy 2G, 3G, and 4G users to 5G-enabled devices. 'The quicker people and industries adopt 5G terminals—including FWA—the faster the return on investment. Once users experience high-performing 5G, they won't want to go back.' Despite cost sensitivity among SMEs, Stella believes innovations such as network slicing and edge services offer a practical bridge to private 5G capabilities without requiring heavy upfront investment. 'Egypt has all the ingredients to become a regional hub for 5G innovation,' he said. 'Ambitious infrastructure projects, a tech-savvy workforce, and a stable, secure spectrum policy can attract international R&D, cloud providers, and IoT manufacturers.' © 2024 Daily News Egypt.
