Suzlon's Co-Founder Girish Tanti Appointed Chairman of CII Renewable Energy National Committee & Manufacturing Council

PRNewswire
New Delhi [India], June 12: As India sharpens its focus on achieving a Viksit Bharat by 2047 and meeting its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, Mr. Girish Tanti, Co-Founder of Suzlon Group, has been appointed Chairman of the CII Renewable Energy Manufacturing Council and the CII National Committee on Renewable Energy for 2025-26. Under Mr. Tanti's leadership, CII Renewable Energy Committee & Manufacturing Council will focus on advancing a balanced and inclusive energy strategy that supports all renewable technologies.
Mr. Tanti, a founding member of Suzlon, kickstarted India's renewable energy movement over 30 years ago, much before it became a global imperative. He has been deeply passionate about driving India's clean energy transition and continues to lead efforts to make the country self-reliant and sustainable. He brings decades of global experience and policy influence to the table and is currently designated as Vice Chairman of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), Chairman of GWEC's Global Supply Chain Forum, Chairman of GWEC India, and Chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association (IWTMA).
Speaking on his appointment, Mr. Girish Tanti said, "A Viksit Bharat--a developed India--must be built on a foundation of clean, reliable, affordable and self-sufficient energy. This is a defining moment for our energy future, and we must move from ambition to accelerated action. Renewable energy must drive our growth--not just by reducing emissions, but by creating jobs, strengthening industries, and securing our energy needs. 'Make in India' will play a key role in enabling this transformation.
With India already achieving 222 GW of renewable capacity, our next challenge is to double this capacity in under six years to meet our ambitious 500 GW target. As the world watches, India must set a strong example. My focus will be on fostering robust collaboration between the government and industry to drive national goals while bolstering domestic manufacturing in renewables, including wind, solar, hydro, and bioenergy."

Middle East conflict hits stocks of crude oil-sensitive firms

New Delhi: Shares of crude oil sensitive sectors — oil marketing companies, aviation, paints, adhesives and tyres — declined on Friday following a spike in global oil benchmark Brent crude prices amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. The stock of BPCL fell by 1.90 per cent, Indian Oil Corporation dropped 1.78 per cent and HPCL declined 1.41 per cent on the BSE. In intra-day trade, BPCL tanked 6.11 per cent, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd tumbled 5.34 per cent and Indian Oil Corporation dropped 3.91 per cent. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation edged lower by 3.71 per cent and those of SpiceJet dipped 1.95 per cent. During the day, SpiceJet fell 5.64 per cent and InterGlobe Aviation dropped 5.62 per cent. Global oil benchmark Brent crude jumped 8.39 per cent to USD 75.20 a barrel. 'Geopolitical tensions are heating up, and it's impacting the oil market! Israel's airstrikes on Iran have sparked fears of supply disruptions, causing crude oil prices to surge. The worry is that the situation could escalate into a full-blown regional crisis, which would have significant implications for global oil supplies,' Navneet Damani, Group Senior VP, Head Commodities Research, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said.

Rupee falls 49 paise to 86.09 against dollar on Israel-Iran conflict

The Indian rupee depreciated 49 paise to close at 86.09 against the US dollar on Friday, weighed down by a surge in oil prices and strong dollar following Israel's attack on Iran. The local currency opened at 86.15 as against Thursday's close of 85.6. It fell to a low of 86.19 but recovered towards the closing. The rupee crossed the 86-mark for the first time in nearly three weeks. 'The Indian Rupee has experienced a notable depreciation against the US dollar and is one of the worst performers among Asian currencies. This decline is primarily attributable to substantial outflows of foreign funds, a pervasive risk-averse market sentiment, elevated global crude oil prices, and the strengthening of the US dollar as a safe-haven asset after Israel air strike on Iran,' Dilip Parmar, Senior Research Analyst, HDFC Securities said. Israel has struck Iranian nuclear targets, including Iran's primary uranium enrichment facility. The escalation in the Middle East tensions pushed WTI crude prices above $74, marking a 9 per cent surge, which added significant pressure on the rupee, said Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst – Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities. The near-term market attention will be directed towards geopolitical developments over the weekend and the impending monetary policy decisions by three major central banks next week. 'The bias for the USD/INR pair remains supportive, driven by sustained haven demand for the US Dollar and anticipated dollar demand from oil importers. Technically, the pair has support at 85.40, while resistance is observed in the range of 86.25 to 86.45,' Parmar said. Meanwhile, domestic equity market indices, Sensex and Nifty, declined on Friday amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. The BSE's 30-share Sensex lost 0.7 per cent, or 573.38 points, to close at 81,118.6. The index had tanked 1337.39 points to touch an intraday low of 80,354.59. The broader Nifty fell 0.68 per cent, or 169.6 points, to finish at 24,718.6.
