"Need to differentiate between race horse, wedding horse, and langda horse": Rahul Gandhi on plans to revamp party's Madhya Pradesh unit

India Gazette2 days ago

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) [India], June 4 (ANI): Seeking to revamp the party's Madhya Pradesh unit as part of party's Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday used the example of horses to differentiate between workers and leaders who are slogging for the party and those who are not and need to retire.
Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, first illustrated the difference between a 'wedding horse' and a 'race horse' and how state sometimes party leaders fit one for the other, resulting in total mismatch and electoral losses.
He also talked of 'unfit horses' and on the need for tired party leaders to make way for younger lot. He said those who cannot slog should not remain there as stumbling blocks.
'Now we have to differentiate between a race horse and a wedding horse and lame (langda) horse....The district president has come here, and there will be some of you who work for the Congress party with full strength and there will be some who are a little tired or who are not in a good mood, who are taking too much tension. Now we have to differentiate between a race horse and a wedding horse. Earlier, I used to say that there are two types. Kamal Nath had said that the Congress party sometimes sends a race horse to the wedding procession and sometimes makes the wedding horse stand in the race line. But there is a third category, which is a lame (langda) horse, so we have to differentiate. We have to retire the lame horse, so this change has to be brought,' he said.
Congress has faced successive electoral defeats in Madhya Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi talked of empowering the district presidents, making them a fulcrum of party's revival.
He gave an inkling of the work expected from the new district chiefs.
'The new district president will be different from the previous one...We will measure their performance in an objective way, whether votes are increasing in local body, MLA, and MP elections. Wherever there is an attack on Congress ideology, if a Dalit, Adivasi or backward class, poor general caste woman is beaten up or suppressed, if Congress party is standing there or not...whether there is a good relationship between worker and leader,' he said. Karnataka BJP Calls for Accountability in Stampede Tragedy

Bengaluru: BJP demands judicial inquiry, Karnataka Congress government, stampede accountability, B Y Vijayendra's statement, compensation for victims, public safety the wake of a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL 2025 victory parade near Chinnaswamy Stadium, Karnataka BJP President B Y Vijayendra has called for a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge, accusing the Congress-led state government of gross negligence and an obsession with public relations at the expense of public safety. Vijayendra's demand for accountability comes as the state grapples with the aftermath of the tragedy, with hospitals reporting a grim tally of casualties and the injured still under treatment. In a strongly worded statement on social media platform X, Vijayendra asserted, 'The stampede at Chinnaswamy wasn't an accident, it was a tragedy caused by the Congress government's sheer irresponsibility and PR obsession. I demand a judicial inquiry by a sitting High Court judge and Rs. 50 lakh compensation for each victim's family. The CM & his cabinet must be held accountable.' The BJP leader's call for a judicial probe reflects a broader political narrative of opposition to the Congress government's handling of the event. The tragedy has ignited a fierce debate over event management and public safety protocols, especially given the scale of the gathering, which drew an estimated 2.5 lakh people to the stadium and its vicinity. The tragedy has also prompted a response from the Karnataka government, which has ordered a magisterial inquiry but stopped short of agreeing to a judicial one. This distinction is crucial, as a judicial inquiry would involve higher judicial oversight and potentially more stringent accountability measures. The state has also announced plans to formulate a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for mega events, aiming to prevent future incidents.

RCB Victory Parade Stampede Causes Internet Storm

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government's celebratory zeal turned into a tragic nightmare as a stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 victory parade claimed 11 lives and injured 33 others near M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Congress-led administration, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, is now under intense scrutiny for its alleged insensitivity and negligence, with netizens and opposition leaders alike slamming the government for prioritising political mileage over public safety. The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many holding the government directly responsible for the preventable tragedy. RCB's first IPL title win in 18 years was a historic moment for fans, culminating in a victory over Punjab Kings by 6 runs on June 3. The Karnataka government which was seen eager to bask in the glory of Bengaluru's triumph, rushed to organise a victory parade within 12 hours of the win. It is a stark contrast to other IPL teams like KKR, MI, and CSK, which held their parades 2-3 days later with proper planning, and the Indian T20 World Cup team, which waited 5 days. The parade, which began at Vidhana Soudha and was meant to culminate at Chinnaswamy Stadium, drew an estimated 2-3 lakh fans, far exceeding the stadium's capacity of 35,000. The situation spiralled out of control when a small gate at the stadium was breached, leading to a deadly stampede. The outrage on social media has been palpable, with netizens demanding accountability from the Congress government. The opposition BJP has also seized the opportunity to criticise the government, with leaders like Amit Malviya labeling the incident as a result of "lack of basic administrative foresight" and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy calling it "unforgivable." The government's response has done little to quell public anger. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced Rs. 10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ordered a magisterial inquiry, but his statement, "Over two to three lakh people gathered. No one expected such a crowd," has been met with disbelief. Critics argue that such a turnout was entirely predictable given RCB's massive fanbase and the significance of the win. Deputy CM DK Shivakumar apologised for the overcrowding and cancelled the procession, but his earlier presence at the airport to greet the players has been cited as evidence of the government's attempt to politicise the event. The RCB victory parade stampede has exposed deep flaws in the Karnataka government's approach to public safety, with netizens and opposition leaders united in their demand for justice. The 11 lives lost and 33 injuries sustained are not seen as mere statistics but is a stark reminder of the cost of political insensitivity. For RCB fans, what should have been a moment of triumph has been overshadowed by tragedy, leaving a bitter taste in the wake of their long-awaited victory. The Congress-led Karnataka government now faces a reckoning, as Bengaluru mourns and the nation watches, demanding that such a preventable disaster never happens again.

Not sure if good relationship with Elon Musk will continue: Donald Trump

In his first public acknowledgement of tensions with Elon Musk, US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he's unsure whether their 'good relationship' will continue, following disagreements over a key tax bill and electric vehicle (EV) mandates. "I'm very disappointed with Elon. I've helped him a lot," Trump said. 'He knew the inner workings of the bill better than anybody sitting here. He had no problem with it—until he found out we're going to cut the EV mandate.' The remarks come days after Musk vocally opposed Trump's flagship tax legislation—dubbed the 'Big Beautiful Bill'—urging lawmakers via social media to reject what he described as a 'megabill' that would increase the national deficit and place a heavy debt burden on Americans. 'This bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!' Musk posted on X. False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it! — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) June 5, 2025 Musk's growing criticism Over the past week, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO has intensified his criticism, calling the legislation 'a disgusting abomination' and accusing the Trump administration of 'bankrupting America.' He also warned that the bill would worsen the federal deficit and impose 'crushing' debt on American taxpayers. Despite previously stating that he would step away from politics, Musk's recent activity on social media suggests a return to political activism—particularly when it comes to federal spending and EV policy. Behind-the-scenes friction Disagreements between Trump and Musk had been brewing behind the scenes, with sources noting tensions over the administration's tariff plans and federal agency cuts. Musk's vision for a leaner bureaucracy reportedly clashed with key figures inside the Trump administration. The rift widened after Musk stepped down from his role on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team last week, after spending 129 days advising on cost-cutting measures. White House holds firm Responding to the backlash, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump remains committed to the legislation. 'The President already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill,' she said. 'This is one, big, beautiful bill. And he's sticking to it.' The bill, which includes sweeping changes to taxation and spending, is expected to face a tight vote in the Senate later this month.
