Bezwada Bar Assn celebrates NTR birth anniversary
Vijayawada: The 102nd birth anniversary of the legendary actor, former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, and icon of Telugu self-respect, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, was grandly celebrated at the Bezwada Bar Association on Wednesday.
Legal luminaries and political figures gathered to pay their respects to 'Anna Garu.' Among those who offered tributes were Bezwada Bar Association President AK Basha, General Secretary KV Ranga Rao, AP Bar Council Member Chalasani Ajay Kumar, Telugu Desam Party Secretary Gottipati Rama Krishna, CPI State Secretary K Rama Krishna, prominent advocate Naraharasetti Narasimha Rao, and former Bezawada Bar Association Presidents Sampara Srinivasarao, Puppala Srinivasarao, and Penumala Rambabu. Senior and junior advocates also participated in the event.
Bezwada Bar Association president Basha spoke eloquently about NTR's contributions. He highlighted how NTR spread the dignity of the Telugu people across the nation and the world, making their presence known globally. Basha particularly emphasised NTR's role in empowering women by granting them property rights, thereby becoming a pillar of support for Telugu women.
AP Bar Council Member Chalasani Ajay Kumar lauded NTR's fame and achievements, praising his 'Two Rupees a Kilo Rice' scheme, which he described as a divine intervention for the poor.
Prominent advocate and Telugu Desam Party Secretary Gottipati Rama Krishna asserted that NTR was not just a great actor but also a great leader. Rama Krishna appealed for the Bharat Ratna award to be conferred upon NTR.

'We will return to power in 3 years, KCR will be CM again,' declares KTR
Dallas [USA], June 3 (ANI): Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K. Tarakarama Rao (KTR) claimed that the party will return to power in the state, and his father, K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), will be the Chief Minister again. Speaking at the occasion of Telangana Formation Day and BRS Silver Jubilee celebrations held at the Dr Pepper Arena (Comerica Centre) in Dallas, USA, KTR highlighted the achievements under the leadership of KCR. According to an official statement, speaking on Telangana Formation Day and remembering the struggle to statehood, KTR said, 'Many dream, but few make dreams reality. Just as you chased your dreams, in 2001, a man dreamed not for himself but for four crore Telangana people. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr B.R. Ambedkar's call to educate, organise, and agitate, and Martin Luther King Jr.'s 'I Have a Dream,' KCR, the lone warrior, began this journey, vowing, 'Stone me to death if I abandon this movement.' 'In three years, we will return to power, and KCR will be Chief Minister again,' he added. According to an official statement, quoting the timeless adage, 'Janani Janmabhoomischa Swargadapi Gariyasi' (Mother and motherland are greater than heaven), KTR began his address, urging NRIs to excel in their fields abroad while also giving back to their motherland. He called on them to invest in Telangana, stating that the state's journey proves nothing is impossible with determination, resolve, and sincerity. KTR vividly recounted the 14-year relentless struggle led by K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR), the architect of the Telangana movement, which turned the state into India's number one in just ten years. KTR showcased how Telangana, once neglected and downtrodden due to decades of discrimination under united rule, blossomed into a prosperous, verdant, and vibrant state under KCR's governance. Addressing challenges faced by Telugu students in the U.S. due to Trump-era policies, he assured that BRS would stand by them, announcing the formation of a legal cell to support and protect them in every way. As per the official statement, Rao said, 'The same enthusiasm seen in Telangana during its decennial celebrations is palpable in Dallas today. This is not just a celebration but an occasion to honour the sacrifices of martyrs and every individual who poured their all into achieving Telangana statehood.' KTR lauded the enthusiasm of the NRIs and remembered his earlier visit to Dallas. He said, 'When we decided to celebrate Telangana Formation Day, NRIs unanimously chose Dallas. Today, seeing your enthusiasm and thousands of you gathered here, I don't feel like I'm in America--I feel like I'm in Hyderabad. In 2015, I came to Dallas seeking investments for Telangana. With confidence and faith in our future, we fulfilled our promises and achieved even more, which fills us with pride.' Lauding the governance in BRS' stint in power, he said, 'Under KCR, we seized every opportunity to make Telangana number one. We may have lagged in votes recently, but never in loving Telangana. In power or opposition, for us, Telangana is first, India is first.' 'With schemes like Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bima, we prevented farmer suicides, setting a national example. KCR's rule turned migration into reverse migration. Today's wonders stem from KCR's vision--while others debated if Telangana would come, he planned what to do when it did,' he added. Narasimha Rao, saying he reshaped India's destiny and his legacy endures. On the economic front, he said, 'In 10 years, Telangana shone with riches, feeding the nation. With 2.5% of India's population, we contribute 5% to GDP--a pride for every Telugu child. From 4.5 lakh crore GSDP in 2014 to 15 lakh crore when we left power, no state matched our 238% growth. Per capita income rose from 1.12 lakh in 2013-14 to 3.56 lakh in 2023. NITI Aayog reports multidimensional poverty dropped from 13.18% in 2015-16 to 3.76% in 2023-24--a 10% reduction in eight years, unmatched in India.' 'KCR revolutionised irrigation. Kaleshwaram, the world's largest lift irrigation project, revived canals and the Sriramsagar Project. China took 16 years for the Three Gorges Dam; we built Kaleshwaram in four. It's not one barrage but three, with 19 reservoirs, 21 pump houses, 203 km of tunnels, 1,531 km of canals, and 141 TMC storage. Hyderabad: The BRS working president, K T Rama Rao, on Monday called upon Telangana NRIs to invest in their home state, also expressing confidence in the party's return to power within three years. KTR participated in the Telangana Formation Day and the party's Silver Jubilee celebrations in Dallas, USA. Thousands of NRIs, representing various regions eagerly gathered to hear Rao's address. Dr Pepper Arena, the meeting venue with a capacity of 7,000, was significantly oversubscribed, with more than 5,000 NRIs reportedly unable to gain entry. Rao hailed Telangana as the most successful 'startup state' in independent India's history, emphasising that no other state has achieved such remarkable progress within a decade. India-US ties ‘very personal', time of great opportunity for both countries: Usha Vance
Calling her relationship with India 'very personal', US Second Lady Usha Vance said that in broader terms, it is a time of great opportunity for the bilateral ties between the United States and India, something her husband, Vice-President J D Vance, also believes in. At a fireside chat on the sidelines of the USISPF Leadership Summit in Washington, DC, Monday evening, Vance also recalled their recent trip to India, and how it was special for their three children, who struck a rapport with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, putting him 'in the grandfather category'. 'It is a very personal relationship because I have family members who are in India, and I have many family members who are in the US. And I did grow up visiting India and visiting those family members, and they grew up visiting me. So that's always been a relationship that I've personally thought of as very important,' she said, during an interaction with USISPF Chairman John Chambers. 'More broadly, this is a time of great opportunity. And if my husband were here, he'd say the same thing,' she remarked. 'Obviously, the relationship has ebbed and flowed at times. There are times when one country's needs and one country's goals are different from the other. But in the next four years, and in the future, the fact that there is this established Indian-American population here and so many people in India who know the country and know the people who are here doing great things, having great opportunities, these personal ties actually have something to do with it,' she added. 'We followed radically different paths… converged' Born in San Diego to Indian-born Telugu-speaking professors, her father, Krish Chilukuri, is an aerospace engineer from IIT-Madras, while her mother, Lakshmi, is a marine biologist and now provost at one of the colleges in UC San Diego. The family moved to the US in the 1980s. Talking about her recent visit to India as the US' Second Lady, along with her husband and kids, she said, 'When we were visiting recently, I was struck by the number of people who came up to me to say how much they loved our country, how they visited family, how they visited just for pleasure, that they were hoping for a close relationship looking forward.' She said her parents moved to San Diego to pursue higher education. 'That's sort of what happened, as I think it does for a lot of Indian Americans. They come, they find a community and an educational institution, and they find a real home in those places,' she said, about her growing-up years. 'I grew up in a pretty Asian-American community, but we had a lot of family friends who were Indian-Americans. We had friends from all over as well, and everyone was really invested in being a part of this country, and pursuing the American dream for themselves and their kids,' she said. However, later, as she went to Yale, she said her 'life veered towards the East Coast, and I married someone who's from the eastern half of the country'. The couple met at Yale Law School, she said. 'We had followed radically different paths in life and converged in the same place. JD, of course, had grown up in Ohio. He had been in the Marine Corps as an enlisted Marine. And I had taken the diligent, progressive path of high school to college to graduate school and some jobs and to law school. And we have these really different backgrounds, but the reality is that we had so much in common,' she added. 'They are very into' PM Modi Coming back to her India trip, Usha Vance called it 'the trip of a lifetime'. 'My children had never been to India, with the pandemic and JD's entry into politics. And so they'd grown up just knowing so much about this country, the stories, the food, the relationships with grandparents and friends. But they had never actually seen it. So it was mind-blowing from their perspective. And then for me and JD, it just could not have been any more special. 'So when we were able to visit his home, they just sort of ran up. They were hugging him. He was just incredibly kind and generous to them. It was a very productive conversation for JD and the Prime Minister, of course. When we were at the Prime Minister's residence, our son was taken by the entire cart of mangoes that was available for him to eat, he announced to the Prime Minister that he thought he could maybe live there,' she recalled on a lighter note. But he dialled that back a little bit as he remembered how hot it had been earlier in the day, she said. While Ewan, their oldest child at 7, was taken by the sculptures in the temple that he visited, Vivek, their middle child, was very excited to meet elephants, peacocks, a camel and just any animal. 'And then our daughter, she's sort of along for the ride. She really enjoyed her time in an auto-rickshaw,' she said. Reading challenge Vance also spoke about her work and priorities as the Second Lady after she recently announced a reading challenge for children. 'I'm conscious that reading scores have dropped over time. And that is something lots of people are working to rectify, and I wanted to do something small to contribute to that,' she said. 'Secondly, we live in a world of distractions now. It's very easy to just pick up your phone all the time. It's pinging you. And that worries me. I do think that one of the things that is very special about being a human is that we have this capacity for sustained thought and reflection, and those produce very beautiful things, like the Taj Mahal that we visited.' Even as literacy will be a big focus of her efforts, the Vances are also starting to get involved in organising the Special Olympics in the US.
