On this day in 4977 BC, the universe was created according to astronomer Johannes Kepler, a founder of modern science.
Here is all that took place on this day across the world.
Kim Jong Un made history by crossing over to South
Imagine the most heavily armed border in the world, defended by soldiers who have all sorts of weapons at their disposal to protect their respective countries. Now, imagine crossing such a border. While it may be difficult for you to imagine such a situation, North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un did it on this day in 2018.
Creating history, he became the first leader to cross the border and enter South since the Korean War armistice in 1953. This symbolic moment took place in the truce village of Panmunjom within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), a heavily fortified area that has long separated the two nations.
As soon as South Korean President Moon Jae-in saw Kim come out, he walked to meet his counterpart at the border so that their handshake would be at the most symbolic of locations, each leader standing on his side of the military demarcation line that separates North from South, reported IndiaTV News.

Surrounded by bodyguards and other members of his delegation, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un emerged right on cue from a large building on the northern side of the border in the truce village of Panmunjom, walked down a wide flight of stairs and strolled confidently toward South Korean President Moon Jae-in to begin the historic meeting.
Smiling broadly and exchanging greetings, the two shook hands for a long time, exchanging greetings and looking from outward appearances like old friends. The historic meeting was part of a broader thaw in inter-Korean relations following months of rising tensions and missile tests from Pyongyang. The summit aimed to ease military tensions, foster reconciliation, and discuss denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In an unscripted and highly symbolic gesture, Moon then crossed into the North with Kim before they returned to South Korean territory to begin the summit.
The universe was created, according to Kepler
On this day in 4977 BC the universe was created, as per German mathematician and astronomer Johannes Kepler. On April 27, 1595, Kepler noted in his personal records this momentous belief that the universe was created by aligning a cosmic and divine order. He based this idea on a blend of astronomical observations and theological reasoning.
Kepler lived during a time when science and religion were not seen as mutually exclusive. He believed that God's design of the universe could be understood through mathematics and geometry. His work laid the foundations for modern celestial mechanics, but he also sought to harmonize scientific discovery with biblical narratives.
In his attempts to calculate the creation of the cosmos, Kepler used planetary alignments and biblical chronology, ultimately arriving at April 27, 4977 BC, as the universe's birthday. He based this on a complex combination of scriptural interpretation and astronomical data — particularly planetary conjunctions and models of the heavens.
Though modern science places the age of the universe at around 13.8 billion years based on the Big Bang theory, Kepler's date of April 27 holds historical importance. It highlights the fusion of scientific thought and theological interpretation that characterised the Renaissance.

Russia's Rosatom to lead consortium to build first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan
Russia's state nuclear corporation Rosatom has been tapped to lead an international consortium to build the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, the Central Asian country's atomic energy agency said on Saturday (June 14, 2025). Other proposals came from the state-owned China National Nuclear Corporation, as well as French and South Korean companies. 'We welcome Kazakhstan's decision to start the nuclear power plant construction project,' Rosatom's chief executive officer Alexei Likhachev said in a statement posted on Saturday (June 14, 2025) to the company's Telegram channel. 'The result will be the construction of a nuclear power plant based on the most advanced and efficient design in the world, which is based on Russian technology.' It was not immediately clear which other companies would participate in the Rosatom-led consortium, nor the cost and timeline of Rosatom's proposal. Mr. Likhachev said the plant would employ VVER-1200 Generation 3+ reactors, a technology developed in Russia and used both domestically and abroad. The two-reactor plant will be built in the village of Ulken, about 250 miles (400 km) northwest of Almaty, the commercial capital. Kazakhstan plans to have 2.4 gigawatts of nuclear capacity by 2035. The oil- and gas-rich nation of 20 million has not had any nuclear power generation capacity since 1999, when the BN-350 reactor on the shores of the Caspian Sea was decommissioned. The Kazakh atomic energy agency, established this March, said it had reviewed various proposals for reactor technologies and assessed them based on nuclear power plant safety, personnel training and other criteria. The agency 'determined that the most optimal and advantageous proposals for the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan were those received from the Russian company Rosatom,' it said. 'Currently, in accordance with Rosatom's proposals, work has begun on the issue of attracting state export financing from the Russian Federation.' Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Kazakhstan in November and discussed boosting energy and industry ties with the country, which exports most of its oil through Russia but is exploring alternatives. In an article for the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspaper, Mr. Putin wrote that Rosatom, already involved in some projects in Kazakhstan, 'is ready for new large-scale projects'. In October, Kazakhstan voted in a referendum in favour of constructing its first nuclear power plant. The plan, backed by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, faced criticism from some Kazakhs concerned by the involvement of a neighbour that has invaded another, Ukraine. Kazakhstan is one of the world's biggest uranium producers but currently relies mostly on coal-powered plants for its electricity, supplemented by some hydroelectric plants and the growing renewable energy sector. Rosatom, created by a presidential decree in 2007, says it is the only company in the world that has all technologies of the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining and nuclear research to building, fuelling and running nuclear power plants.

Donald Trump income: How much did the US President make in 2024?
US President Donald Trump's vast income was disclosed on Friday, revealing how much he earned through his cryptocurrency ventures, golf clubs, licensing and other ventures in 2024. The annual financial disclosure form, which appeared to cover the 2024 calendar year, shows the president's push into crypto added substantially to his wealth, but he also reported large fees from developments and revenues from his other businesses. Trump has put his businesses in a trust managed by his children. But the revelation of his income has opened him to accusations of conflicts of interest. Donald Trump reported more than $600 million in income from crypto, golf clubs, licensing and other ventures in a public financial disclosure report released on Friday. Overall, the president reported assets worth at least $1.6 billion, a Reuters calculation shows. 'President Trump, Vice President Vance, and senior White House staff have completed required ethics briefings and financial reporting obligations. The Trump Administration is committed to transparency and accessibility for the American people," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Reuters. The financial disclosure was signed on June 13 and did not state the time period it covered. The details of the cryptocurrency listings, as well as other information in the disclosure, suggest it was through the end of December 2024, which would exclude most of the money raised by the family's cryptocurrency ventures. The filing captures a period when the family was just starting to get into crypto but was largely still in the world of real estate deals and golf clubs. A meme coin released earlier this year by the President - $TRUMP - alone has earned an estimated $320 million in fees, although it's not publicly known how that amount has been divided between a Trump-controlled entity and its partners. In addition to the meme coin fees, the Trump family has raked in more than $400 million from World Liberty Financial, a decentralised finance company. The Trump family is involved, also, with a bitcoin mining operation and digital asset exchange-traded funds. In the disclosures, Trump reported $57.35 million from token sales at World Liberty and holding 15.75 billion governance tokens in the venture. The reported income ranges from crypto to real estate, and, on paper, it is largely tied to his stake in Trump Media & Technology Group, owner of the social media platform Truth Social. A Reuters calculation showed that in addition to assets and revenues from his business ventures, the president reported at least $12 million in income, including interest and dividends, from passive investments totalling at least $211 million. His biggest investments were in Blue Owl Capital Corp., an alternative fund manager, and government bond funds managed by Charles Schwab and Invesco. The disclosure showed income from various assets, including Trump's properties in Florida. According to the filing, Trump's three golf-focused resorts in the state—Jupiter, Doral, and West Palm Beach—plus his nearby private members' club at Mar-a-Lago, generated at least $217.7 million in income. Trump National Doral, the expansive Miami-area golf hub known for its Blue Monster course, was the family's single largest income source at $110.4 million. The income figures provided are essentially revenues, not net profits after subtracting costs. The disclosure underlined the global nature of the Trump family business, listing income of $5 million in license fees from a development in Vietnam, $10 million in development fees from a project in India and almost $16 million in licensing fees for a Dubai project. Trump also collected royalty money from various deals—$1.3 million from the Greenwood Bible, $2.8 million from Trump Watches, and $2.5 million from Trump Sneakers and Fragrances. Trump listed $1.16 million in income from his NFTs - digital trading cards in his likeness - while First Lady Melania Trump earned around $216,700 from license fees on her own NFT collection.
