Arab foreign ministers condemn Israel's ban on West Bank visit

Middle East Eye2 days ago

Foreign ministers from several Arab states have denounced Israel's refusal to allow their planned visit to the occupied West Bank this weekend.
The Jordanian foreign ministry said the ministers condemned 'Israel's decision to ban the delegation's visit to Ramallah (on Sunday) to meet with the president of the State of Palestine, Mahmud Abbas.'
The group, which included ministers from Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, was expected to attend alongside the Arab League's secretary-general.
Israel announced late on Friday that it would not permit the visit, using its control over the territory's borders and airspace to block the delegation.

UAE President congratulates new Polish president on winning election

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Monday congratulated opposition candidate Karol Nawrocki on winning the Polish presidential election. On social media platform X, the Emirati head of state said he looks forward to working with President Nawrocki to "build upon the strong ties between the UAE and Poland." In a victory for European conservatives inspired by US President Donald Trump, Nawrocki secured 50.89 per cent of the vote, election commission data showed. Nawrocki, 42, a newcomer to politics who previously ran a national remembrance institute, campaigned on a promise to ensure economic and social policies favour Poles. The UAE is Poland's leading partner in the region, cooperating in economic and security matters. At least 2,000 Poles live in the UAE, the highest in any Arab state. I extend my congratulations to Karol Nawrocki on the result of the Polish presidential election, and I look forward to working with him to build upon the strong ties between the UAE and Poland and drive further growth and development for our countries. — محمد بن زايد (@MohamedBinZayed) June 2, 2025

Arab ministers call for immediate halt to aggression on Gaza

Ministers from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, Palestine and Arab League have reiterated a call to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza and step up efforts to urge more countries to recognise the State of Palestine. During the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit Ministerial Committee on Sunday, the officials pushed for an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip and urged Israel to allow the immediate and unconditional entry of humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza. They reemphasised the need to fulfill the Palestinian people's right to an independent, sovereign state on their national territory, adding that the two-state solution is the only path to achieving just and comprehensive peace. The virtual meeting was attended by King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, Bahrain's Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Alzayani, Egypt's Badr Abdelatty, Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, his deputy Hussein Al-Sheikh, and Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa. It came after Israel blocked the committee's visit to Ramallah — a decision the committee said reflected Israel's arrogance and its violation of international law and legal obligations as an occupying power. The committee called on Israel to stop escalation in the West Bank, warning of the consequences of worsening the humanitarian situation and affirmed its full support to the Palestinian Authority, emphasising the need to accelerate reconstruction efforts.
