Maharashtra Day 2025: Mumbai Police issues traffic advisory for May 1
A detailed traffic advisory has been released by the Mumbai Police in advance of the Maharashtra Day Parade, which is set for May 1 at Shivaji Park in Dadar. To guarantee efficient operations and public safety throughout the event, a number of traffic laws and road closures will be in place from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm.
On April 26, the Mumbai police released an X post with information on designated parking, parking zones, traffic diversion, and public instructions. Due to increased security concerns, Mumbai Police also issued a preventive order on Monday that banned "any flying activities" in areas of central Mumbai, including the Shivaji Park area in Dadar, ahead of the Maharashtra Day celebrations on May 1.
Every year on May 1, people celebrate Maharashtra Day, also called 'Maharashtra Din'. This Thursday will mark the celebration of the day that the Marathi-speaking state of Maharashtra was established. Interestingly, it coincides with International Labor Day.
What is Maharashtra Day?
Given that it was on this day in 1960 that the Bombay State was divided, this day is extremely significant in the history of our nation. Maharashtra and Gujarat were created out of the state. The former included people who spoke Gujarati and Kutchi, while the latter included people who spoke Konkani and Marathi.
On this day, which is a state holiday, official and private events are planned to commemorate the creation of Maharashtra. This day is celebrated with parades, political speeches, and festivities.
Maharashtra Day 2025: Road closures and diversions
The vehicles other than invitees will not be allowed on Keluskar Road North or South. While access on Swatantraveer Savarkar Road between Siddhivinayak and Yes Bank Junction will be prohibited, S.K. Bole Road will function as a one-way route from Siddhivinayak Junction to Portuguese Church Junction.
Vehicles going to the Western Suburbs have to take a diversion through Raja Bade Chowk, Gokhale Road, L.J. Road, Portuguese Church, S.K. Bole Road and Siddhivinayak Junction. In the meantime, cars leaving Yes Bank Junction for South Mumbai should use Pandurang Naik Road, Raja Bade Chowk, L.J. Road, and Gokhale Road.

The procession will start at Shivaji Park's Gate No. 5, travel north on Keluskar Road, cross C. Ramchandra Chowk, turn left on Savarkar Road, and end at Naarli Baug.

2025 Maharashtra Day Parade: Airspace guidelines
Akbar Pathan, DCP (Operations), Mumbai Police issues a preventive order stating that, 'It is possible that, during the Ceremonial Parade and public programme on the occasion of Maharashtra Day at Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai the terrorist / anti social elements may try to use the air space for breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquillity and there may be grave danger to the human life, safety and damage to public property.'
On Maharashtra Day, the preventive order bans any flying within the boundaries of the Mahim, Shivaji Park, Dadar, and Worli Police Stations.

• Through Tilak Flyover, Kotwal Garden, N.C. Kelkar Road, Meenatai Thackeray Statue, Keluskar South Road, Gate No. 1, Shivaji Park, from South/Central Mumbai.

• Mahim Junction, Hinduja Hospital, Savarkar Road, Vasant Desai Chowk, and Shivaji Park Gate No. 1 are all accessible from the Western Suburbs (by Mahim Old Cadel Road).

Maharashtra Day 2025 Parade: Guidelines
• It is requested that those without a car pass park at the Kohinoor Parking Lots, which are located next to the Plaza Cinema on J.K. Sawant Road in Dadar (W).
• To help and direct commuters, police officers and signage will be positioned around the region. During the parade hours, the public is asked to comply and stay off the impacted routes. Under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, violators will be subject to fines.

‘Join hands to save this city': Aaditya Thackeray to Mumbaikars
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Monday launched the party's mobilisation campaign titled 'Ladha Aaplya Mumbaicha' (Fight for our Mumbai), where he expressed the need to fight for Mumbai on the lines of the historic Samyukta Maharashtra movement in the 1950s. 'They (the BJP) want to take away Mumbai from the Marathi manoos and gift it to Adani,' he said. 'Come and join the battle to save this city.' Aaditya was speaking at a gathering at Kalidas Auditorium in Mulund, where he made a presentation to show how lands across Mulund, Kurla, Malvani and Deonar had been allocated to the Adani group in the name of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. 'All Dharavi residents should get homes in Dharavi only and not elsewhere,' he said, adding that the BJP, to 'serve its master', wanted to hand over Mumbai to him. Hitting out at the BJP-Adani liaison, Aaditya said that to clean up the Deonar dumping ground for Adani's Dharavi project, the BMC would have to spend over ₹2,000 crore. 'And to recover this money, the BMC has proposed to levy a garbage collection tax on Mumbai's citizens,' he said. Referring to Eknath Shinde by his Thackeray-given moniker Bhrashtanath Mindhe (Corrupt and Subservient), he alleged that he had played a role in the BJP's plan to give Mumbai to Adani. Pointing out that Monday was the anniversary of Hindu king Chhatrapati Shivaji, Aaditya lamented that it was also a time when Mumbai, Maharashtra and the Marathi manoos were in danger. 'As they failed in their plan to separate Mumbai from Maharashtra, they are now conspiring to take it from the Marathi manoos by handing the city to the Adani group,' he said. Aaditya also pointed out how all his allegations regarding corruption in the BMC and infrastructure projects in Mumbai had turned out to be true. 'I was the first to raise my voice on the cement road scam,' he said. 'Today, we can all see the condition of the roads and the quality of work. In October 2024, I warned about corruption in the Thane-Borivali belt, and now the Supreme Court has forced the authorities to cancel the tender.' Aaditya clarified that his party had no personal conflict with anyone, including Adani. 'But if you charge at Mumbai, we will stand in front of you, we will fight and we will win,' he said.

Gurdwara on encroached land razed after HC order
Mumbai: In what is seen as a win for residents, an illegal religious structure (gurdwara) at the Joggers Park on Lokhandwala Back Road, Andheri (West) was demolished in the wee hours of Monday by those who had unauthorisedly built the structure in 2022. The action came following a legal battle waged by residents. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Joggers Park is used by residents regularly for jogging and walking. However, according to the BMC, taking undue advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic, some people initially started serving food packets outside the park and subsequently began operating a langar inside the park. Thereafter, they built an unauthorised religious structure within the Joggers Park, it said. According to an affidavit submitted earlier this year by the civic body, it found certain unauthorised constructions, and a show cause notice was issued. Subsequently, a speaking order was passed by BMC on May 29, 2024. Thereafter, the BMC demolished the structures but had left one structure, which was converted into a religious place, untouched. On May 2 this year, the Bombay High Court ordered the respondents to remove the structure. The repondents included Celebrations Sports Club/Samarth Nagar Lokhandwala Complex Co-Operative Housing Societies Association Limited, Punjabi Association of Lokhandwala and Sanjha Chula Guru Ka Langar Trust. Lokhandwala Joggers Park Association secretary, Anuj Mittal, said, "It is a victory not just for legality, but for the citizens' right to reclaim public space. The issue was never religious, but against unauthorised occupation of a public park. The structure was demolished by the encroachers themselves late Sunday night. We residents waged a sustained legal battle right from December 2023, by filing a PIL in the Bombay High Court. " Mittal said , "The Supreme Court too dismissed the appeal of the encroachers'" Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit and activist, said, "The outcome is an untiring effort of citizens of Oshiwara and Lokhandwala. Land grabbing in the name of God should not be allowed, besides gardens are meant for recreation and not for religious purposes. More importantly, this is an open space. "

India's first envoy to Bolivia has a Gujarat connection, is a native of Okha
Ahmedabad: Rohitkumar Vadhwana, 44, made history when he was recently appointed as the first ambassador to the Plurinational State of Bolivia. He heads India's first mission in the South American country known for its natural resources. "Now, I am in La Paz, tasked with setting up an embassy from the ground up," explains the envoy with a Gujarat connection, the scale of the job evident in his voice. "First, we set up the office and recruit staff. It's a matter of laying the foundation of the Indian mission," says Vadhwana, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of the 2010 batch with an illustrious career. His path has taken him from Embassy of India in Iran to Indian High Commissions in the UK and Kenya. He also had a stint as deputy permanent representative to the UNEP and UN-Habitat during his tenure in Nairobi. Speaking to TOI about his 'unconventional' journey from the coastal town of Okha to the highlands of La Paz, he said, "I did not know about the Union Public Service Commission exams till I graduated in 2003. In Porbandar, he earned his LLB degree from Saurashtra University and also pursued an MA through distance learning. "It was advice from a well-wisher that put me on the path to becoming a civil servant. I enrolled at the Sardar Patel Institute of Public Administration (SPIPA) in 2004-05 and other organisations for preparations," he said. In Ahmedabad, while he was preparing for his career in civil service, he also achieved a personal milestone – he met Femida Shaikh, the love of his life, and the couple eventually married. Vadhwana even took a year's break to address challenges of their inter-religious union. "I want to promote India's soft and hard power in the country," he says. "It is significant today as Bolivia celebrates its 200 years of independence this year, and India opening a diplomatic mission here is a symbolically high point in bilateral relations." The last fiscal year saw India exporting automobiles and pharmaceuticals to Bolivia and importing gold and fertilisers from Bolivia. It is trade of about $2.3 billion, which fell to less than half a billion dollars mainly due to the restriction of gold export from Bolivia, indicate official sources. "As a mission, we are committed to increasing bilateral trade," he said. "India is keen explore collaborations in critical sectors such as infrastructure, mining, minerals, and energy."
