'Gulf of Mexico' is now 'Gulf of America' for US Google Maps users
Google Maps changed the 'Gulf of Mexico' name once it was officially updated in the U.S. Geographic Names System.
Heads up — have you heard the name Florida is now a thing of the past, along with the Gulf of Mexico (in the United States)?
In an attempt to poke some fun at the renaming of the Gulf of America by President Donald Trump, the official X account for Moon Pie announced they were making some geographical changes as well.
"Thanks to recent geographical updates, we are excited to announce that the land mass previously known as Florida will now be referred to as MoonPieTown," the tweet says, adding for those to enjoy their marshmallow sandwiches and not think too much about it.
Made by Chattanooga Bakery Inc. in Tennessee, the company has been known for its eccentric X account over the years. According to Buzzfeed, the account is notorious for its absurdist humor, sassy remarks and even little political jabs.
What is a 'Moon Pie'?
A classic moon pie consists of two round Graham crackers with marshmallow filling in the center, dipped in chocolate or another flavor coating. Think of it as a literal marshmallow sandwich.
The popular snack was invented by the bakery back in 1917 after a coal miner asked their traveling salesman for a snack as "big as the moon." Over the years, it has grown a dedicated following, seeing an annual festival for its combo with RC Cola and an eating competition.

Since this is the internet, the replies to Moon Pie's tweet were mixed. While many users played into the joke, others shared their disappointment and a few even vowed to never have another Moon Pie in their lives.
Is the 'Gulf of Mexico' officially the 'Gulf of America' now?
Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum announced that the name had officially been changed from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on Feb. 9.
"It's official! Congratulations @POTUS on the Gulf of America! @Interior has implemented your instruction from the Executive Order on Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness. Another big win for President Trump's agenda to Make America Great Again," Burgum posted on X.
In the executive order signed Jan. 20, Trump said the interior secretary shall rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America within 30 days. The Department of Interior beat the Feb. 19 deadline by 10 days.

Marching bands, floats and revelers festooned in rainbows and sparkles are expected to fill the streets of Washington on Saturday for one of the world's largest L.G.B.T.Q. festivals. The city holds a local Pride parade annually. But this year's event will be much bigger, as Washington hosts the WorldPride Parade, which attracts visitors from around the world. Sydney hosted it last time, and Amsterdam is up next. This year's location was decided before the 2024 election that brought Donald J. Trump back to the White House, which sits less than half a mile from where the parade's route will culminate on Saturday. The parade is not expected to attract as many people as organizers had hoped, with some international L.G.B.T.Q. groups deciding not to participate. Momentum for the event began to slow shortly after Mr. Trump's inauguration. Mr. Trump has issued executive orders restricting gender identities on travel documents and barring transgender people from serving in the military. The beats from D.J.s thrummed. Brass bands boomed. Bars and restaurants bustled. Sequins, feathers and fans that opened with a thwack were everywhere. And to organizers' relief, a cold morning rain ceased just in time for Saturday's WorldPride parade in Washington, D.C., making way for a sticky heat that seemed to rise off every surface. Soon, the air smelled like sunscreen. Revelers and those trying to sell them things agreed the celebratory atmosphere was vital for the L.G.B.T.Q. community and the nation's capital itself. 'This Pride is very much needed,' said Fred Rogers, 31, who lives in Fredericksburg, Va. 'We all need a chance to show the world that we are still here, and we're not going anywhere.' Amid the joy and celebration, there was still an undercurrent of anger and worry. The parade route wound its way to less than a third of a mile from the White House, and President Trump's moves to curb the rights of the L.G.B.T.Q. community weighed heavily on some of the paradegoers and prompted other people not to attend at all. Ryan Bos, executive director of the nonprofit Capitol Pride Alliance, which organizes the city's annual Pride events, including this year's global one, said in an interview Saturday that planners had originally expected three million attendees over the three-week WorldPride festival, but the actual turnout fell short of that. Bill Maher has waded in on the rift that has emerged between President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, comparing it to Blake Lively's headline-grabbing, It Ends With Us legal drama. Musk and Trump's close relationship imploded this week as the tech mogul, after resigning from his White House role, publicly denounced the president's flagship spending bill and accused him of ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The fallout was always going to be top of the order for Real Time with Bill Maher. 'When you think about it, the richest man in the world and the most powerful man in the world, it's like Godzilla versus King Kong, if Godzilla was on ketamine and King Kong had a comb over,' the comedian said on Friday's episode. He then joked that the two were 'so close, it was like Brangelina or Bennifer,' referencing Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie and Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's respective former relationships. 'They had their couple name: E-lump,' Maher quipped. Maher went on to joke that the stakes of the feud were 'so high because the winner faces Blake Lively.' Lively is famously embroiled in a bitter legal battle with her It Ends With Us co-star and director Justin Baldoni. It was reported on Tuesday that Lewis Liman, the judge who is overseeing the lawsuit, has decided that Lively's claims for emotional distress would be thrown out. Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, two of Lively's lawyers, called the filing from Baldoni's team 'a press stunt'. They told Variety in a statement: 'The Baldoni-Wayfarer strategy of filing retaliatory claims has exposed them to expansive new damages claims under California law, rendering certain of Ms Lively's original claims no longer necessary. Ms Lively continues to allege emotional distress, as part of numerous other claims in her lawsuit, such as sexual harassment and retaliation, and massive additional compensatory damages on all of her claims.' Last month, Baldoni's team withdrew a subpoena that would have called on Taylor Swift to testify in the trial, which is scheduled to begin on March 9, 2026.
