Atlantic Beach investigating multiple reports of a coyote attacking people
The City of Atlantic Beach said they're investigating reports of a coyote biting a person Tuesday and another incident where a person was bitten Wednesday morning.
A third person was attacked by a coyote Wednesday, but not bitten because a dog fended off the animal, the city posted on social media.

'The City of Atlantic Beach considers the reports to be credible,' the social media post states.
The incidents occurred on or near Begonia Street. The city said it has reported the incidents to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
'This is a serious situation. It's important for everyone in Atlantic Beach, especially in the Begonia Street area, to follow these guidelines carefully,' the post states listing the following instructions:

• Immediately report all coyote sightings and incidents to 911. Provide as much detail as possible about the location, time, and what you observed. This is especially important given the recent attacks.
• Be extra vigilant and pay close attention to your surroundings, particularly during dawn and dusk.
• Keep pets inside.
• Secure all potential food sources: o Don't leave pet food or water outside. o Make sure garbage cans are tightly sealed. o Pick up any fallen fruit from trees in your yard. o Never feed wildlife.
• Haze any coyotes you encounter to make them feel unwelcome: o Make loud noises like shouting, clapping, or banging pots. o Try to look bigger by waving your arms above your head. o Throw small objects in the coyote's direction. o Use noisemakers such as whistles or air horns.
• Closely supervise children.
• Check your property for potential coyote hiding spots, such as under porches or sheds, and consider trimming low-lying vegetation.
• Do not approach or feed coyotes. This can make them lose their fear of people and become bolder.
• Do not run from a coyote. Running might trigger its chase instinct. Instead, stand your ground and try to haze it.
• Do not leave small children or pets unattended outdoors.
• Do not assume coyotes are harmless. Even if they seem curious or playful, they are still wild animals and can be unpredictable.
• Do not try to capture or handle a coyote yourself. Leave this to trained animal control professionals.

Soldier killed pregnant wife with machete, dismembered her in HI, officials say
A soldier stationed in Hawaii admitted to killing and dismembering his pregnant wife in July 2024, Army officials said. Pfc. Dewayne Arthur Johnson II pleaded guilty during a court-martial in Hawaii to voluntary manslaughter and other charges in connection with the deaths of his wife, Mischa Johnson, and unborn child, according to a June 5 news release from the Army. Pfc. Johnson was ordered by a military judge to serve 23 years behind bars, which is the maximum, officials said. The 29-year-old also is to be reduced in rank and dishonorably discharged, according to officials. Mischa Johnson was six months pregnant when she was reported missing last summer from Oahu's Schofield Barracks, McClatchy News previously reported. In February, the Army Office of Special Trial Counsel referred several charges and specifications against Pfc. Johnson, according to a news release at the time. That meant he was headed toward a military trial. Under his plea agreement, the cavalry scout 'admitted to killing his wife and unborn child in the heat of passion by striking (his wife) in the head with a machete,' officials said. The couple had been fighting, 'and then things escalated to violence,' according to officials. Pfc. Johnson 'also provided specific details of his actions following their deaths, to include dismembering the bodies with a chainsaw and then using his car to transport the remains to a dumpster on Schofield Barracks,' according to officials. The remains 'have never been found and are presumed to have been transported to the island's trash incinerator,' officials said. Pfc. Johnson reported his wife missing about two weeks after he killed her, officials said, 'and (he) even participated with community search parties that spanned the island to look for her.' He was linked to the killing through DNA, blood and other evidence in their home, according to officials. Pfc. Johnson apologized during court proceedings, saying, 'My wife didn't deserve that. She wasn't trash,' Hawaii News Now reported. He also said that, 'I failed as a husband. I failed as a father and I failed as a man. … I'll forever be sorry,' per the outlet. Pfc. The 20-second video, shared exclusively with PEOPLE through Whitney Decker's attorney Arianna Cozart on June 6, was made as a Father's Day tribute to Travis Decker, Cozart says. The video is filled with a slideshow photos of Travis, Whitney, and their daughters, Paityn Decker, 9, Evelyn Decker, 8, and Olivia Decker, 5, while Pharrell Williams' song "Happy" plays. It's unclear when exactly the video, which has a TikTok logo, was posted online, since Whitney's account is now private. Travis is suspected of killing the girls, who were found dead on June 2 near the Rock Island Campground in Chelan County, Wash., where his pickup truck was also recovered. The sisters were reported missing on May 30 after they had not returned on time from a 'planned visitation' with Travis, according to police. "Travis was a present and active father up until the end — still attending the girls' soccer games, dance, and theater productions," Cozart said in an emailed statement to PEOPLE on June 6. "Although Travis was struggling with his own mental health, he was a good co-parent, always communicating frequently with Whitney up until Friday evening when the girls went missing." According to Cozart, Decker and Whitney were married for a little over seven years and "his mental health struggles, including his feelings of isolation, paranoia, and Borderline Personality Disorder led to the crumbling of their marriage in 2022." The attorney notes that Travis, who was an Army veteran, was seeking mental health care but was unable to obtain it. Whitney later sought limitations to his parenting time, as explained in a September 2024 parenting plan filed in Chelan County Superior Court and viewed by PEOPLE. She claimed in a separate filing, also viewed by PEOPLE, that Decker had "neglected his parental duties towards a child" and "has a long-term emotional or physical problem that gets in the way of his ability to parent." He'd been granted visitations to visit his daughters for three hours on Fridays and eight hours every other weekend, as long as he stayed in Wenatchee Valley, per the parenting plan filing. He was not granted overnight visits. The schedule was only temporary due to the court process, Cozart says. In the filing, Whitney also asked that Decker be evaluated for anger management/domestic violence, and have a full psychiatric evaluation by a licensed psychiatrist to include any potential diagnoses. During the June 3 sentencing, Dewayne offered an apology to Mischa's family, his own family and colleagues on his base, Hawaii News Now reported. 'My wife didn't deserve that. She wasn't trash,' he said. 'I hate myself for what I did, every day.' Mischa's remains and the remains of her unborn child have never been found, according to the statement from the U.S. Army. Both of their remains are presumed to have been transported to Hawaii's trash incinerator. 'While no amount of confinement will ever be able to truly ease the pain of the loss of Ms. Johnson and her unborn child for her family and friends, it is my hope that Pfc. Johnson's admission of guilt and the information he provided as a part of the plea agreement can provide some element of closure,' Lt. Col. Nicholas Hurd, a prosecutor for the Seventh Circuit in the U.S. Army, said in a statement. Dewayne didn't report Mischa missing to authorities until two weeks after he killed her, according to the U.S. Army statement. He even participated in community search parties across Hawaii to look for her.
