Healthcare firm Totally collapses but divisions sold

The Derby-based healthcare firm – which lost the NHS 111 support contract in February this year – has appointed Ernst & Young partners Tim Vance and Sam Woodward as joint administrators after failing to secure bids or strategic investors for the entire firm.
It said that following the appointment, the sale of its selective care and corporate wellbeing subsidiaries, as well as the urgent care division, was completed to rival PHL Group.
'This transaction sees the continued and uninterrupted provision of all services previously delivered by the group,' Totally said.
Totally employed more than 1,400 employees, according to its 2023-2024 annual report.
The group added: 'PHL Group will make separate announcements shortly, including communication with the customers, suppliers and employees of the elective care and urgent care divisions, and the corporate wellbeing business, which are all continuing to provide all services as normal following the transaction.'
The company's failure comes after a difficult past year, with the firm losing the NHS 111 contract worth £13 million and then revealing last month it was facing a potential medical negligence claim related to an incident in January 2018.
At the time, it warned the size of the liability for the claim could be more than the £10 million claim limit on its insurance policy.
It launched a strategic review to look at options, including the sale of subsidiaries 'receiving strategic investment or undertaking some other form of comparable corporate action'.
Shares in the firm plummeted at the time.
On June 6, it announced its intention to appoint administrators after the review had failed to see any 'solvent' offers for parent firm Totally and suspended its shares from trading on London's junior Aim market.
PHL – the buyer of its trading divisions – was launched in 2009 and runs services in the UK and overseas, including integrated urgent care, urgent treatment centres, surgical insourcing, custody healthcare, ADHD services and general practice.

NextEra CEO says renewables needed as bridge to expanding gas power

WASHINGTON, June 10 (Reuters) - Renewable energy sources like wind and solar power are needed to meet rapidly growing energy demand in the United States amid near-term obstacles to increasing natural gas capacity, said NextEra CEO John Ketchum on Tuesday. The head of the Florida-based power producer said at the Politico Energy Summit that competition and high costs to obtain gas turbines, a construction labor shortage, and the costs associated with tariffs mean that it will take at least seven years to get new gas-fired power plants online. "We need a bridge to get ourselves to 2032 when that gas shows up ... And when that gas shows up, it's going be three times more expensive than it's ever been," Ketchum said. "If we take renewables off the table, we are going to have a real power shortage problem in this country." U.S. House lawmakers narrowly passed a budget reconciliation bill last month that would phase out clean energy tax credits, slash spending on renewables, and claw back other climate-related funds. The House bill, which is now being debated by the Senate, shortens the window for developers to start and complete new clean energy projects to qualify for tax credits, and makes the incentives unworkable, Ketchum said. Ketchum's comments reverse an oft-repeated defense of natural gas in the fossil fuel industry during previous administrations seeking to fight climate change that had framed the fuel as a bridge to a renewables-driven carbon-free energy system. Trump opposes renewable energy subsidies and wants to expand production of oil, gas and coal. He has also declared an "energy emergency" to spur more fuel and electricity production, in part to meet growing demand for power for data centers and artificial intelligence.

More info A major homes development that also includes a new link road has got underway. Anwyl Homes has broken ground on a development of 235 new homes in Mold. The Ewloe-based family-run homebuilder is set to create an estate - named Dol Derwen - on the edge of the town. A new road will also be formed through the site linking Gwernaffield Road to Denbigh Road. Flintshire council gave it the go-ahead last year. Council officers and the planning committee backed the proposals despite some local opposition. Community leaders had voiced fears that the scheme could add to problems with traffic and flooding in the area. Graeme Gibb, sales director at Anwyl Homes Cheshire and North Wales said: 'This location offers an attractive setting within convenient distance of everything the thriving market town of Mold has to offer; including several supermarkets, independent shops, restaurants, cafes and highly regarded schools, including both English and Welsh language high schools. With work now underway we're expecting that interest to grow. The first homes will be released for sale towards the end of the summer.' (Image: Copyright Unknown) The 28-acre site was allocated for housing in Flintshire County Council's adopted local plan. It will feature 94 affordable homes (40% of the total development) alongside 141 private sale homes. Across the development there will be a range of one, two, three and four-bedroom designs. As part of the planning agreement, Anwyl will contribute towards the local community, including more than £37,500 towards improvements at Ysgol Bryn Gwalia. There will be a play area and multi-use games area for residents and the wider community to enjoy. Graeme added: 'To encourage biodiversity on site we'll be creating habitats for local wildlife through new native planting, the retention of mature trees and hedgerows, and the installation of bird and bat boxes.' The new road being created between Denbigh Road and Gwernaffield Road will also enable Pool House Lane to become a walking and cycling route.
