Title: 'We saw people on the road crying. Others were screaming, asking for help'
Content: James Cruzat, a local business owner who was at the street festival, says he heard a car rev its engine and then 'a loud noise, like a loud bang' that he initially believed might have been a gunshot.
'We saw people on the road crying. Others were like running, shouting or even screaming, asking for help. So we tried to go there just to check what was really actually happening until we found some bodies on the ground. Others were lifeless, others like, you know, injured,' Cruzat told AP.
'It was terrible to see that kind of incident, that situation. It was heartbreaking,' Cruzat said.
'I couldn't even imagine that it's actually happening in real life because normally we see that on TVs or movies. But when you are in that kind of situation, it was really shocking, like you couldn't think really, really well. You couldn't do anything but to pray for them.'

Title: Deadly incident comes ahead of election day
Content: Here is a reminder that the deadly car ramming occurred just two days before Canada's parliamentary elections.
A record 7.3 million of Canada's 28.9 million eligible voters have already cast early ballots over the Easter weekend, a 25 percent increase compared with 2021.
Prime Minister Mark Carney triggered Monday's vote last month as he looked to build on his Liberal Party's momentum since the start of the year. Its support has risen since Trump began his second term as US president, started a trade war and threatened to make Canada the 51st US state.
The party was previously led by Justin Trudeau, who formally stepped down as prime minister on March 14 to allow Carney to take up the post.

Suicide bomber killed in Uganda's capital: Army

Two people who the Ugandan army describe as 'armed terrorists' have been killed in the capital, Kampala, as the country marks Martyrs Day - a Christian celebration to commemorate the faithful who died in the 19th Century. A counter-terrorism unit 'intercepted and neutralized' the two, one of whom was a female suicide bomber, in the upmarket suburb of Munyonyo, army spokesperson Chris Magezi said. The incident took place near the Roman Catholic Munyonyo Martyrs' Shrine, where a group had gathered to pray, local media reported. Reports also cited an explosion, with an eyewitness telling Uganda's Daily Monitor newspaper that the blast occurred as the two approached the church on a motorcycle. The army spokesperson did not confirm the blast, but added that the authorities were on 'heightened alert'. One of those killed was a female 'suicide bomber laden with powerful explosives', Col Magezi said in a post on X. Footage from Uganda's NBS Television showed security and forensics personnel at the scene of the incident, after having sealed off the area. Col Magezi told Reuters that it was believed the two people were linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), an affiliate of the Islamic State (IS) group. (Agencies)

Al-Qaeda linked group says it carried out huge attack on Mali's army

BamakocTypeface:> An al-Qaeda linked group said it carried out a major attack on the Malian town of Boulikessi, and seized control of an army base. More than 30 soldiers were killed in Sunday's attack, according to sources quoted by the Reuters news agency, however that figure has not been confirmed by the authorities. On Monday the same group, Jama'a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM), said it targeted the military in the historic city of Timbuktu, with residents reporting hearing gunfire and explosions. In a statement responding to Sunday's attack, Mali's army said it 'reacted vigorously', before 'withdrawing' - suggesting a tactical retreat. The attacks, the latest sign of collapsing security in Mali and the wider Sahel region, came after the United States Africa Command warned about growing efforts by various different Islamist militant groups which operate in the Sahel to gain access to West Africa's coastline. Two killed as light aircraft hits house near Germany's Dusseldorf

dpa Dusseldorf A light aircraft crashed into the terrace of a residential building near the German city of Dusseldorf on Saturday, killing two people including the 71-year-old female pilot, according to police. There were only about 4 kilometres left to the small regional airport in Mönchengladbach, but the pilot reported to the tower that she was struggling with technical problems. It was likely engine problems, and the woman from Dusseldorf could no longer keep her aircraft in the air during the approach. Around 12 pm (1000 GMT), she crashed her plane onto the terrace of a detached house in the town of Korschenbroich between Dusseldorf and Mönchengladbach. She herself died in the incident, along with a second person, according to the police. Only debris and remnants of the tail were left of the aircraft. A fire immediately broke out at the crash site. The fire brigade dispatched around 50 personnel, a major operation, a spokesman for the fire brigade control centre said. The crash site was cordoned off over a wide area. The officers quickly brought the fire under control. Images showed the tail of the destroyed aircraft protruding from the front garden of the house, and firefighters wearing breathing masks extinguishing the blaze. The facade of the house was severely damaged and bore black smoke marks. Three people were registered in the house, two of whom were not at home at the time of the accident, police said. They later reported to the police. It is suspected that the missing third person is the second victim, but the identity is still being investigated, said a spokesman. The pilot took off in the morning from the village of Alkersleben near Erfurt in the central state of Thuringia. She had already covered several hundred kilometres when the accident occurred.
