Arrest warrant issued in royal false claim case

The Sun22-05-2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here issued an arrest warrant for a woman after she failed to appear in court to face charges in connection with a case of initiating false communication against a member of the royal family.
The order was issued by Judge Norma Ismail after allowing the application by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhammad Amir Hanif Ahijman to issue an arrest warrant against Persana Avril Sollunda, 43.
Earlier, Muhammad Amir Hanif said he was informed by the investigating officer that Persana Avril, who resides in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, was supposed to be charged today but did not appear in court.
'Previously, the investigating officer had applied for a court summons from the Magistrate's Court here to order Persana Avril to appear to face the charges against her, and she (Persana Avril) herself had signed the summons on April 29.
'However, given that she did not appear in court today, the prosecution requests an arrest warrant be issued against her,' said Muhammad Amir Hanif.
Norma then set June 19 for mention of the arrest warrant against Persana Avril.
It is understood that Persana Avril will face charges under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act for allegedly uploading a fake marriage certificate with intent to annoy others.
She is accused of committing the act on a TikTok account in February this year.
Last March, she was detained for questioning by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters and was subsequently released.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Magistrate's Court on Friday (June 20) sentenced a food delivery rider to one year's jail and ordered him to be given one stroke of the cane after he pleaded guilty to abetting in defrauding a woman over a loan application for a mobile phone, four months ago. Magistrate Illi Marisqa Khalizan ordered Salman Abdullah, 31, to start serving his sentence from Friday. Salman admitted to abetting a 32-year-old woman in deceiving a credit assessment officer into approving a loan application worth RM8,329 to obtain a mobile phone from a mobile phone distribution company by submitting a fake salary slip from a non-existent company and using a forged Malaysian identity card at a shopping mall on Feb 1. Deputy public prosecutor Syafika Azwa Fikri asked the court to impose a deterrent sentence, but counsel Edwin Tomas pleaded for leniency, saying that his client has no fixed income and has to support four young children. – Bernama

High Court upholds senior cop's one-year jail sentence for graft

KUANTAN: The High Court here today upheld the jail sentence and fine imposed on a senior police officer convicted of accepting a RM5,000 bribe in connection with a drug case seven years ago. Judge Datuk Mohd Radzi Harun dismissed the appeal by Assistant Superintendent Hasbullah Ali Alias, 48, against the one-year jail term and RM25,000 fine meted out by the Sessions Court here on Dec 15, 2023. Hasbullah, who is attached to the Pahang Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, was charged with receiving a bribe from a man at a restaurant in Jalan Beserah here at 12.37pm on May 7, 2018. The prosecution was handled by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Asraf Mohamed Tahir, while the accused was represented by lawyer Ahmad Nur Faid Afiq Aziz. Ahmad Nur Faid applied for a stay of execution, pending Hasbullah's appeal at the Court of Appeal. Asraf told the court to impose a higher bail amount to ensure that Hasbullah attends court. Radzi granted the stay, offering bail at RM15,000 and ordered the accused to report to the nearest MACC office on the first Monday of every month. Hasbullah was told to surrender his passport until the case concludes. Hasbullah, who has been suspended from duty, has 14 days to file an appeal to a higher court.
