
Why Oyo Is Doubling Down on Its Company-Serviced Hotels
India's growing purchasing power is driving Oyo towards premiumization, but it's doing it Oyo style.
Oyo has said it is aiming to double the share of company-serviced properties in its booking revenue from 22% to 44% in the current financial year.
The company that currently operates 1,300 hotels in its serviced segment across 124 cities also plans to expand the portfolio of these hotels to 1,800 properties across 300 cities. These are primarily under its mid-segment brands Townhouse Oak, Capital O and Palette, and premium brand Sunday.
The launch of company-serviced hotels in September 2023 marked Oyo's departure from its franchise model.
According to Oyo, it will focus on leisure cities, pilgrimage destinations, and business corridors where demand remains strong for the expansion.
What is Driving This Decision? In its statement, the hospitality company said that these hotels have double the average occupancy as compared to franchise hotels. These properties also get a higher customer rating, it added.
Last December, Oyo said that it achieved 250% growth in this segment within just a year of its launch.
Varun Jain, chief operating officer at Oyo said, 'The program is in line with Oyo's strategic focus for 2025 for the India market, which aims to drive profitability by enhancing the overall guest experience.'
The company said that the company-serviced hotel segment is Oyo's fastest-growing business segment globally. 'This highlights their higher revenue-generating potential, driven by standardised operations, superior service quality, and enhanced customer experience,' it added.

Each day, thousands of golf fans flood the Oakmont Country Club to catch U.S. Open action. Most people watch from the grass or grandstands, but some will enjoy the championship in a more luxurious style from the club seating. What is the 1895 Club at the U.S. Open? It's hard to miss the 1895 Club. The two-story temporary building sits within view of several holes that will make or break a golfer this week. "It's one of the few spots on course you don't have to leave the space to really see everything," said Brandon Wrobel, senior sales manager of hospitality for the USGA. The USGA started the club last year, naming it after the first year of the U.S Open Championship. The first floor is set up to be more of a club. The upper floor resembles more of a sports bar vibe. "This space is massive. We started when we looked at this championship, debating on what it would look like. And we got to the point here where we sold out fully in this space. The only time we have a little bit of tickets left is on Wednesday," Wrobel said on Tuesday. Tickets for the 1895 Club cost a pretty penny. The price of admission is a tad over $905, but that includes the fees. It also includes cart rides at the course, chefs and an open bar. "We try to be as white glove as you possibly can be on a golf course. The vibes are always great in this space when you have the atmosphere up here," Wrobel said. After starting this last year, the USGA feels it has worked out some tweaks and hopes the five days for the club enhance the fan experience. "We try to find the best spot on course with beautiful views as you take a look around the course and everywhere we go here," Wrobel said. The club holds about 650 people, and once the championship is over, the two-story structure will be taken down like the rest of the tents set up around the course.

Teri West Nearly 17 years ago, Celebrity Cruises debuted the Celebrity Solstice, complete with a new feature for the line -- and for the industry -- called the Lawn Club: A half-acre of live grass on the top deck. The Lawn Club recreated a park-like experience for guests at sea. And every other ship of the Solstice class followed with its own Lawn Club, enabling thousands of passengers over the years to experience the lawn and offer the line feedback. According to Celebrity, that feedback has indicated that guests want more to do there. So as a part of a $250 million renovation to the Solstice fleet revealed last week, Celebrity is doing away with the grass, replacing it with turf, and adding new amenities at what will now be known as Sunset Park. "Guests told us they wanted more dynamic, multifunctional spaces that offer both relaxation and engagement," said Katina Athanasiou, Celebrity's senior vice president of sales and services for the Americas. Like the Lawn Club, Sunset Park will aspire to the feel of a park you might find on land, with lawn games, movie screenings and concerts. In fact, there will be even more lawn games than there are at the Lawn Club. As Athanasiou puts it, "Sunset Park retains the Lawn Club's spirit of open-air leisure." There will also be more private cabanas, an "enhanced" bar and a new specialty dining venue. "While we're still finalizing the menu at Sunset Park, guests can expect globally inspired dishes, fresh ingredients and artful presentation all served in a relaxed, open-air setting," Athanasiou said. Some of the amenities as Sunset Park will be free for passengers, while others will carry an additional charge. The games, movie viewings and live concerts at Sunset Park will be free, Athanasiou said. The private cabanas, which have dedicated attendants, will cost extra, as will the food and drinks. Celebrity is also doing away with the glass-blowing studio at the Lawn Club, which offers classes at an extra charge. Other changes coming to the Solstice-class ships include the addition of a new lounge with trivia and concerts, a new sports bar and upgrades to the cabins. Celebrity Solstice is first in line for the makeover. Expect it to be done by March, according to Celebrity. With cruise lines frequently looking for ways to refresh and improve their products, the Lawn Club-turned-Sunset Park seems to be a good example of a line staying in tune with guest expectations. And hey, if turf is good enough for the NFL and other athletic fields, perhaps it'll be just fine for a cruise ship.
