Jury finds ‘Belltown Hellcat' guilty of reckless driving

The man known as the driver of the so-called 'Belltown Hellcat' was convicted Thursday of reckless driving, according to the Seattle Times.
After deliberating for less than three hours, the jury found Miles Hudson, 22, guilty on two counts, the Times reported—one for racing on a public street and the other for 'willful or wanton disregard' for the safety of people or property.
The trial entered its third day on Thursday in Seattle Municipal court with Hudson facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and street racing. Hudson gained infamy through videos that featured him performing risky, high-speed stunts and revving his Dodge Charger SRT's engine loudly in the city's Belltown neighborhood. The car was known as the 'Hellcat.'
In court, Hudson spoke about his motivation for participating in such reckless content, saying he initially struggled to earn money but found content creation to be a lucrative outlet.
Seattle Police Officer Oliver Murphy recounted his conversation with Hudson during a recent traffic stop, saying he advised Hudson to use a racetrack for racing in a safe and legal environment.
Evidence presented by the prosecution included video showing Hudson driving at speeds up to 108 miles per hour on city streets. Hudson denied engaging in street racing, claiming the footage was heavily edited.
Hudson has drawn repeated police attention over the past year for tearing through city streets.

Hardin's identity was confirmed through fingerprinting, per police. "We sincerely appreciate the continued support of the community for all law enforcement and Department of Corrections personnel involved in this operation," the ICSO said in a statement. According to a statement from the Arkansas Department of Corrections, Hardin was wearing 'a makeshift outfit designed to mimic law enforcement" during his escape. Officials confirmed he was not wearing a DOC uniform and said that all DOC-issued equipment had been accounted for. A prison officer in one of the guard towers opened a secure gate that allowed Hardin to freely exit, the Associated Press reported, citing a court document. Rand Champion, a spokesperson for the state prison system, told the outlet that the lack of verification of Hardin's credentials was a 'lapse" and would be investigated. Hardin was the former police chief for the city of Gateway, Ark. In 2017, he pleaded guilty to murder after fatally shooting 59-year-old James Appleton, who worked in the city of Gateway's water department, CBS News, 5News and The New York Times reported, citing an affidavit. The legal document states that Hardin murdered Appleton in February 2017 after pulling up to his parked car and shooting him through the window while the victim was on the phone, according to the Times. A motive remains unknown. While serving his 30-year murder sentence, Hardin also pleaded guilty to the 1997 rape of an elementary school teacher in Rogers, Ark., 5 News reported. Hardin was tied to the long-unsolved crime after authorities linked him to DNA taken from the victim's clothes, authorities said, per the outlet. According to authorities, the victim said Hardin pointed a gun at her and raped her after she exited the school restroom, the Times reported. He was sentenced to 50 years for that crime, per the Associated Press. Reacting to Hardin's capture, Secretary of Corrections Lindsay Wallace said, 'I'm incredibly appreciative to all of our dedicated law enforcement agencies that spent countless hours, both day and night, sacrificing their time, utilizing their resources and lending their invaluable expertise to this search." Good Samaritan steps up to help Grandview carpenter after trailer, tools stolen
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Some good news, a good Samaritan who saw our story about a carpenter who said his trailer and equipment were stolen in Grandview, is stepping up to help. . Kyle Hudson now has a set of tools and lots of equipment thanks to a generous donation. 'Once it leaves here it's yours,' the good Samaritan said. 'I hope it helps.' The man who donated more than a dozen pieces of equipment wanted to remain anonymous, but felt pulled to help. He heard Hudson's story. Hudson said in May, a thief took off with his trailer, along with all his Milwaukee tools and work equipment inside. It was parked outside his home in Grandview and wasn't insured. He said about $10,000-worth of items — gone. 'The material and the equipment got stolen in the trailer,' Hudson said. A generous viewer saw our FOX4 story and reached out to help Hudson, a total stranger. We were there for the hand off of equipment, including saws, drills, even an air compressor. They were all items he owned. 'They were items that I've had it for several years and I love it.' The man said. 'Sell it or do whatever to get you some Milwaukee stuff again.' 'It means getting back to work sooner than later,' Hudson said, 'With everything here pretty much immediately. And that was pretty far out of sight.' The man donating this equipment related to Hudson's story. He said about ten years ago, a thief stole $25-30,000-worth of work equipment out of his trailer. He told me, that's why he wants to help. Hudson said since the trailer and everything inside was stolen, he's lost several grateful this equipment will help him get back to work. 'There are good people out there, it might not be your next-door neighbor but there are people that are going to help if you speak up.
