Bjorn Baker has two of the leading fancies for the $1m The Archer slot race but says both come with a gentle word of caution.
Iowna Merc and Sandpaper race in the colours of Darby Racing and both are making the trek north to the central Queensland beef capital of Rockhampton for Sunday's dash for cash.
Both have the runs on the board to win The Archer, with Iowna Merc winning a Group 2 in Sydney before finishing five lengths off them in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile.

Sandpaper has won two of his past three, including when holding off all challengers in a fighting win at Randwick over 1400m earlier this month.
However there is one small concern as they look to knock off Tony Gollan's Archer favourite Transatlantic and other contenders in the rich regional slot race over 1300m.
Iowna Merc has raced 10 times since last having a break and Sandpaper will be having his eighth run this campaign.

'Both of these horses have been up for a while, we are very mindful of that,' Baker said.
'And they also have a fairly arduous week this week, with a reasonably big trip up to Rockhampton.
'But we are in it to win it.
'Both of these horses are rock hard fit, so we haven't had to do much with them.
'Iowna Merc's best form would be good enough to win this but he's probably got to get back to that very best form, which is a little bit of a question mark.
'Regardless of what happens on Sunday, Sandpaper has had a great preparation and he will be better again next preparation.'

Jockey Ashley Morgan, who knows how to win a slot race having scored the $3m Sunlight on Private Harry at the Sunshine Coast in January, will jet north to partner Iowna Merc.
Baker also knows how to win a slot race, having won The Quokka twice in Perth with Overpass before he was dethroned last Saturday in his bid for a third.
Elite Sydney hoop Nash Rawiller will ride Sandpaper.

We bought her as a weanling so we had her all our life and raised her and she was super tough. 'We found a lady, Suzanne Royal at Asscher Park near Violet Town, who was a vet nurse and she took her on and did a remarkable job in fixing her. 'She not only came good with barely any scarring but she kept her foal as well. 'Every one of her progeny has won. I strapped her nearly every start of her life and she was a very good racemare. 'She could run times that Front Page can't run. She hurt her knee at Caulfield one day early in her career and she was never really the same, even though she won five races.' 'What Stacey Lee has done for us is unbelievable.' In an amusing sidenote to what could have been a tragic story, the rescued foal was named after the movie character Veronica Corningstone, portrayed by Christina Applegate in the blockbuster hit comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Asked about potentially running in the Stradbroke, Duryea said: 'If he was to win (the Moreton Cup) then we would consider it but it depends on how he pulls up. 'But, touch wood, he hasn't had any dramas or niggles for 12 months or more now. 'But being an automatic entry for the winner, we would consider the Straddie and hopefully we get that option.' Goulburn's Dale took over the training of Front Page from Duryea's dad Geoff in mid-2023. The winner of seven races from 28 starts, Front Page has twice placed in Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m), including a runner-up behind Private Harry on March 22 at Rosehill Gardens. He finished a disappointing 11th in the $5m The Quokka (1200m) in Perth in late April but Dale said the gelding didn't appreciate running 'the Melbourne way'. In his absence, all roads lead to CURRUMBIN ALLEY (1) who is bred to be a miler, maybe even more, so all credit to the son of Vancouver (out of a Savabeel mare) for his half-length second at Gunnedah over 1250m. Drawn 1, 1300m and every extra metre assists. GRANDINI (10) was passed late first-up by Zelestial who might be above average. He's not an outright 'good thing' here but it would be hard to make a case for something to beat him. The one most likely, if at all, is the Brett Robb-trained WASTED DAYS (5) who might well go around later in the day as an emergency (Race 6). INVASIVE (1) has come back really well. Bet: Speedy Henry to win RACE 5: DUBBO RSL CLUB WINTER COUNTRY CLASSIC QUALIFIER F&M BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1300m ZELESTIAL (10) came to Australia with two runs in Ireland on her C.V, the first was a fifth to subsequent Group 3 winner Givemethebeatboys. The Lyle Chandler-trained daughter of Zoustar trialled like a bomb before her winning debut at Tamworth where she got a great ride. Scratched from Taree on Thursday to run here. WILLINGA KARISMA (1) has the home ground advantage. She's never been closer to a win. MISSY MOSS (9) has a bad draw but Bullock will help with that. Bet: Zelestial to win RACE 6: WESTERN PLAINS AUTOMOTIVE COUNTRY BOOSTED SHOWCASE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100m PRESSNELL (2) is a genuinely talented son of Press Statement, hence the name, think Max. This big, bold gelding has a win, a second and two fifths from his four starts. This was already a very winnable race for the Mack Griffith-trained galloper but his chances went up when he drew 2 and Bullock booked. SORRENTO PALACE (6) aims to, and can, snap a sequence of three consecutive seconds, keeping in mind that the last two were by very narrow margins indeed. Bet: Pressnell to win, quinella 2, 6, box trifecta 2, 6, 11, 7 RACE 7: FARDELLS HEAVY HAULAGE & CRANE HIRE SHOWCASE BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP 1000m CUMNOCK (11) has the lowest Benchmark rating in this race; he's on 60, the ones at the top are both on 77. That said, he is a last start winner on the move. Was to run in the Highway on Saturday but is way down the list so run here instead where he is two from two at the track and trip. IRON HAT (1) has won six races with 12 placings. Famously unlucky at times, the Jan Bowen-trained chestnut has mixed and matched it in better races than this. ZAKOR (4) is good enough to win most country sprints; this one included. Bet: Cumnock each-way, quinella 1, 11 RACE 8: EVERGREEN TURF | ELITE SAND & SOIL SHOWCASE BENCHMARK 82 HANDICAP 1400m RHYTHM IS A DANCER (2) has won seven races in 27 starts with eight placings which is a fine achievement on his, and trainer Brett Cavanough's, behalf. Among those wins are a Country Cup at Scone and a Spring Cup at Tamworth where he beat Russley Crown each time as it happens. Walked in at Inverell last start. This is harder if only for the presence of another good, old trusty Scone resident namely THE DRAMATIST (1). That said, he needs things to pan out for him but when they do, he's city class. Devils chief executive Brendon Gale says the 'no stadium, no team' condition for Tasmania's AFL entry remains crucial, stressing Hobart and Launceston's major venues are still 'not fit' to 'underpin a team in the big league on a sustainable basis'. Gale on Fox Footy's AFL 360 on Tuesday night remained defiant his club was still 'on track' to enter the AFL in 2028, despite a state government bombshell this week casting doubt over the Devils' future. Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff on Wednesday morning was hit with a no-confidence motion, which will continue to be debated in state parliament on Thursday. But Winter's move was based off claims the Rockliff Government had mismanaged the state's budget and bungled key infrastructure projects, including the proposed stadium. Should Rockliff fail to stave off the no-confidence motion, it's possible Tasmania will be pushed to a snap election, which could derail the new stadium plans and put the 19th AFL licence in jeopardy. The AFL on Wednesday reiterated it remained steadfast that a 'clear requirement' for Tasmania's inclusion is 'a new 23,000 seat roofed stadium at Macquarie Point'. That agreement is between the AFL and the state government, with the stadium needing to clear passage of both Houses of Parliament. Premiership Brisbane Lions coach – and Tasmanian football hall of fame legend – Chris Fagan said the AFL 'should let the team come in and then sort the stadium out' in the long-term, saying the Devils should just 'use facilities that are available' in Launceston and Hobart. 'It would be such a tragedy if the team itself doesn't go ahead because there wasn't a new stadium when there are other football fields down there that AFL footballers currently play on,' Fagan told the Herald Sun. 'The surfaces are fantastic. 'But I think it is only a noisy minority who don't want it (new stadium) anyway. The vast majority of Tasmanians I think do want it. Picture: Linda Higginson When asked on Fox Footy's AFL 360 if the 'no team, no stadium' policy to introduce Tassie was 'too ambitious' and that 'too many stumbling blocks' had been placed in front of the key stakeholders, Gale said: 'No, I just think it's been a difficult concept to explain. 'Firstly, there's no good time to build a stadium around the world. They're always big and they're expensive, and there's always a whole range of other priorities … Whether it's Adelaide or Perth Stadium, they're difficult to get through and get popular support. 'I guess that's compounded by the fact that people in Tasmania think: 'Well, we've got two perfectly good stadiums in Hobart and Launceston, why can't we just have those?' And they're reasonable stadiums and they've been fit for purpose. But they're not fit for the purpose of providing sustainable commercial business model to underpin a team in the big league on a sustainable basis. 'It's hard to explain in seven or 10 seconds, but once you do have the time and space to explain, you know, why it is important – and then also the whole range of other benefits that will be created and will be unlocked – people tend to come around. But it's not easy.' The anguish of the impact of the political turmoil on the Devils was personified on Wednesday by club general manager of marketing, corporate affairs and social impact Kath McCann – the Devils' longest-serving official – who broke down in tears at a press conference. 'This club is powered by our future generations, by our kids and by our grandkids,' a teary McCann said. 'It's an opportunity to bring this state together, it's an opportunity to create pathways. 'I've got 50 students out here in my sight line, they power us every single day — and they will keep doing that and we're going to play on. We want to see this team become a reality because our young people deserve it.' Premiership Eagle Will Schofield was blown away by McCann's passion and 'powerful words'. 'This is more than just a footy club. This is something for an entire state, an entire generation of Tasmanians coming up behind it,' Schofield told Fox Sports News' AFL Tonight. 'It's a real instance of politics getting in front of people. This is a move that's going to change the state – and the football followers specifically in Tasmania, the people. So whether it be adults now or kids in future generations, being able to put this stadium together and this team together, it's more than just a game of footy. 'The cheques and balances will get done, but what's really sad is it seems like politics is getting in front of the people – of which I think a lot want this stadium and this team to come through. 'Knowing how big a football state Tasmania is, it'll be really sad for that to be lost.'
