Multiple rounds of strong storms tonight through the weekend, Turns much cooler late next week
Tonight, a cold front will move into Central Alabama, bringing strong to severe storms. These storms will likely weaken as they approach Alabama.
There is a level 2/5 Slight Risk for NW Alabama and a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for Central Alabama. The primary threats will be gusty winds and large hail. The storms will be south of I-20 by sunrise. It will be muggy and breezy, with lows in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
Weekend Outlook: The cold front will stall across Alabama, and upper-level waves will move along it. Saturday will see two rounds of storms, with the first round in the morning bringing strong to severe storms, along with gusty winds and heavy rain. The second round is conditional on the atmosphere recovering from the morning round. It will arrive between 3 PM and 10 PM, with some storms possibly becoming strong to severe, bringing gusty winds, hail, and heavy rain. SPC has placed all of Central Alabama under a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe storms along and south of I-20. Highs will reach the middle 80s, with the heat index in the lower to middle 90s.
Sunday will be very warm and humid, featuring more scattered showers and storms as the front remains stalled over Central Alabama. There will be a round early on Sunday and a second round Sunday afternoon.
SPC is maintaining a Level 1/5 Marginal Risk for severe storms, highlighting gusty winds and hail. High temperatures will be in the middle 80s, while the heat index will reach the 90s. These storms could impact the Regions Tradition golf tournament.
Next Week's Outlook: The front will lift back north as a warm front on Monday and Tuesday. Each day will be partly cloudy, hot, and humid, with only a low chance of a shower. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s, and the heat index will be in the middle 90s. A cold front is expected to arrive late Tuesday into Wednesday, bringing scattered showers and storms, some of which could be strong with gusty winds and hail. Highs on Wednesday will be in the lower 80s. A rare mid-May cool-down is anticipated on Thursday and Friday, featuring plenty of sunshine and highs in the lower to middle 70s. COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- The First Alert Weather Team continues to monitor storms moving through the region this evening. Power outages and damages are reported across western and central Alabama. As these storms push through, a few will be strong to severe. Sunday: These storms will exit by 10PM ET tonight, giving us a few hours before the next round. Another chance for severe weather is possible early Sunday morning, making us WEATHER AWARE. This line will enter from the north, bringing a threat for damaging winds, small hail, and heavy rainfall.
