The 52nd anniversary of Secretariat winning the Belmont Stakes by 31 lengths to secure the Triple Crown was last week, and more than a half century later it remains the standard in sports used when the field is dominated.
Aaron Judge is doing a pretty good version of Secretariat in 2025. He is running away from his contemporaries and toward history.
He is not overwhelming in all the traditional Triple Crown categories. After his dramatic ninth-inning home run Friday night off of Boston's Garrett Crochet, he led the AL or was tied for the lead in batting average, homers and RBIs.
But within the more modern 'slash' Triple Crown, he is creating quite a distance to the runners-up (all stats were going into the weekend for qualified MLB hitters, not just one league or the other):

Tony Finau slips down U.S. Open leaderboard following 3rd round outing

Tony Finau tees off on the 13th hole during the first round of the U.S. Open golf tournament at Oakmont Country Club Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Oakmont, Pa. | Carolyn Kaster, Associated Press Tony Finau's stellar Friday finish at the U.S. Open didn't continue into Saturday. Following an impressive second round in which he shot even par, the Utah native shot a +4 in Saturday's third round action at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania. Advertisement Finau bogeyed six times on Saturday — with five coming on the front nine — while recording birdies on holes 10 and 13. His performance wasn't atypical for the day, however, as only four golfers finished under par in the third round. Finau now sits at +10 overall and tied for 49th place in the U.S. Open field, falling four leaderboard spots from Friday's finish. The first tee times for round four of the U.S. Open will begin around 7 a.m. MDT on Sunday.
