NEPRA reduces electricity prices by Rs3 per unit for Karachi consumers

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has announced a reduction in electricity prices for consumers across Pakistan under the monthly adjustment mechanism, Express News reported.
According to NEPRA's notification, electricity rates for Karachi consumers have been reduced by Rs3 per unit, while rates for consumers in other parts of the country have been lowered by Rs2.12 per unit.
NEPRA issued separate notifications for the adjustments, stating that consumers will receive the relief in their March electricity bills.
The reduction for K-Electric consumers is based on the December 2024 monthly adjustment, while the decrease for other consumers nationwide is applied under the January 2025 adjustment.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Friday presented Rs2.12 trillion surplus budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 with no new tax and an increase of 10% in salary and 7% in pension of its employees. Presenting the annual budget, Finance Minister KP Aftab Alam said the estimated annual expenditures for the new fiscal year would be Rs1.962 trillion with a surplus of Rs157 billion. Giving the break-up, the minister said the government was expecting to get Rs292.340 billion from the federal government for the merged tribal districts including Rs80 billion current budget grant, Rs39.600 annual development programme, Rs50 billion under AIP, Rs42.740 billion as their share from other provinces and Rs17 billion for TDPs. Sindh CM Murad presents Rs3.45trn provincial budget for FY2025-26 According to the minister, he said Rs3.293 billion would be received from PSDP, Rs1,506.92 billion from the federal receipts, Rs129 billion provincial owns receipts and Rs10.250 other receipts, Rs291.340 million from merged districts receipts and Rs177.188 million from federal projects assistance. He said no new tax has been imposed in the budget; rather tax net base has been enhanced with Rs83.500 billion tax receipts and Rs45.500 billi on non-tax receipts for the new fiscal year. Similarly, the other receipts of Rs10.25 billion would include capital receipts of Rs250 million and Rs10 billion in other ways and means and Rs1.14 trillion as federal tax assignment.

KARACHI: Gold prices significantly grew on Thursday, mirroring the global market uptrend, surpassing $3,350 per ounce, traders. International market gained $30, trading bullion at $3,375 per ounce that pushed up local gold prices by Rs4,000 per tola and Rs3,430 per 10 grams. PEMRA initiates legal proceedings against M-Tel Communications

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has initiated legal proceedings against M/s M-Tel Communications (Private) Limited, Lahore, after three post-dated cheques submitted by the company — amounting to Rs 7,575,000 — were dishonoured by the bank. The company owes PEMRA a total of Rs3 3,645,963 in outstanding dues. Despite repeated reminders and flexibility granted in the form of post-dated cheques, the company failed to honour the payments. As a result, the PEMRA has filed a formal application at the relevant police station under Section 33(3) of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002, amended through the PEMRA (Amendment) Act 2023. The case has also been referred under Section 489-F of the Pakistan Penal Code 1860 for criminal proceedings. The PEMRA has issued a stern warning to all its licensees to ensure timely clearance of dues, failing which strict action will be taken in accordance with the law. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
