"Why We Need Indians...": US Man Calls H1-B Visa "Complete Fraud", Sparks Debate
Ever since Donald Trump got re-elected as the US President, there has been an intense debate over the H-1B visa and its job market impact on American citizens. While the hard right argues that the H-1B visa holders "take away American jobs" and are a "threat to Western civilisation", Mr Trump and his top officials including Elon Musk have backed the H-1B programme saying "America needs talented people" so that world's top talent lives and works in the US and help the country stay ahead of the global curve on technology, research and health care. Now, a social media post by an American man stating that "H-1B is a complete fraud" has reignited discussion over H-1B visas and immigration.
In his post, Sean Carpenter, whose X bio states he is a musician and a Republican MAGA supporter, claimed that he heard three gate agents at the Washington, DC airport speaking in Hindi. He asked his followers why Indians were working at US airports when these jobs could be given to Americans instead. "Sitting in the DC airport, listening to three gate agents speaking Hindi behind me. Tell me why we need Indians to work the gates at airports again?" Mr Carpenter wrote. He ended his post declaring that "H1B is a complete fraud."

Mr Carpenter's post has sparked a discussion on immigration and employment in the US. While some agreed with him, others suggested that he might have been mistaken in assuming that the gate agents were Indians on H1B visas.
"You have no idea that Indian origin US citizen can also speak Hindi. Like whatever European country your parents grand parents came same happened from all over the world for many many years. Hindi is not equal to h1b," wrote one user.
"You know Indians who are born here and American citizens speak Hindi, right! Or Green card holders who became naturalized speak Hindi as well," commented another.
"H1B isn't for working in airports. It's strictly for STEM. Science, Engineering, technology and manufacturing. I worked on H1B for 7 years. These gate guys came through family green card," explained a third user.
"To come to this conclusion based on a brief experience in the DC airport and then post it is irresponsible, illogical, and plain dumb. The spreading of this kind of irresponsible garbage is tearing at the fabric of our nation," said another.
"That's quite the take. Has it ever occurred to you that a) they're citizens who are bilingual and b) that gate agent isn't a type of job you could get an H1B for?" asked one X user.

Trump says Putin vowed strong retaliation for Ukraine's drone attack
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Russian President Vladimir Putin had warned him during a phone call that Moscow would respond to recent drone attacks by Ukraine. Trump revealed that the two leaders discussed the situation during a call that lasted over an hour. 'We discussed the attack on Russia's docked airplanes, by Ukraine, and also various other attacks that have been taking place by both sides,' Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. He added, 'President Putin did say, and very strongly, that he will have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.' Trump described the conversation as 'a good conversation, but not a conversation that will lead to immediate peace.' Russia warns of military response Earlier in the day, the Kremlin indicated that it was considering military options in response to Ukrainian operations deep inside Russian territory. Russian officials also accused the West of playing a role in the attacks. Moscow urged both the United States and the United Kingdom to rein in Kyiv following these incidents, which Ukrainian officials have praised as signs of their continued resistance, even after more than three years of conflict. British and American officials, however, stated they had no prior knowledge of the recent drone strikes, which targeted Russian nuclear-capable long-range bombers. Iran's nuclear programme also discussed Trump said his conversation with Putin also included discussions about Iran and its nuclear ambitions. 'I stated to President Putin that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon and, on this, I believe that we were in agreement,' Trump wrote. He added that Putin had shown interest in engaging in talks aimed at reaching a new nuclear agreement with Tehran. 'President Putin suggested that he will participate in the discussions with Iran and that he could, perhaps, be helpful in getting this brought to a rapid conclusion,' Trump wrote. He criticised Iran for delaying key decisions, stating, 'It is my opinion that Iran has been slowwalking their decision on this very important matter, and we will need a definitive answer in a very short period of time!'

Unsealed records in Abrego Garcia case offer few details that are new, unknown
A federal judge on Wednesday ordered the unsealing of several court documents in the lawsuit over Kilmar Abrego Garcia's deportation, rejecting the Trump administration's arguments that it would risk national security. U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis in Maryland issued her order after media organizations, including The Associated Press, argued the public has a right to access court records under the First Amendment. Filings unsealed so far offer little information that's new or unknown publicly. Xinis described one document as 'relatively boilerplate.' It was a request by the Trump administration to temporarily halt discovery, an early phase of a lawsuit where parties share evidence. 'It does not disclose any potentially privileged or otherwise sensitive information for which a compelling government interest outweighs the right to access,' Xinis wrote. Xinis noted that some documents were public before the court was asked to seal them the next day. Those filings contained a back-and-forth between Abrego Garcia's attorneys and the U.S. government over efforts to return him from El Salvador. Trump administration lawyers often objected to answering questions, arguing that they involve state secrets, sensitive diplomatic negotiations and other protected information. For example, the U.S. attorneys mentioned 'appropriate diplomatic discussions with El Salvador.' But they wrote that disclosing the details 'could negatively impact any outcome.' Xinis also ordered the partial release of a transcript from an April 30 court hearing. Some of it will be reacted to protect potentially classified information. Wednesday's ruling was unrelated to the Trump administration pending invocation of the state secrets privilege, a legal doctrine often used in military cases. The administration has argued that releasing information about the Abrego Garcia matter in open court — or even to the judge in private – could jeopardize national security. Xinis is yet to rule on the state secrets claim. Abrego Garcia's attorneys have argued that the Trump administration has done nothing to return the Maryland construction worker. They say the government is invoking the privilege to hide behind the misconduct of mistakenly deporting him and refusing to bring him back. Abrego Garcia's deportation violated a U.S. immigration judge's order in 2019 that shielded Abrego Garcia from expulsion to his native country. The immigration judge determined that Abrego Garcia faced likely persecution by a local Salvadoran gang that terrorized his family. Abrego Garcia's American wife sued over his deportation. Xinis ordered his return on April 4. The Supreme Court ruled on April 10 that the administration must work to bring him back. President Donald Trumptold ABC News in late April that he could retrieve Abrego Garcia with a phone call to El Salvador's president. But Trump said he wouldn't do it because Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang, an allegation that Abrego Garcia denies and for which he was never charged.
