Mass bus brawl sees 'person stabbed' and passengers 'fight with weapons'
West Midlands Police responded to a 'stabbing on a bus in Northfield' this week, following reports of a mass brawl, allegedly with weapons, on a National Express vehicle
Emergency services flooded a residential area after a mass brawl reportedly involving weapons broke out between a group of passengers on a bus, with reports a person had been 'stabbed'.
Police received reports that a "disorder" had taken place on a bus, with concerns that a person was stabbed in Birmingham. Emergency services rushed to the National Express West Midlands vehicle in Bristol Road, Northfield, at around 1pm on Wednesday. Shocked onlookers alerted the police after the fight reportedly became dangerous. Officers were spotted talking to locals in the aftermath to try and gather information and work out what had happened.
Now, the force is appealing for information after the disruptive group fled the scene. It remains unclear whether a person was actually stabbed after reports of at least one person suffering knife injuries.
When police got to the scene, those said to have been involved had left the bus and the surrounding area. A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: 'We were called at 1.12pm to reports of a stabbing on Bristol Road South, Northfield in Birmingham.
"One ambulance and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival, no patients were found at the scene requiring treatment and we were stood down as our assistance was no longer required.'
Police originally said its officers were called to a "stabbing on a bus in Northfield" shortly after 1pm. Officers arrived and found nothing but remained in the area to carry out further enquiries and check CCTV footage, reports Birmingham Live.
Now a spokesperson for the West Midlands force said: 'We are appealing for information following disorder on a bus in Northfield yesterday (25 June). We were called to reports of a group fighting with weapons on a bus in Bristol Road South at around 1pm.
"Officers swiftly attended but everyone involved had left the bus and the surrounding area. An investigation is underway and officers are carrying out enquiries, including a review of CCTV footage.
"We are now asking for any information to establish exactly what happened, and to help us identify those involved. If you can help with our investigation, you can contact us via 101 quoting log 2629 of 25 June.'

The police and crime commissioner for Bedfordshire said he did not know the specifics of the post, but added "it would appear not to be something that was appropriate".Bedfordshire Police was contacted for comment. 'Enjoy your beverage' The post, from the Bedford Community Policing Team, was published in May and began with the words, "Roll up Roll Up it's PC Pete's Pop-Up 'Party-Pooping' Parade at St Peter's Green!"It went on to say that PC Pete was "bringing his ASB (anti-social behaviour) disrupting engagement to St Peter's Green again this Saturday".It said people could "bring your extra strength alcohol" and "illegally enjoy your beverage from one of the many benches provided".The message pointed out there were no toilet facilities at the park, but if anyone was caught defecating "you may find yourself winning an all expenses paid trip to our custody suite".Towards the end of the post, it said: "All 'banter' aside, consuming alcoholic drinks, urinating and defecating in public spaces, and any other ASB will be dealt with accordingly."You have been warned!" Former Nasa scientist admits defrauding investors and using money to buy house
An 85-year-old former Nasa scientist has admitted defrauding investors and using some of the proceeds to buy a house. John Burford generated more than £1 million from 100 investors through his illegal practices, but only £760,000 was ever traded – much of which was lost. Substantial amounts of the money investors sent him was actually used to buy his own home, a court heard. Burford appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday wearing a brown jacket, grey trousers and brown boots. He admitted fraud by false representation and carrying on a regulated activity when not authorised between January 2020 and December 2023. He has a PhD in physics from the University of Toronto and worked for Nasa in its manned Mars exploration team based in Washington DC, before moving into finance, his biography on publisher Pan Macmillan's website says. Prosecutor Tom Godfrey told the court Burford set up a scheme which sent subscribers daily email alerts with investment opportunities. He traded £760,000 worth of the money generated, but 'lost significant sums', Mr Godfrey said. 'He used substantial amounts of the money received to buy his own home,' he added. The former scientist, who now lives in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, was the sole director of Financial Trading Strategies Ltd, but was not authorised to trade in the UK, the court heard. Carrying out unauthorised business is an offence punishable by a fine and/or up to two years' imprisonment.
