Jamal Thiare delivers equalizer and Atlanta draws 1-1 with Austin
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Substitute Jamal Thiaré scored in the second minute of second-half stoppage time to lift Atlanta into a 1-1 draw with Austin on Wednesday night.
Thiaré tapped in after Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver failed to stop an attempt by Saba Lobjanidze and Thiaré beat the Austin defenders to the ball for the equalizer.
Brandon Vázquez scored on a free kick early in the second half to give Austin a 1-0 lead. Vázquez scored from free kick with a right-footed shot from the central position outside the box to the upper right central zone.
Austin's Stuver had four saves and Brad Guzan saved five shots for Atlanta.
Each team had three shots on goal in the scoreless first half. Austin had a possession percentage of 57%.
The match was the first of three home matches in eight days for Austin, two in the league and one in the U.S. Open Cup.
Austin (5-6-2, 17 points) hosts Vancouver on Saturday.
Atlanta (2-6-5, 11 points) hosts Philadelphia on Saturday. ___

It's the third time McIntosh has set a new world record at this year's Canadian trials, after she posted a new mark in the 200m individual medley on Monday and in the 400m freestyle on Saturday. Detroit Tigers prized rookie Jackson Jobe to have season-ending Tommy John surgery
BALTIMORE (AP) — Detroit Tigers pitcher Jackson Jobe will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, the team announced Wednesday. The 22-year-old rookie went 4-1 with a 4.22 ERA in 10 starts after making Detroit's opening-day roster. He was placed on the 15-day injured with a Grade 1 right flexor strain following his May 28 outing. Selected third overall in the 2021 amateur draft, Jobe was the Tigers' third-ranked prospect in 2024, according to The right-hander made two relief appearances for Detroit late last season, then two more in the American League playoffs. Khalil Mack ‘couldn't give up on that dream' of winning with the Chargers
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — Khalil Mack mulled retirement early in the offseason. It didn't take long for him to decide to return to the Los Angeles Chargers. He agreed on a contract extension in March, never becoming an unrestricted free agent. 'Got tremendous leadership here, very familiar with guys already here,' he said Wednesday at minicamp. 'It was a no-brainer.' Mack, who turned 34 in February, is in his 12th season in the league and fourth with the Chargers. Despite nine Pro Bowl selections and a Defensive Player of the Year honor, he has never won a playoff game in five appearances. 'You're chasing that feeling of wanting to win,' Mack said. 'I couldn't give up on that dream and that goal for myself and the franchise.' Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter said having Mack return 'means everything.' 'Khalil is one of the best ever to do it,' he said. Mack was at the Chargers facility to train in February and March, setting a tone for his teammates. 'The impact that he had on other people to train at his level is pretty incredible,' Minter said. 'For young guys to have him around, it just makes everybody better.'
