Passion play draws more young people in NJ: ‘God would die for us'
PATERSON, N.J. – It's the real-life re-telling of a defining day for Christians around the world.
'It just really widens the perspective,' said Maximo Gaytan, a 16-year-old sophomore at Wayne Hills High School, portraying a disciple of Christ. He's one of many younger reenactors in Paterson's live-action rendition of the Passion of Christ on Good Friday.

'It's really important that us as teenagers serve as role models and leaders in faith so we can really affect others,' said Gaytan.
Leaders of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist say there are more young people involved in the reenactment than last year.
'Some of the teenagers who are in the Passion of the Christ, I've seen them grow here for the past three to five years,' said Eleny Rivera, the church's youth leader.
Jamil Sheha, 21, a college student transferring to William Paterson University, is playing the role of the devil.
'It's a hard part to play, said Sheha. ' It makes you feel different. You being a bad person to Jesus, knowing all he did for us, he died on the cross for us, it's hard to do it, but it's a part you have to do.'
'I want the kids, the teens, to know that this is their home and they're important members of the body of Christ, the Church,' said Monsignor Geno Sylva, Rector of St. John's Cathedral.
Christians observe Good Friday as the day Jesus was nailed to the cross and died three days before his resurrection on Easter Sunday.
Thousands come out to the cathedral every year to witness the power, and at times, brutality. In this City, Good Friday has become more than a day to reflect, but one to experience and share.
'Today's about seeing that it's almost too good to believe – that God would die for us, who are each imperfect,' said Sylva. 'But yet it's not too good to believe. That's why we try to make it so powerful.'

Critics with similar complaints flooded Variety's social media post announcing the casting with one user in the replies called Erivo playing Christ 'anti-Christian bigotry' by 'Hollywood.' But Erivo told Billboard, 'Why not?' as she shrugged off naysayers. 'The more yourself you are, the more you are in front of people who don't necessarily understand, the better understanding starts to happen,' she said. As much as she wants to be 'a person you can get positive things from' since 'that is the only way you can balance this stuff,' she couldn't help getting in a jab at Donald Trump for his takeover of the Kennedy Center, where Erivo played some of the most iconic performances of her career. 'I don't know who gains what from that. I hope that it comes back,' she said. 'It's really sad to have to watch this happen to it. The Kennedy Center is supposed to be a space of creativity and art and music for everyone.' That said, assimilating to appease Trump and his 'anti-woke' mob isn't on the star's to-do list, she added. 'I want to encourage people to not decide to just tuck away and start hiding and not being themselves anymore,' she said, 'because that is exactly what they want.'

Kylie Jenner's Hairstylist Cause of Death Revealed 3 Months After His Passing
Kylie Jenner's late hairstylist, Jesus Guerrero's cause of death, has been revealed three months after his tragic passing. Per a report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, published this week, the celebrity hairdresser died of natural causes. Guerrero contracted two infections — pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) and disseminated cryptococcus neoformans — which are both caused by fungus, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The medical examiner listed the secondary cause of death as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. Guerrero died in February at age 34. His sister, Gris Guerrero, spoke to Us Weekly in March and said that her brother was diagnosed with gastritis months back and was very private about his health. 'People who saw him said, 'You need to get rest and help,' and he seemed to believe he could push through it and get better and unfortunately that wasn't the case,'' she told the outlet. Besides being part of The Kardashians star's glam team, Jesus was also a close friend to her. Following Jesus' passing, Gris created a GoFundMe page — and was moved when Jenner, 27, reached out to help financially. 'Our family deeply appreciates Kylie for later offering to cover funeral expenses and offering up all her help and support,' Gris wrote. The Khy founder, along with Jennifer Lopez, another one of Jesus' A-list clients, attended the funeral, which took place in Houston in March. Jenner posted about how much she missed Jesus on her Instagram Story last month. 'Think about u every day,' she wrote on a photo of Jesus cooking in the kitchen with her and her daughter Stormi, 7, whom she shares with her ex Travis Scott. She also made a heartfelt tribute to Jesus on the app in February after news of his death broke.
