Nelson County responders find 1 dead inside fully submerged vehicle

NELSON COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — 'Please do not try to cross flooded roadways' is a request many Kentuckians have become familiar with over the past week, but the Nelson County Sheriff's Office said it carries a serious meaning and could be the difference between life and death after emergency personnel found a person dead inside a fully submerged vehicle in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Deputies posted on Facebook that around 3:40 a.m. on Saturday, Nelson County Dispatch told authorities about a water rescue taking place involving a person trapped in their vehicle on the 2800 block of Nelsonville Road.
When emergency responders got to the vehicle, a 74-year-old was found dead inside, Nelson County deputies wrote.

The name of the person found dead in the vehicle is being withheld until the family has been notified.
The sheriff's office wrote that the result of driving through flooded waters doesn't outweigh the risk.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Louisville Metro Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own after her battle with cancer. On Tuesday, June 10, the Louisville Metro Police Foundation announced the death of Detective Michelle Rusch after over a decade of serving the Louisville community through the Crimes Against Children Unit. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled,' the Louisville Metro Police Department said. The foundation said this was 'a powerful reminder of the lives she touched and the difference she made.' Rusch's husband, Kent, also serves as a detective for the department. 'Together, Michelle and Kent are the embodiment of service, two heroes who gave so much to protect others, all while raising three wonderful children,' the foundation wrote. In her final days, the foundation said that Rusch affirmed she only had two wishes. GEORGETOWN, Ky. (FOX 56) — School resource officers play a crucial role in the lives of students and faculty. On Tuesday, the work of these dedicated officers was highlighted. Law Enforcement units from all over the state came to Great Crossing High School to attend the 2025 Safe Schools & Communities Conference, where part of the event included highlighting the School Resource Officers (SROs) of the year from different regions. Officer Larry Robinson is now the overall SRO of the year. Robinson serves with the Elizabethtown Police Department and is an SRO at Central Hardin High School. We all have the same idea about being in the schools for the kids. It's a cool part of the job,' Robinson said. 'There are a lot of issues where kids need that role model, and what better opportunity than to build a trusting relationship through my job as a sheriff's deputy, to get in there and show kids what we really mean. SRO of the year is a big title, but these officers say the best reward isn't just one day of the year. 'It's the most unique assignment in law enforcement, and it takes a unique individual to do it. If you look around at the SROs here, you can see the passion on their faces,' Cannady said. 'Now, we all come together to help break those chains, give them strengthening skill sets to be able to overcome the adversity that they're faced with,' Sargent added.
