Emma Raducanu's accused stalker prevented from buying Wimbledon tickets

CNN6 hours ago

The man accused of stalking tennis player Emma Raducanu tried to obtain tickets to Wimbledon but was blocked by the All England Club's security system, British media reported Tuesday.
The BBC and others reported that the man tried to apply for tickets through the public ballot for the grand slam tournament that starts June 30. His name had been red-flagged.
At the Dubai Championships in February, the man exhibited 'fixated behavior' toward the 22-year-old Raducanu, who became distressed during a match when she noticed him in the crowd.
A day earlier, he had left her a letter and took her photograph, which unnerved the 2021 US Open champion.
After seeing the man in the stands, Raducanu took shelter behind the umpire's chair during her second-round match against Karolína Muchová. Raducanu later said she 'couldn't see the ball through tears' and struggled to breathe before approaching the umpire.
The man was ejected from the tournament. He was later detained by Dubai police and signed a document pledging to 'maintain distance' from Raducanu, who is ranked No. 36.

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk faces an FA charge in a doping case

LONDON (AP) — Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been formally charged by England's Football Association with doping violations, the governing body said Wednesday. Mudryk, who became one of Chelsea's biggest signings when he arrived for $108 million in 2023, hasn't played since it emerged in December that he was facing a doping investigation. This latest step brings the Ukraine international closer to a ban, which would follow a hearing. 'We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations,' the FA said in an e-mailed statement. 'As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.' Mudryk has previously denied wrongdoing. 'I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon,' he wrote in a statement on social media in December. Mudryk was spotted in public last month when he posed with fans ahead of Chelsea's Conference League final win over Real Betis in Poland. ___ AP soccer:

Jasmine Paolini beaten by Ons Jabeur in first grass match of 2025

BERLIN — Last year's Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini got off to a losing start in her first grass-court match of 2025, a straight-sets loss to Ons Jabeur. Jabeur, a Wimbledon finalist in 2022 and 2023, beat the fourth-seeded Paolini 6-1, 6-3 in the second round of the Berlin Tennis Open after the Italian had a first-round bye. Jabeur could face 2023 Wimbledon winner Marketa Vondrousova or Diana Shnaider in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Paolini was playing for the first time since winning the French Open doubles title with fellow Italian Sara Errani. Paolini lost to Elina Svitolina in the fourth round of the French Open singles.

Aryna Sabalenka Apologizes To Coco Gauff For French Open Comments

PARIS, FRANCE - JUNE 07: Coco Gauff of United States holds the Coupe Suzanne Lenglen trophy ... More alongside runner-up Aryna Sabalenka after the Women's Singles Final match on Day Fourteen of the 2025 French Open at Roland Garros on June 07, 2025 in Paris, France. (Photo by) Aryna Sabalenka has been under fire ever since her controversial comments about Coco Gauff following the French Open final. But the world No. 1 attempted to clear the air with an apology to Gauff. "It was just completely unprofessional of me. I let my emotions get the better of me. I absolutely regret what I said back then," she told EuroSport Germany. 'I wanted to apologize and make sure she knew she absolutely deserved to win the tournament and that I respect her. I never intended to attack her. I was super emotional and not very smart at that press conference.' Sabalenka's comments reached the mainstream sports world and even ESPN's Stephen A. Smith asked Gauff about it during a recent interview. 'I'm asking, 'what is her problem?'' Smith asked Gauff. 'She came across as a very sore loser after she lost to you.' Sabalenka, who also lost the 2023 U.S. Open final to Gauff, blamed the 'terrible conditions' in Paris for the loss and said of Gauff: 'She was hitting the ball from the frame. Somehow, magically, the ball lands in the court. It felt like a joke.' 'She won the match not because she played incredible, just because I made all those mistakes,' Sabalenka said. "That hurts,' Sabalenka added. 'Especially when you've been playing really great tennis during the whole week, when you've been playing against a lot of tough opponents, Olympic champion [Qinwen Zheng], Iga [Swiatek] and then you go out, and you play really bad. 'Like I think Iga... I think she would go out today and she would get the win. It just hurts. Honestly hurts. I've been playing really well, and then in the last match, go out there and perform like I did, that's hurt.' Responded Gauff: 'I mean, I don't agree with that. I'm here sitting here [as the champion]. 'No shade to Iga or anything, but last time I played her I won in straight sets. I don't think that's a fair thing to say, because anything can really happen. 'The way Aryna was playing the last few weeks, she was the favourite to win. So I think she was the best person that I could have played in the final. 'Her being No. 1 in the world was the best person to play, so I think I got the hardest matchup just if you go off stats alone.' Wimbledon begins June 30 and both players will be among the favorites.
