NEW DELHI: Amid rising speculation over Tesla's potential entry into the Indian market, Errol Musk, father of Tesla CEO
Elon Musk
and global advisor to Servotech Power Systems, spoke about when Elon will visit India.
Speaking during his ongoing tour of India, Errol highlighted the need for discretion in Elon's movements given his global stature.
Speaking to reporters about the possibility of Elon Musk visiting India, Errol Musk said, 'Elon Musk is a very important person in the world today. Every move he makes is measured in terms of what his economic impact is… So he has to be discreet or careful in how he moves or what he does, as every move is measured by the people'.
He further said Elon is expected to expand Starlink services in the country and assured that the tech billionaire sees promise in India, especially in delivering rural internet connectivity.
'But at the same time, India is a place that he will come to in due course and definitely extend Starlink because it's for the rural population, Wi-Fi for the people in the countryside', he added.
His remarks come amid growing anticipation over Tesla's entry into India, as well as the expansion of Starlink's satellite internet services.
He made the remarks during his ongoing spiritual and business tour of India, where he visited the ISKCON Temple in Delhi on Thursday.
Yesterday, he visited
Ayodhya
's Ram Janmabhoomi Temple and Hanumangarhi shrine.
He described the experience as 'absolutely wonderful' and 'one of the best things I've ever done.' Dressed in a traditional kurta-pyjama and accompanied by his daughter Alexandra Musk, he said, 'India is a wonderful place… The people are full of love, kindness—probably the best people you can meet.'
Errol Musk arrived in India on June 1 and is scheduled to stay until June 6, as part of his role with Servotech Renewable Power System Ltd.

‘Shame On You': Sabeer Bhatia's Critical Remarks On Indian Economy Leave Internet Furious

Last Updated: The Hotmail co-founder has now taken a swipe at India's pride in becoming the world's fourth-largest economy. Indian-American entrepreneur Sabeer Bhatia has stirred controversy once again, following a series of critical remarks about the Indian economy. Just days after questioning the country's GDP claims, the Hotmail co-founder has now taken a swipe at India's pride in becoming the world's fourth-largest economy. Posting on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Bhatia stated that Indians should feel ashamed of the nation's low average income levels, despite the population reaching 1.4 billion. His remarks sparked widespread backlash, with many users flooding the comment section to criticise and challenge his statements. 'Instead of hanging your head in shame that 415 million people in India survive on $3.10/day, you brag about being the world's 4th largest economy. Shame on you," Bhatia wrote on X. Shame on you.— Sabeer Bhatia (@sabeer) June 10, 2025 In response to Bhatia's post, many slammed him for gaining attention through the comments and not making any real contribution. The business was also engaged with a few critics, offering further insights. As one wrote, 'Why are you bragging about being the world's No. 1 economy with $36–37 trillion in debt? You're entirely dependent on a migrant population, conducting coups in other countries, and stealing their gold and oil resources. There is massive overvaluation of companies and many other things," to which Bhatia replied, 'Nobody is bragging. Show me one place where the US is bragging (except in your head). You've been fed the wrong story." A comment read, 'Sabeer, you may have your own ideas. Why don't you come to India, contest elections, win them, implement your agenda, and show the results? That would be better than sitting in an ivory tower and passing judgments." This is not the first time that Bhatia's comments on India have irked the internet. Earlier in May, the businessman shared a video criticising the country's economic growth. 'We overtook Japan in GDP… but can you feel it in your pocket? Growth without distribution is merely inflation in disguise," he wrote in the caption. Among those who pushed back was former Infosys director Mohandas Pai, who openly challenged Bhatia's claims. This sparked a heated exchange between the two. First Published:

Paytm share price cracks 10% after MDR clarification

Paytm share price in focus today: Shares of One 97 Communications, the parent company of Paytm, plunged 10% in early trade on Thursday, June 12, hitting an intraday low of ₹ 864.40 apiece, as investor sentiment turned sour after the Finance Ministry dismissed reports about the possible introduction of a Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). The stock has been in the spotlight in recent months amid reports suggesting that the Indian government may consider restoring merchant charges on UPI transactions. However, the Finance Ministry dismissed the speculation as 'false, baseless, and misleading,' stating that no MDR will be charged on UPI payments. "Speculation and claims that the MDR will be charged on UPI transactions are completely false, baseless, and misleading. Such baseless and sensation-creating speculations cause needless uncertainty, fear and suspicion among our citizens," Finance Ministry said in a post on X. "The Government remains fully committed to promoting digital payments via UPI," it added. This response came after reports in a section of media claimed that the Centre is considering reintroducing MDR on UPI transactions above ₹ 3,000 in a move to support banks and payment service providers. In March, the Payments Council of India (PCI), representing 180 non-banking payment players, urged the government to reconsider the Zero MDR policy for UPI and RuPay debit card transactions, citing financial sustainability concerns. The policy, in place since January 2020, has strained the ecosystem despite a government incentive of ₹ 1,500 crore—far short of the ₹ 10,000 crore annual operational cost. To address this, PCI proposed reintroducing MDR for RuPay debit cards and a 0.3% MDR on UPI for large merchants. Meanwhile, UPI continues to dominate India's digital payments, contributing 80% of retail transactions in FY24, with 131 billion transactions valued over ₹ 200 lakh crore. January 2025 marked a monthly high with 16.99 billion transactions worth ₹ 23.48 lakh crore. Disclaimer: The views and recommendations given in this article are those of individual analysts.
