USWNT, Portland Thorns forward Sophia Wilson announces she is pregnant

Fox Sports05-03-2025

Portland Thorns and United States women's national team forward Sophia Wilson has announced she is pregnant.
Wilson, who previously went by her maiden name Smith, posted a photo of herself on Instagram on Wednesday holding a strip of sonogram photos while being embraced by her husband, Michael Wilson, a wide receiver for the NFL's Arizona Cardinals.
"Life just keeps getting sweeter," her caption said.
Wilson, 24, was on the national team that won the gold medal at the Paris Olympics last summer. Fans dubbed the front line of Wilson, Trinity Rodman and Mallory Swanson "Triple Espresso."
Wilson, who was also on the 2023 Women's World Cup squad, has played in 58 games with the national team, scoring 24 goals. She was named U.S. Soccer women's player of the year in 2022 and young player of the year in 2017.
Wilson was the top pick in the National Women's Soccer League draft in 2020 after helping Stanford to a victory over North Carolina in the 2019 NCAA College Cup championship. She scored three goals in the Cardinal's semifinal victory over UCLA and was named the College Cup's most valuable player.
In five seasons with the Thorns, she has scored 44 goals across all competitions. She was named the NWSL's most valuable player in 2022 after helping Portland win the league title.
"We are overjoyed to share that @sophiawilson and her husband Michael are expecting their first child! The Thorns are proud to support her through this incredible new chapter," the team posted.
The Thorns open their 2025 season on March 15 at the Kansas City Current.

Aaron Rodgers confirms he's wearing a wedding ring, but for who?

Aaron Rodgers dropped a bombshell during the first day of the Pittsburgh Steelers' minicamp. While addressing the media for the first time since he signed with the team, one reporter asked him about the ring on his left ring finger. "Is that an aura ring, or anything else… a wedding ring?" Rodgers was asked. The 41-year-old quarterback, who's won a Super Bowl and two MVPs, and played with boundless confidence throughout his 20-year career, seemed caught, uncharacteristically, off guard. But, then he locked back in, embracing the question head on. "Yeah, it's a wedding ring," he said with a smirk. That opened a line of follow-ups. "Congratulations!" one reporter said. "How long has it been?" another asked. "It's been a couple of months," Rodgers replied. And that was that. So, Rodgers, one of the most highly covered athletes in 2025, got married and nobody knew? Seems like it. It seems Rodgers' illustrious and, at times, eccentric career has taught him to keep some parts of his personal life private. However, he chose to address the questions about potential personal drama rather than letting them grow and be up to public opinion. [Related: Aaron Rodgers' most notable accomplishments, moments of NFL career] While no doubt remains about the meaning behind the ring, Rodgers' wife has yet to be confirmed. Rodgers has been linked to celebrities such as Danica Patrick, Shailene Woodley and Olivia Munn in the past, but who is this new life partner? In December, Rodgers casually dropped the name of a girlfriend on the Pat McAfee show when talking about Christmas shopping: "There was one package left for my girlfriend Brittani that hadn't shown up yet," he said. Brittney is a common name, but Brittani, not so much. Many will certainly continue to search for the identity of the mysterious woman that shares Rodgers' wedding ring. And while they do that, he'll be trying to win another on the football field. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? 🇵🇸 Oman dash Palestine's World Cup dream in the cruellest way

Soccer had become a beacon of hope for a country like Palestine. Its team was still keeping alive its dream of playing in a World Cup. A victory over Oman would send the Palestinians to the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers. But soccer had its cruelest face in store for the Palestinian team. A penalty awarded in stoppage time against them and converted by the Oman team put an end to Palestine's World Cup dream. The Palestinian team, unable to play home games due to the current geopolitical situation, hosted the Oman team in Jordan. Advertisement The Palestinian team remained serious in the first half and at the start of the second half came the great outburst of joy. A goal by Kharoub put the Palestinians ahead and unleashed euphoria in the stands of the King Abdullah Stadium. A stadium located in the middle of a Palestinian refugee neighborhood. Palestine dominated the game and as the minutes went by, the World Cup dream seemed closer. But soccer had its cruelest twist in store for the Palestinian team: the one that changes everything in the last minute of the game. With time expired, the referee awarded a controversial penalty in the Palestinian team's area in favor of Oman. With the help of VAR, the referee validated the maximum penalty that Issam Al-Shabi converted. Joy for an Oman that will play in the fourth round of World Cup qualifying, devastation for a Palestine that saw its dream shattered. Who will play in the next Asian round? Three games will make up this second round of World Cup qualifying. Three games that will pit Oman against the other five teams that will play in this fourth round: Indonesia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Iraq... and Saudi Arabia, which failed to overcome an Australia that secured its World Cup ticket. Iran Superstar Plays Down Exit Speculation: 'I Have A Contract With Inter'

Iran Superstar Plays Down Exit Speculation: 'I Have A Contract With Inter' Iran international Mehdi Taremi addressed his future at Inter Milan after today's 3-0 win over North Korea. Speaking to the press after the game via FCInter1908, Taremi confirmed he has no intention of leaving San Siro. Advertisement Mehdi Taremi signed a multi-year contract last summer after leaving Porto as a free agent. Indeed, despite receiving offers from across the continent, he chose the Nerazzurri colors. However, his first season in Serie A didn't go as expected. Forced to play second fiddle to Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, he only made seven league starts. Moreover, the 32-year-old scored an unenviable three goals across 43 appearances in all competitions. For further context, his only goal in Serie A came from the penalty spot. Therefore, rumors surrounding his future have quickly gained momentum at the end of the season. Advertisement Yet, Taremi has no doubt and wants to stay Inter. (Photo by) Despite his club struggles, Taremi continues to be Iran's standout performer. His national team secured the 2026 World Cup qualification as Group A winners. Furthermore, he registered a goal and an assist as Iran trounced North Korea 3-0 in their final qualifying fixture. After the game, he spoke to the press, offering an update on his future at Giuseppe Meazza. 'I have a contract with Inter, and if they allow me, I will stay with this team,' he admitted. Though it wasn't a memorable season for Taremi and Inter, overall, there's still a place for him in this team. Advertisement Indeed, Joaquin Correa already left the club to join Brazilian outfit Botafogo on a two-year deal. Meanwhile, Marko Arnautovic will soon sever ties with the Nerazzurri as the club refused to offer him fresh terms. However, Inter may sign two new strikers in the summer, with Ange-Yoan Bonny and Rasmus Hojlund topping their wishlist.
