Fire in Sequoyah County burns more than 1,000 acres, less that half contained
SEQUOYAH COUNTY, Okla. (KNWA/KFTA) — More than 1,000 acres of land have burned in eastern Oklahoma due to fires, according to the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry.
The department said in a report on Wednesday that 1,151 acres in Sequoyah County have burned from the Salt Creek Fire. Officials say the fire is just 40% contained as of Wednesday morning.
Burn bans have been issued for counties surrounding Sequoyah County, including Delaware, Cherokee, Adair and Haskell. However, Sequoyah County is not under a burn ban.
Fires have also been reported in Pushmataha, Haskell, Latimer and McCurtain counties.
An interactive map from the Fire Information for Resource Management System showed fires on Tuesday afternoon north of Belfonte in northeast Sequoyah County.

Cleanup underway after straight-line winds cause damage to trees, cabin at Devil's Den State Park
WEST FORK, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — Cleanup is underway at Devil's Den State Park after straight-line winds damaged parts of the park over the weekend, according to the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism. A spokesperson for the department said in a statement on Thursday that more than 100 trees were downed due to the winds. 'Cleanup efforts are ongoing, with approximately 80% of debris expected to be removed by [Friday],' the spokesperson said. The park temporarily lost water after the storm, but service is expected to be restored by Thursday evening, according to the spokesperson. Park Superintendent Jay Schneider said all camping areas and restrooms are open. The pool, park store and café remained closed on Thursday and are expected to reopen on Friday, Schneider said. Creekmore Park Pool in Fort Smith temporarily closing due to ‘fiberglass irritation' reports from swimmers
FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The pool at Creekmore Park in Fort Smith will be temporarily closed after the city's Parks & Recreation Department received reports from swimmers of fiberglass irritation. The department said in a news release on Wednesday that it received a call concerning fiberglass irritation and was informed of a related social media post earlier this week. The grates around the park's main pool are made of fiberglass, which can wear down over time and begin to flake, the department said. 4 Arkansas-based companies ranked in latest Fortune 500 list The department said that after the pool closes on Thursday, June 5, staff will lower the water level below the grates and gently pressure wash the area to remove any residue. The pool will be closed to the public on June 6. During the closure, staff will apply an epoxy sealer to the grates to prevent flaking and allow the coating to dry thoroughly. A straight west-to-east upper-level flow, known as zonal flow, brings multiple 'shots' of upper-level lift, which in turn bring rain chances for several days this week. In the early morning, there's a good chance some showers could clip northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. So, mostly cloudy skies are expected to start, but by early afternoon, skies will start to cloud up, with rain chances dramatically increasing in the evening around 8 p.m. Severe weather is in the forecast, with the main threat being strong winds and hail. This subtle flow weather pattern could bring a few light showers early in the morning. By midday, some more showers and storms are expected.
