KUCHING, April 30 (Bernama) -- Main Market-bound telecommunications service provider Reach Ten Holdings Bhd is collaborating with CelcomDigi Bhd to deliver cellular coverage to underserved rural communities in Sarawak through low energy, low cost and high data load small cell base station services.
Reach Ten said in a statement today that the collaboration leverages satellite technology as the cost-effective option to overcome Sarawak's challenging terrain and dispersed population, where it would significantly reduce time and efforts required to deploy 4G networks.
"Under the strategic partnership, Reach Ten will provide comprehensive satellite backhaul infrastructure and SatCell devices, while CelcomDigi's spectrum will be utilised to deliver 4G service," it said.

As a tier-one satellite service provider with nearly two decades of experience in deploying satellite technology to remote locations in Sarawak, Reach Ten can seamlessly integrate CelcomDigi's reliable 4G network services, as well as deliver and install SatCell satellite system on site.
In addition to reducing capital expenditure and accelerating rollout, satellite backhaul also speeds up internet connectivity provision in rural Sarawak as it does not require numerous local authorities' approval in conventional infrastructure, such as approval of land access.
Reach Ten managing director Leo Chin said the collaboration aligns closely with both Sarawak's and the federal government's digital growth agendas and supports their mission to deliver fast and affordable internet to all, regardless of location.
'With this collaboration, cost-effective 4G network services will be available anywhere in Sarawak. The only time factor for delivery of internet services would be the time required to travel to the remote areas,' he said.
CelcomDigi Head of Region (Sarawak) Enterprise Business, Yvonne Tan, said it is excited to provide seamless internet connectivity to the whole of Sarawak, riding on Reach Ten's expertise in satellite services.
'The collaboration opens up huge possibilities for our communities, from connectivity to education and entrepreneurship, using internet as an essential tool in this age of big data, internet-of-things and artificial intelligence,' she added.

Published on: Thursday, June 12, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 12, 2025 Text Size: Abang Johari said the 2023 amendment to the Sarawak Electricity Ordinance was a significant step in accelerating the development of renewable energy. - Bernama pic KUCHING: Sarawak is forging ahead with its Energy Transition Policy (SET-P), charting a clear path toward a low-carbon and sustainable energy future to support the state's rapid and inclusive development, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg (pic). In a keynote address, 'Renewable Energy Sarawak: Powering Sustainable Growth', delivered by Deputy Minister of Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and Petros) Datuk Ibrahim Baki at the 18th International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Exhibition and Conference (SNEC PV) in Shanghai, China, Abang Johari hailed energy security and affordability as the key pillars of the state's long-term development agenda. Advertisement 'Sarawak aims to achieve 10 gigawatts (GW) of power generation capacity by 2030, and 15GW by 2035, positioning the state as a renewable energy leader in the region. 'Sarawak currently has an installed capacity of 5,898 megawatts (MW), with over 60 per cent coming from hydropower, supported by thermal generation to ensure energy security. 'Reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy is essential to meet the growing demands of our people and industries,' he said, as quoted in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) repport. Abang Johari said the 2023 amendment to the Sarawak Electricity Ordinance was a significant step in accelerating the development of renewable energy. Abang Johari also highlighted the state's push for solar energy, citing the successful commissioning of the 50MW Batang Ai Floating Solar Farm in December last year – the first hydro-solar hybrid initiative in Malaysia. 'Sarawak is targeting 1,500MW of solar generation capacity by 2030 and is exploring more largescale floating solar projects in collaboration with regional and international partners. 'We are committed to making Sarawak the 'Battery of Asean' by exporting renewable energy to our neighbours. 'The success of our crossborder electricity export to West Kalimantan in 2016 has spurred plans to expand energy connectivity to Sabah, Brunei, Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore. 'These efforts contribute to the development of an integrated Borneo Grid and, eventually, the Asean Power Grid,' he said. The ongoing SNEC PV Conference features over 3,000 exhibitors representing 95 countries, and serves as a key platform for policy updates, market trends, and global energy stakeholder engagement. Abang Johari also extended an invitation to global industry players to attend the Sustainability and Renewable Energy Forum (Saref 5.0), scheduled to be held in Kuching this Sept 3 and 4. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Pilot AI initiative launched for selected S'gor schools

PETALING JAYA: Selangor is set to roll out a pilot programme to help students and teachers adapt to artificial intelligence (AI), starting with selected schools in four districts. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative is part of the state's long-term plan to cultivate a generation equipped with critical thinking skills and a strong foundation in AI literacy. 'This is not just about being users or consumers of AI. We want to shape students to become creators and thinkers. 'We are starting with three schools per district, covering B40, urban and rural areas,' he said at a media conference at the launch of Advancing Future Skills for All (FS4A) Selangor Scale-Up yesterday. He said the programme is in line with the Selangor Structure Plan 2035, particularly its focus on accelerating digital-led economic growth and ensuring inclusive, high-quality education opportunities for all. Amirudin said the initiative, supported by Google and implemented by Arus Academy in collaboration with the Education Ministry, Unicef, Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and CelcomDigi, is not just timely but also strategic. 'This programme is a brilliant example of what a public-private partnership can achieve. We have Google and CelcomDigi deeply committed to our communities and ensuring every Malaysian child gets vital digital skills,' he said at the launch. 'We have nearly one million students enrolled in public schools up to Form 6. This initiative aims to explore how AI-related skills can be integrated at scale across Selangor. 'A state-level white paper on AI is also being developed to support long-term policy planning.' Arus Academy co-founder David Chak said the programme currently focuses on four districts – Gombak, Petaling Perdana, Petaling Utama and Klang. Schools were selected based on demographic distribution, poverty levels and overall readiness, in close coordination with district education offices. 'There's no one-size-fits-all approach. We work with each school to understand its specific context and tailor support accordingly.' At present, 88 schools are participating in the training. Each school sends one teacher and two students, and small grants of RM500 are provided to support school-based AI projects. Chak said the FS4A platform, launched during the pandemic, now has over 270,000 users and more than two million page views. Data analytics are employed to measure impact, track participation trends and enhance delivery across various school types. To date, the programme has reached over 13,000 students, with 3,350 successfully completing the modules. In its current phase, the programme aims to train at least 120 teachers across 40 schools by August, with classroom implementation expected to begin immediately thereafter. CelcomDigi Sustainability head Philip Ling said Selangor was chosen for the programme due to its dense school population, making it an ideal testing ground following the initial rollout in rural Sarawak. 'These tactical choices allow us to refine our approach based on different school environments.' Unicef education specialist Azlina Kamal said the programme was co-developed with the ministry and is integrated into national subjects such as Science and Design & Technology. 'Offline kits were also developed for students in rural and underserved areas, including indigenous and disabled communities, to ensure access without relying on internet connectivity.'
