Las Palmas keeper Cillessen recovering from surgery after his intestine was perforated during game
MADRID (AP) — Dutch goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen successfully underwent emergency surgery after his intestine was perforated in a collision with another player in a Spanish league game, his club Las Palmas said Tuesday.
Cillessen had to be carried off the field on a stretcher near the half-hour mark of Las Palmas' 1-1 draw at Celta Vigo on Monday.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper was hit in the abdomen by the left knee of Celta player Borja Iglesias while diving to get to the ball before the striker.
Cillessen was taken to a hospital in Vigo where the keyhole surgery was performed.
'Our goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has successfully undergone surgery for a perforated small intestine,' the club said in a statement.
Las Palmas did not say for how long Cillessen is expected to be sidelined.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — An Argentine not named Messi was the MVP for Inter Miami in the Club World Cup on Saturday night. The hero in the tournament opener was goaltender Oscar Ustari. Ustari made eight saves, including a penalty and goal-line intervention, as Miami played Egypt's Al Ahly to a scoreless draw in the Group A tournament opener. Ustari's save of a header in the 33rd minute was second only to stopping Trezeguet's penalty just before halftime and making sure danger was averted when the ball bounced back to Al Ahly's forward. The 38-year-old Ustari returned to a World Cup stage in this new Club World Cup format for the first time since winning the U-20 World Cup in 2005 — with none other than Messi, Inter Miami's captain. Before joining Inter Miami, Ustari was captain of C.F. NWSL's Angel City wears T-shirts reading `Immigrant City Football Club'
Angel City, the National Women's Soccer League team based in Los Angeles, distributed T-shirts to fans on Saturday that proclaimed 'Immigrant City Football Club.' Members of the team and the coaching staff also wore the shirts before their game Saturday night against the North Carolina Courage in solidarity with immigrants in the city who have been targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The back of the shirts said 'Los Angeles is for Everyone' in English and Spanish. The team said some 10,000 shirts were distributed. Protests over President Donald Trump's immigration policies broke out in Los Angeles a week ago. National Guard members and Marine troops have been sent into the city and dozens of similar protests have broken out nationwide. Last week Angel City issued a statement on social media addressing the protests. "We are heartbroken by the fear and uncertainty many in our Los Angeles community are feeling right now,' it said. "At Angel City, we believe in the power of belonging. We know that our city is stronger because of it's diversity and the people and families who shape it, love it and call it home." The players' unions for the NWSL and the WNBA also expressed solidarity with families 'facing fear, hardship, and uncertainty tied to immigration.' "We stand with all people seeking safety, dignity, and opportunity, no matter where they come from or where they hope to go,' the NWSLPA and WNBPA posted jointly.
