Germany's Füllkrug 'on a good path' towards West Ham comeback

Yahoo22-03-2025

Germany striker Niclas Füllkrug has said that he is close to returning to action again in an injury-plagued season at his new club West Ham United.
"I am on a good path. I am back in team training. I am being led slowly, it was a lengthy injury," Füllkrug told Sky TV on Saturday.
Füllkrug joined West Ham last summer from Borussia Dortmund but first suffered an Achilles tendon injury. He returned in December but has been sidelined again for two months with a thigh injury.
Füllkrug used the international break for a visit to his home country.
He visited the national team on Wednesday ahead of their first Nations League quarter-final against Italy, and was at former club Werder Bremen on Saturday to attend a testimonial match for ex-Bremen playmaker Diego.

Conceicao helps send Portugal to the final!

With the women's international window having just come to a close (and in real style for some of our Bianconere) in the last few days, it's now time for the men's national teams to take centre stage. With 10 of our Men's First Team players called up to represent their respective countries this month, the action is already underway. The first Bianconero in action was Francisco Conceicao with Portugal, who was in action in Germany. CHICO ON TARGET, PORTUGAL IN THE FINAL Conceicao and Portugal faced Germany in Munich, and trailed to a Florian Wirtz goal. Three changes after 58 minutes, though, changed the game. Advertisement Conceicao was one of the players to come on, and he needed just five minutes to make his impact felt, scoring an equaliser before Cristiano Ronaldo made it 2-1 just moments later. And so, Portugal are into the UEFA Nations League final, where they will take on either Spain or France.

Kimmich: Germany out of Nations League after 'well-deserved defeat'

Germany's Joshua Kimmich (C) and his teammates thank the fans after the UEFA Nations League semi final soccer match between Germany and Portugal at Allianz Arena. Sven Hoppe/dpa Germany's dream of celebrating a first title since 2017 on home soil came to an end on Wednesday evening as they were defeated 2-1 by Portugal in Munich in the Nations League semi-finals. The 2017 Confederations Cup will remain for now their most recent title after a game in which the national team lacked in many aspects. Advertisement "We didn't manage to bring our energy to the pitch. You couldn't see that we have a winning mentality, that we have a certain greed, that we wanted to be in the final," captain Joshua Kimmich said. The match marked their first defeat since the Euro 2024 quarter-finals against eventual champions Spain. Kimmich said that "bitter" was the wrong word to describe the game, because "it was a well-deserved defeat." "That was one of our worst games. It was well-deserved defeat. We weren't good enough with and without the ball. After going 1-0 up, we showed nothing at all." Advertisement "We have to understand that, when we don't give 100%, we can't go up against a top team. Every player has to reach their limit," he said. Coach Julian Nagelsmann also spoke of "a great disappointment" and shared Kimmich's thoughts. According to the coach, the team captain also said "some true words" to the team in their dressing room. "We are deservedly out of the final. We have to give 100%, that's how we can face the top teams. We didn't have the sharpness we've shown in recent games," Nagelsmann said.
