Ford recalls over 270,000 vehicles due to battery concern, NHTSA says
The Ford recall impacts certain 2021-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick pickup trucks.

Segway is recalling about 220,000 of its scooters following reports of several people falling and being injured when the handlebars' folding mechanisms failed.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a notice on its website that Segway had received 68 reports of the folding handlebars accidentally activating on Segway's Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters during use. All told, at least 20 people have been injured so far, including some who broke bones.
The recall notice advises consumers who own those models to stop using them and contact Segway to have them repaired.
What scooters is Segway recalling?
The voluntary recall is for both Segway's Ninebot Max G30P, which is black with yellow accents, and the Max G30LP KickScooters, which is gray with yellow accents.
The brand name 'ninebot' appears on the foot platform and the top of the handlebars, according to the notice.
Retailing for between $600 and $1,000, both products were sold across the United States at stores that include Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target and Sam's Club. The scooters, sold between January 2020 and February 2025, have also been available on Segway's website and Amazon.

How consumers can contact Segway
Consumers who bought either of the scooters can contact Segway to determine whether their folding mechanisms needs to be adjusted.
Those whose scooters are included in the recall can receive a free maintenance kit that includes tools and instructions to tighten the folding mechanism.
Consumers can contact Segway about the recall online. Segway can be also contacted at 800-914-6110 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or at recall@segway.com.
"This is a proactive measure to ensure customers can maintain their scooters properly," Segway said in a statement provided Monday to USA TODAY. "The scooters are fully functional, and no hardware replacements or software updates are required."

Multiple automakers' truck offerings have disappointed in sales. Towing with full-size trucks requires bigger and more costly batteries. Truck enthusiasts may be much slower to adopt EVs. 10 stocks we like better than Ford Motor Company › There's a truth in Detroit for Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) and General Motors, and that's that trucks are king. The dirty little industry secret, if you can call it a secret, is that full-size trucks cost only marginally more to produce than a passenger car, yet the former can sell for two to three times as much. Full-size truck sales are the backbone of Detroit automakers, but as the industry transitions to electric vehicles the scene may be set to change. In fact, the EV industry might have a truck problem, and that would be horrible news for auto investors. Long, long ago Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) CEO Elon Musk essentially mocked stereotypical trucks noting their stale design. Perhaps that's why the young EV maker swung for the fences with the Cybertruck's controversial design. But the unique design didn't stir up sales as much as it stirred conversation. Originally predicted to reach annual sales between 250,000 to half a million units, the Cybertruck has been a commercial flop. It reached only 40,000 U.S. registrations last year, and while that was good enough to be the top EV pickup truck, it was a fraction of original estimates. Because Tesla doesn't break out its sales per model, registrations can serve as a proxy to sales. Ford's highly anticipated F-150 Lightning also disappointed compared to initial hype. Ford noted before the truck's launch it had 200,000 reservations and anticipated producing 150,000 trucks annually. Its actual results were a more modest 24,695 registrations in 2023 before growing to 32,893 in 2024. Rivian (NASDAQ: RIVN), which only offers the R1T, R1S, and its electric delivery van, relies on its truck for a substantial chunk of its business, but also saw less-than-thrilling results. Rivian last reported its backlog in late 2022 at 114,000 for the R1T and R1S combined, and not only did its registrations of 11,311 feel lackluster in 2023, they actually declined to 9,876 last year. The problem facing investors and their love of truck profits is twofold. On one end, we have the consumer issue, which is the stigma that electric powertrains are forced to their brink when it comes to performance and towing. Consumers that use their trucks as tools sometimes have difficulties with the concept of EVs performing at the required level. On the other end, the business case also gets more difficult for trucks that require towing power. Towing requires immense power and thus larger batteries which, as the most expensive component of an EV, pushes the cost up significantly. That eats into the precious juicy margins that full-size trucks have historically presented. The head of Rivian's rival company, Lucid, had this to say when discussing the potential of Lucid making an electric truck: "I really think that it's very tough to make an electric pickup truck work today," Lucid CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson said, according to InsideEVs. "Not one that's usable and cost-effective." At the end of the day, it's important for investors to note that trucks are struggling in the EV industry. Full-size trucks have long been the backbone for automakers that thrive in the segment. Full-size trucks haul profits like few other segments can. But without a great deal of battery technology progress or cost reduction, the day of lucrative full-size truck profits could be over for automakers in the near term. A man is being open and honest about his buyer's remorse two years after purchasing a 2023 Ford Explorer. The internet is predictably divided on the subject. 'This is my two-year review of my $70,000 mistake here,' TikTok user @silverbackgreybeard said to start the video, which he posted on Sunday. 'Purchasing this vehicle in 2023 just because I needed a vehicle, and walking in and letting them play with the numbers for me.' The on-screen text reads, 'My $70,000 first new car in my 40s.' Whether you've fallen on financial hard times or simply made poor decisions, bad credit can severely restrict your ability to finance a vehicle. Car buyers in this situation will generally pay higher interest rates over a longer loan period to overcome this challenge. That's how a 2023 Ford Explorer that starts out at approximately $40,000 can quickly turn into a $70,000 car note. To make matters worse, @silverbackgreybeard is already noticing several problems with the SUV in the short time he's owned it. What's Wrong? 'Since the two-year warranty is up, I started doing all the maintenance myself,' he said. 'One thing I noticed right off the bat was that my cabin air filter was filthy. They hadn't changed it in the two years we've had it.' The clip then cuts to him pointing to the trim on the rear bumper. 'Right here, it's already starting to change color. It's making me angry,' he said. And, finally, he noted, 'Several pieces of chipped paint within the first 5,000 miles. And I brought it up, and they told me the paint was not under warranty. They also told me that by Ford specs, they were allowed to have these all over the car.' Commenters Slam the Driver In the comments section of the video, plenty of viewers offered their own opinions on his story. Not all of them are positive. 'Brave of you to put yourself out there on this one, geez,' wrote one person. 'Rough comments. #Karma.' 'Any man paying $70,000 for a Ford Explorer should not be giving ANYONE advice on ANYTHING,' wrote a second person. 'Rock chips are not covered under any manufacturer warranty,' wrote someone else. According to ConsumerAffairs , this user is mostly correct. Warranties are generally intended to help you with mechanical or electrical issues or manufacturing defects. If a paint chip happened as a result of regular road wear, the warranty will likely not cover it. If the paint peels due to a manufacturer's error, the warranty may cover the cost of repair. Of course, it's important to check the warranties on your vehicle to make sure. A factory warranty may cover certain paint defects caused by other repairs. An extended warranty may also cover certain paint-related damages. It's always important to read the fine print before you sign any contracts. Ford's Hot Hatch Is Now Officially History

The end is here for Ford's last hot hatch as the company confirmed to Motor1 that every factory build slot for the Focus ST is spoken for. "All Focus ST factory orders until the end of production have now been reserved," European communications manager Finn Thomasen said. Dealers across the Continent may still have a few unclaimed cars hiding in back lots, but once those are gone-and when Focus production stops in November-the book will officially close on Ford's 45-year hot-hatch chapter. The Focus joins a growing list of Ford passenger cars already in the rear-view mirror. The Fiesta bowed out in 2023, the Mondeo in 2022, and the tiny Ka back in 2020. Without them, Ford's European portfolio is dominated by crossovers such as the Puma and Kuga. The shift has taken a bite out of sales: through April, Ford moved 149,601 vehicles in the EU, U.K., and EFTA markets-down 2.2% year-over-year and less than a third of Volkswagen's haul over the same period. Even Hyundai and Kia have pulled ahead, underscoring how much ground Ford has ceded without its affordable hatchbacks. Yes, the seventh-generation Mustang still flies the performance flag, but it's hardly a volume play. EU taxes punish engines bigger than two liters, dogging the 5.0-liter V-8, while the smaller 2.3-liter EcoBoost was pulled from European order books at the end of 2020. The pony car, therefore, lives on as a niche halo, not a substitute for the daily-drivable, budget-friendly thrills once delivered by ST-badged Fiestas and Focuses. Whether Ford ever revisits the hot-hatch formula likely depends on batteries, not boost pressure. Former Ford of Europe boss-now VW sales chief-Martin Sanders has hinted that the Blue Oval could tap further into Volkswagen's MEB electric platform, the foundation for the forthcoming Explorer and Capri EVs. VW has already promised an electric GTI; a battery-fueled Fiesta ST or Focus ST revival isn't unthinkable if the economics line up. For now, though, enthusiasts must look to the used market or pivot to rival brands still flying the internal-combustion hot-hatch flag. The Fiesta Supersport of 1980 lit the fuse; the Escort RS, Fiesta XR2, and decades of ST variants kept the fire roaring. With the Focus ST's curtain call, the combustion-powered Ford hot hatch becomes history. What replaces it, if anything, will almost certainly hum rather than howl.
