20-Year-Old Woman Injured In Assault Linked to ‘Bumping Men' Trend
Last Updated:
A woman based in London revealed via a TikTok video she had been targeted by a Japanese incel who bumped into her intentionally.
A 20-year-old woman was left with cuts and bruises after being body slammed to the ground by a 'huge" man in London. Ayla Mellek claims the assault was part of a disturbing trend known in Japan as 'butsukari otoko", or 'bumping men."
Mellek was with a friend on Sunday, May 4, when a tall man ran at her full speed and deliberately knocked her down. Despite her attempt to move aside, the man charged straight into her. The impact, she said, 'knocked the air out of [her] lungs" and left her with bruises, cuts, and whiplash.
'After he collided with me, I heard a grunt of satisfaction come from him," Mellek told Metro.
Mellek later posted about the attack in a TikTok video, identifying the incident as part of the misogynistic Japanese trend where men deliberately bump into women to assert power. The behaviour has reportedly gained traction among online incel communities.
'Bear in mind, he is huge and around 6 ft 4 tall. As he came towards me, I turned my body to make a gap for him to run through, but instead he ran at me at full speed and completely bodied me. It felt like he was trying to knock me into the canal, but the way my body was turned it meant I hit the ground instead," she said.
Initially assuming the impact was accidental, she didn't report it. But moments later, a couple approached her and revealed the same man had shoved an older man into the canal.
'They saw I was crying and heard what had happened and came and told me he had actually pushed someone into the water. That's when I knew it wasn't an accident," she said.
In Japan, a man identified as Daisuke Nagata was previously arrested for similar attacks. During interrogation, Nagata confessed to targeting women, admitting he had done so 'dozens of times." 'When I got off a train once, my arm happened to hit a woman's chest and it felt good," he said. 'So I thought about how to do the same without being accused. I've done this dozens of times," as per Metro.
Ayla Mellek's attacker has not yet been caught, police said. A day after the attack, she reported the incident to the police.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: 'Police are investigating an assault that took place on Sunday, 4 May at 12:30 hrs. It is alleged a man pushed a 20-year-old woman as she walked along the canal in Mile End, Bethnal Green. She attended a police station the following day to report the incident. No arrests have been made. An investigation into the circumstances is ongoing."

UK Couple Steals Back Their Own Car From Thieves As Police Were Too Busy
Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed. A couple in the UK recovered their stolen car after police were unable to respond. Their Jaguar E-Pace was stolen from their home in Brook Green, west London. The vehicle had a ghost immobiliser and AirTag locator, aiding in its recovery. A couple in the United Kingdom turned detective and stole back their own car as the police were too busy and failed to act. The Times reported. The couple, Mia Forbes Pirie and Mark Simpson discovered that their Jaguar E-Pace had been stolen earlier this month from their home in Brook Green, west London. The vehicle was installed with a ghost immobiliser fitted, which is a type of immobiliser that uses a unique code to prevent thieves from starting the car. The car also had an AirTag locator. The couple tracked the car to Chiswick, but when they informed the police, they said they were too busy to probe. The police reportedly told them that they were unsure when they would be able to investigate when they spoke to a 999 operator. The car was first reported as missing on June 4, as the AirTag indicated the vehicle was parked outside their home at around 3:20 am (local time). In the next update, the car was in Chiswick at 10.30 am (local time). The couple rushed to that place even in the absence of the police. The car was found on a quiet back street. Its interior and carpets were ripped apart by the thieves as it looked they were trying to access its wiring. "Police seem to have no interest": Pirie In a LinkedIn post, Pirie said that "it was kind of fun stealing back our own car." "But it does make me wonder whether we should have had to do that. And not whether it's normal, but whether it's right that the police seem to have no interest in investigating what is likely to have been a reasonably sophisticated operation involving a flat bed truck... if there are no consequences, what is the incentive for people not to do more of this?" she added. The Metropolitan Police reportedly responded after the couple rescued their car and said it would be in touch, with a forensic team set to arrive this week. Speaking to The Times, Pirie said: "Since we've found it, lots of people have touched the car and the police say that they're going to look underneath the carpets and at the fuse box to see if there are prints there." She further said that "it wouldn't have cost very much for them to tell us not to touch anything. That's the one criticism I have". "The police are under-resourced and it's a shame. But if there aren't any consequences to people stealing cars or a lot of the other crimes where there aren't any consequences, then I don't really see what the deterrent is to stop people from doing it more," she said.

Why Most-Followed TikToker Khaby Lame Was Detained By US Immigration
Washington: Khaby Lame, the world's most-followed social media star on TikTok, is making waves for all the wrong reasons. The TikToker with 162 million followers was reportedly detained by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Nevada last Friday for overstaying his visa, but was released the same day after being allowed a "voluntary departure". "US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained Seringe Khabane Lame, 25, a citizen of Italy, June 6, at the Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas, Nevada, for immigration violations," the ICE said in a statement. The agency said that Lame entered the United States on April 30 and "overstayed the terms of his visa," following which he was detained but was released the same day. The Italian national, who is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, "has since departed the US." Lame had not immediately posted publicly about the incident as of Tuesday morning. However, Barron Trump's close aide, social media influencer Bo Loudon, posted about the development on X, claiming that Lame had been arrested in Las Vegas and was being held at the Henderson Detention Centre. Calling Lame an "illegal alien," Loudon alleged that he was the one who alerted authorities about Lame's visa status. "I discovered he was illegal, who overstayed an invalid VISA, evaded taxes, and I personally took action to have him deported," he wrote in his post. He further claimed that he collaborated with "the patriots at President Trump's DHS to make this happen". Since taking power in January, US President Donald Trump has delivered on campaign promises to tighten immigration controls and carry out a mass deportation drive -- aspects of which have been challenged in US courts. Who Is Khaby Lame? Born in Senegal, Lame is an Italian citizen who holds the top spot on the wildly popular TikTok social media app, with 162.2 million followers. He gained recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic with his silent videos mocking the convoluted tutorials and tips that abound on the internet. He punctuates his videos with a trademark gesture -- palms turned towards the sky, accompanied by a knowing smile and wide eyes -- as he offers his own simple remedies. The idea for his content came to him while wandering around the housing project where his family lived in Chivasso, near Turin, after losing his factory mechanic's job in March 2020. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Khabane Lame (@khaby00) His posts took off -- helping him gross an estimated $16.5 million through marketing deals with companies in the period between June 2022 and September 2023, according to Forbes. He was also featured in Forbes' 30 Under 30 and Fortune's 40 Under 40.
