Lord's to host final of 2026 Women's T20 World Cup
Lord's will host the final of the Women's T20 World Cup on Sunday 5 July next year, organisers have announced.The 12-team tournament will be held across England with Headingley, Old Trafford, Edgbaston, The Oval, the Hampshire Bowl and Bristol's County Ground also hosting matches.It will begin on Friday, 12 June with the full schedule to be announced in due course, and will be the second time England has hosted the tournament.The right to host the tournament was awarded to both England and Wales but Cardiff has not been chosen as a venue.The women's 50-over World Cup was held in England in 2017 with the hosts famously winning a dramatic final at Lord's."The sell-out Women's Cricket World Cup final at Lord's in 2017 remains a landmark in the rise of the women's game, and I cannot think of a more fitting stage for the final," said International Cricket Council chair Jay Shah.England and Wales Cricket Board chief executive Richard Gould said: "It is of course extra special to announce that the final will be taking place at Lord's. "It is one of the finest venues in world cricket and every cricketer dreams of being part of occasions like a World Cup final at Lord's."We want this competition to be part of a long-term movement, and not just a single moment in time. "This World Cup will grow a new generation of fans who didn't grow up with women's cricket but will never imagine sport without it."
The past six women's T20 World Cups have been contested by 10 teams, the most recent won by New Zealand last autumn, but this edition has been expanded.England have already qualified as hosts while Australia, India, New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are already assured of their places. The final four spots will be secured at the qualifying tournament later this year.

'We're just the two old codgers that want to play darts still. But I think we can upset a lot of them. "If we turn up, everyone will be in trouble.' England's star duo Luke Littler and Luke Humphries are heavy favourites, but Wright said: 'They have not just been talking about the two Lukes, they've been talking about the Wales team as well. Gezzy [Price] and Jonny [Clayton], they are brilliant. When they have won it in the past, they have played exceptional. 'The Ireland team as well, Josh [Rock] and Daryl [Gurney], the two youngsters, they are fearless. So, it will be dangerous. Obviously, there are a lot of teams that can come out the group stages and do a lot of damage.' Anderson doesn't know how many more he'll play and said: 'We have 110 years between us on that stage! 'We could still be in the top 16 of the rankings for the next couple of years, so we will just have to see how Peter goes and how my body holds up. "It's an honour. Even when I was in the BDO playing for Scotland it was great. 'Like I say now we feel like a pair of grandads now with the youngsters coming through. If we can click, we can give anyone a game of darts so fingers crossed.' 'I'm enjoying the ProTour and I am enjoying the Europeans that I am doing. So, if I was to be doing that on a Wednesday or Thursday they can be written off. I couldn't do that. "I'm more happy to play ProTour and the Europeans that I can get to quite easily. That's me in my comfort zone.'

The home pair are gunning for the World Cup of Darts hot favourites in Saturday's mammoth last 16 clash in their own country. Luke Humphries and Luke Littler go into the tournament having been recognised in the King's Birthday Honours for their contribution to the sport of darts. However, with Littler having previously had issues with whistling German crowds and vowing earlier this year never to return to Germany in a social-media outburst, the Frankfurt fans are ready to crank up the heat. Pietreczko said: 'I think it was a very funny game against both Lukes, because Luke Littler says never come back to Germany.' Schindler added: 'I think the fans are going to play a major role in that. If we are going to play against bigger nations, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland or Netherlands or whoever, there are so many good names in it right now. "I think this probably is the best World Cup to be in and we are very happy about the support we are getting from the fans.' Humphries and Littler are flying going into it with Cool Hand saying: 'I'm extremely honoured and delighted to be receiving an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours for services to darts. "To be recognised by the King for what I have achieved, and also for my contribution to playing in and promoting the sport that I love, is something that I never thought possible, but I'm very grateful that it has become a reality. 'I have enjoyed the highest of highs in darts in becoming World No.1 and winning the biggest tournaments that the game has to offer, but to be awarded the MBE will rank alongside any of those achievements. "I have to give a massive thanks to my fiance Kayley, and my family, particularly my mum and dad, who have been a constant source of support over the years and helped make me the person that I am today. 'To say that I'm looking forward to visiting Buckingham Palace is an understatement. To receive the MBE there with my family with me is something that I'll cherish for the rest of my life. "I'll continue to be a good ambassador for darts and help pave the way for future generations to be involved and succeed in a sport that has given so much to me.' Littler added: 'This is an amazing and unexpected honour but one which I am very grateful for. "To receive a recognition like this is something I had never thought would be possible, and it is a proud moment. "It's unbelievable what I've done for my sport, I'm happy, my family is happy and I can't wait to receive it. 'Congratulations to Luke Humphries on receiving an MBE too. "He's a fantastic ambassador for darts and although he's a rival, I can't wait to partner him in the World Cup this weekend.'
