Wang Leehom's close call on stage leaves fans aghast

WANG Leehom (pic) nearly fell through a trapdoor on stage and left concertgoers gasping after a mishap with a lift, reported China Press.
The 48-year-old American-Taiwanese singer, who was performing in Hangzhou on May 2, descended onto the stage supported by wires during the start of the song Heaven and Earth Dragon.
When the song ended, Wang was supposed to leave the stage by stepping through a trapdoor supported by the lift.
However, the lift platform was lowered nearly a foot just before Wang stepped on it, causing him to lose his balance and nearly fall through the trapdoor.
Fortunately, the singer managed to catch himself.
Many concertgoers criticised the lift operator for their carelessness.
'He could have seriously injured himself if he had fallen through. They should fire the operator,' one fan said.
It was reported that just last year, Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau suffered a similar accident and nearly rolled off the stage during a concert in Shenzhen.
Unaware that a trapdoor had opened unexpectedly during the show, concertgoers watched in horror as Lau nearly tripped and fell through it.
Lau, 62, managed to grab onto the edge and shift his weight back towards the stage.

China Press reported that 27-year-old Huang, who once weighed 163kg, was determined to lose weight and adopted a healthier lifestyle beginning 2018.
The teacher started a diet by keeping track of the calories she consumed every day.
Huang also began taking on weight training and underwent 40 minutes of cardiovascular exercise every day.
Without the use of fat loss drugs, Huang lost an average of 6.5kg every month.
In just a year, she lost 48% of her body weight and currently maintains a weight of just 85kg.
Having shared her journey online, Huang quickly amassed 55,000 followers on social media.
She said that since losing weight, her former students who have graduated fail to recognise her whenever they return to the school for a visit.

Meanwhile, ARMYs online have shared their reaction to the news, mostly expressing shock over the situation. Many criticised the woman's action, hoping she'd receive appropriate punishment for attempted trespassing. Others lamented the extreme situation with BTS' stalkers, or sasaengs, urging HYBE to protect their artists. Some also said that the singer has only returned from the military for a day, but already has to deal with stalkers. This case isn't the only issue surrounding BTS' recent military discharge. After RM (알앰), V (뷔), Jimin (지민) and Jungkook completed their military service, roughly 1,500 ARMYs flocked to the HYBE building in Seoul to celebrate the occasion. Christine Fan competes in singing reality show, gets eliminated in 1st round
Singer Christine Fan has openly expressed her disappointment with her performance of 'The First Dream' (2004) on Chinese reality music competition 'Singer 2025'. The show, which premiered on May 16, features an international line-up of professional singers, including Chen Chusheng from China, Beni from Japan and Mickey Guyton from the US. Three winners will be named at the end of the season. Singer 2025 was formerly known as I Am A Singer , which premiered in 2013 and was renamed in 2017. This is the 10th season of the show, and voting results are determined by in-person audiences as well as Internet users. Fan, better known by her stage name FanFan, was brought in to replace Taiwanese singer Terry Lin, 58, who was eliminated after the fourth episode, which aired on June 6. Trump attends 'Les Miserables' at revamped Kennedy Center
WASHINGTON: Months after orchestrating a conservative takeover of the Kennedy Center's leadership, President Donald Trump arrived there on Wednesday to attend "Les Miserables," his first show at the performing arts facility that has become a symbol of U.S. cultural and political divides. Trump did not attend events at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts during his first term but has taken a keen interest in it during his second. Deriding it on social media for putting on "Drag Shows specifically targeting our youth," he pushed out its former chairman, fired its longtime president and pledged to overhaul an institution he described as being in tremendous disrepair. The fallout has been swift. The musical "Hamilton" canceled plans to appear there, staff left and sales of subscriptions and individual tickets for Kennedy Center shows have dropped, according to two people briefed on the data. Overall year-on-year subscription revenue was down 36% to $2.8 million as of early June for next season, which begins in the autumn, according to one source. Theater subscriptions, normally a major revenue driver for the center, were down 82%. A Kennedy Center official said the comparisons reflected in those subscription sales were not accurate because the center had launched its subscription renewal campaign later in 2025 than 2024. Trump's appearance at the opening night of "Les Miserables", a show about citizens rising up against their government, comes just days after he sent U.S. Marines and the National Guard to quell protests against his administration's immigration raids in Los Angeles. First lady Melania Trump and Vice President JD Vance also were attending. Trump will sit in the presidential box overlooking center stage, but he is not guaranteed a friendly reception in the 2,300-seat theater. When Vance attended a Kennedy Center show with his wife earlier this year, the crowd booed. Supportive donors will be present on Wednesday, but tickets for the musical were available for purchase by the public as well, along with regular subscribers. The night is sold out. Trump's appearance is meant to juice fundraising. Donors who pay $100,000 to $2 million get to attend a reception before the show, receive a photo with the president and be seated in good locations in the theater. The Kennedy Center is turning the event into one on par with its signature shows, including the Kennedy Center Honors, featuring a red carpet for high-profile guests with reporters and photographers in place. A Kennedy Center spokeswoman described the entry as similar to a "Hollywood movie premiere" with board members, lawmakers and Trump administration officials appearing. Under the leadership of Ric Grenell, a close Trump ally and former ambassador to Germany, the Kennedy Center has sought to add more conservative-leaning programming, including a show that Grenell has described as a celebration of the birth of Christ. Meanwhile, while Trump zeroed in on drag shows when he said the Kennedy Center had lost its way, multiple upcoming musicals include characters dressed in drag, such as "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Chicago." Other musicals have pulled out, according to a former Kennedy Center official.
