Pakistan to nominate Trump for Nobel prize

The government of Pakistan said Friday it would nominate President Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize while lauding his contributions to global peace. Last month, the Trump administration intervened in a brief conflict between India and Pakistan after the former struck the latter in what it described as retaliatory strikes, killing dozens. 'At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a ceasefire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond,' the government of Pakistan wrote in a Friday statement on the social media platform X. After Pakistan announced the nomination, Trump shared a grim outlook on his chances of obtaining recognition from an international award for conflict intervention hours after securing a treaty between Rwanda and the Congo. 'No, I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize no matter what I do, including Russia/Ukraine, and Israel/Iran, whatever those outcomes may be, but the people know, and that's all that matters to me!' Trump wrote in a Friday Truth Social post. Former President Obama is the last sitting president to receive a Nobel Peace Prize for international diplomacy in 2009, eight months into his first term. Pakistan now hopes to help Trump receive the same honor. 'President Trump's leadership during the 2025 Pakistan India crisis manifestly showcases the continuation of his legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building,' the government wrote. 'Pakistan remains hopeful that his earnest efforts will continue to contribute towards regional and global stability, particularly in the context of ongoing crises in the Middle East, including the humanitarian tragedy unfolding in Gaza and the deteriorating escalation involving Iran,' they added. The White House did not immediately respond to The Hill's request for comment on the matter In May, missiles from India killed 31 people and injured 57 in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the country's Punjab province, according to the Pakistani military. Amid the turmoil, Trump told foreign partners, 'If I can do anything to help, I will be there,' while Vice President Vance said the conflict was 'none of our business' as threats of war between the two nuclear powers crescendoed. Days later, Trump announced that India and Pakistan agreed to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire with the help of U.S. mediation. Pakistan's government said his efforts were a sign of the leader's commitment to stability and peace. 'This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue,' the government wrote on social media. . Trump to Win a Nobel Peace Prize? Pakistan States Nomination

Pakistan has stated its intention to'formally recommend' U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, on account of his role in helping India and Pakistan reach a cease-fire after conflict between the two long-time rivals resurged earlier this year. Previous Nobel Peace Prize recipients include former TIME100 Women of the Year honoree Malala Yousafzai, and previous TIME Person of the Year recipients Martin Luther King Jr. and former President Barack Obama. 'At a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with both Islamabad and New Delhi, which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation, ultimately securing a cease-fire and averting a broader conflict between the two nuclear states that would have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond,' the Government of Pakistan said in its announcement via social media. 'This intervention stands as a testament to his role as a genuine peacemaker and his commitment to conflict resolution through dialogue.' The Pakistani government went on to say that Trump's 'leadership during the 2025 Pakistan-India crisis manifestly showcases the continuation of his legacy of pragmatic diplomacy and effective peace-building.' He later went on to thank Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for their efforts. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took to social media to express gratitude to Trump at the time, saying: "We thank President Trump for his leadership and proactive role for peace in the region. Pakistan appreciates the United States for facilitating this outcome, which we have accepted in the interest of regional peace and stability.' By contrast, the Indian government did not mention U.S. involvement in the mediation talks. "India and Pakistan was worked out directly between the two countries," a statement read. Pakistan's announcement of its intentions regarding a nomination comes after Trump posted on Truth Social about the Nobel Peace Prize when commenting on his international mediating. Within that social media post, Trump took credit for 'stopping the war' between India and Pakistan. 'I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan. I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between Serbia and Kosovo. I won't get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping peace between Egypt and Ethiopia," Trump claimed. Trump has given himself two weeks to decide whether the U.S. will continue supporting Israel from afar or become an active participant in the conflict with Iran.

Israeli strikes on Iran cap dramatic shift in Mideast strategic balance

JERUSALEM — While the world braces for President Donald Trump's decision on bombing Iran and the tectonic waves that could follow, here in the Middle East, the earthquake has already struck. Israel's go-for-broke attacks on Iran launched just over a week ago — after decades of intense but largely covert conflict between the two powers — have dramatically shifted the strategic balance in a way that will probably prevail whether American bombers enter the fray or not, according to analysts in Israel, across the region and beyond.
